Bendtner sorry for ‘mild case of drink driving’

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has apologised after being busted for what he described as a "mild case of drink driving".

The Dane, who is currently on loan at Juventus, was stopped by police in his home city of Copenhagen after reportedly being caught driving on the wrong side of the road.

The 25-year-old took to Twitter to say sorry for his actions.

"Dear friends, I was booked for a mild case of drink driving last night. It was a quiet night but I am very very sorry to all my friends and fans," he wrote.

"It is not OK to drink and drive. I take full responsibility."

Bendtner has struggled since moving to Italy and has yet to score in nine appearances for Juventus. He is expected to return to Arsenal at the end of the season.

It is not the first time Bendtner has hit the headlines for less conventional reasons.

At last year's European Championship, Bendtner was fined £80,000 and banned for one match after he revealed the logo of a betting company on his underpants after scoring a goal for Denmark.

Also last year, Bendtner helped foil a blackmail plot after thieves stole a laptop that contained intimate pictures of him and his girlfriend.

While in 2011 he opened himself up for ridicule by suggesting he deserved his £50,000-a-week salary as a footballer because he had to make sacrifices such as giving up skiing.
