Brazilian footballer out for two weeks with hiccups

The unfortunate Lean-hic!-drãoA Brazilian footballer has finally returned to training after an epic two-week bout of the hiccups.

Defender Leandrao of second-tier side Caldense started hiccupping after a squad dinner before the start of their league campaign.

Players initially joked about the affliction, but it did not subside and the 27-year-old was forced out of pre-season training.

After local doctors could not stop the hiccups, Caldense sent Leandrao to Rio de Janeiro for further treatment.

They finally stopped after 13 days, and medics concluded a respiratory problem was to blame.

Club spokesman Gustavo Mendanha said: "Leandrao trained normally, but had to stop due to the endless hiccups.

"At first it was kind of funny and his team-makes were joking about it. But the hiccups did not stop. It's very unusual!"

Leandrao was held out of a friendly match on Friday, and faces a race to regain full fitness ahead of Caldense's opening game in the Mineiro State Championship on January 29.

Oh the poor dear. If anyone else, who does not have cancer, transplants or things like that, has hiccups they just get on wuth life. Does that mean I can call in sick if I break a fingernail (I do a lot of typing you see) so that would mean I have an unfit finger. In short, grow up you big girl's blouse.

2 weeks of Hiccupping. That's Nothing.
When I had my appendix removed I got an infection in the prostate gland. I suffered a Total Viagra Effect for 9 days solid. It was agony. You may smile, but it was so painfull.
In hospital surrounded by giggling nurses was no joke. The poor old boy in the bed opposite mine was in the last stages of Big C. He laughed for most of his last few days though.

LOL wow, shame about the old chap, atleast you gave him a good laugh though. Got to have a sense of humor about things sometimes, even in the most dire of situations, otherwise you'll go round the bend.

Seriously, my husband took an attack after he had a kidney transplant, and it went on for days. It wasn't in the least bit funny. He couldn't sleep or eat properly. Don't mock what you don;t know about folks!!!

As long as he doesn't have to take a penalty with that condition he should be ok - the ball could go anywyere; though, I expect to see him in the HicCup final.

yeah, it is very funny unless it is you with the hiccups! but i have found that i can cure anyone's hiccups any time, including my own. it isn't rocket science and there is no mystery.

i offer the patient a ten pound note if they can concentrate and give me one big, solid, hefty hiccup. ok, start now, concentrate, look, here's the tenner, do the hiccup. i have never lost the tenner. am i serious? i have to be, otherwise it doesn't work.

i can also do the procedure on myself. i promise myself something unreasonable but which i really want, or really want to do, if i can make myself do one more hiccup. this has only failed the once, when i didn't believe i could carry out the wish. as a result i granted myself the unreasonable wish (yippee) and since then the conscious focus on the hiccup has worked in stopping my own hiccups too.

i can also teach small children to tie shoelaces and blow their noses. there are many dead simple tricks once taught that can be passed on for ever. oh yeah, and i can show anyone how to deliver a leg-spin ball, and a googly, though achieving accuracy is down to hours of practice on their part. OFSTED know nothing about education, ho ho, none of this would constitute good learning, but in my opinion an adult's job is to create a 'club of initiates' that children aspire to join. there is no mystery, the tree of knowledge grows in any soil.

    have fun curing hiccups..... x

There is only one certain cure for hiccups - But it requires something inserted in the butt. The intestine tract will then calm down. It's started 99% of the time from an allergy.

I like the sound of that if its a nice stiff #$%$

@Quantum: Let me make a guess here mate: You are gay bloke and prepared to administer the treatment any time? (Males only please.)
