Del Piero’s voice wakes girl from coma

Alessandro del Piero: Goalscorer, legend, and now miracle workerAlessandro del Piero is already a legend in Italy after scoring the goals which helped his country win the World Cup in 2006.

But now the veteran striker - who still turns out for Juventus at the age of 37 - has become even more famous in his homeland after he apparently brought a 12-year-old girl out of a coma.

Italian schoolgirl Giada Scalise suffered a brain hameorrhage on January 22 while watching her beloved Juve on TV at her home in the southern city of Crotone.

She lapsed into a coma, and after several weeks of making no progress her parents got in touch with the prolific striker to ask for his help.

Del Piero happily obliged by sending a recorded message, which was played repeatedly at Giada's bedside: "Hello Giada, this is Alessandro del Piero. I hope you'll wake up and come back to us as soon as possible to watch many of our games."

Within days Giada began to stir, and she was soon speaking again and even demanding ice cream to help her recuperation. Her dad, Francesco, is convinced that the star's intervention was the key to his daughter regaining consciousness.

I'm sure our great Alex wasn't expecting a miracle but did what was asked of him and where there's faith there's hope, it's a great story. I bet he'll meet the girl before too long . Well done Alex and Forza Juve!

The headline said that "Del Piero's voice wakes girl from coma".....you do not know that. I hate this sort of reporting, I might as well read the Sun.
Well done to him for sending the recording, but shame on Yahoo.....your reporters suck!!!!

It's a cool story but there's no way to twist it to a moan about the state of Britain so I guess there won't be many comments.
    • Paul 3 months ago
lol - I wouldn't bank on that, Astro!
    • Chris 3 months ago
hahah my thoughts exactly, except had this been somewhere up north I would be twisting it rather than writing this!

He's been making a few miracles on the pitch as well. Del Piero is the one who deserved to be the hero of his generation, not the glittery fellows like Beckham. But I guess he's happy to avoid exposure.

      You know beckham donates right?
    • AFC Ajax 3 months ago
Yes I do, and actually I don't dislike the fella. I actually think he's a great professional and interesting character. However I don't like the way his exposure in the media overshadowed more talented players of this generation, the likes of Figo, Rivaldo, Zidane, Nedved and of course Del Piero.

At last a footballer that has other things on his mind, other than how much money he can get for kicking a ball around. It's a BIG thanks from me.

For a moment I had this vision of Del Piero sitting by her bed side, talking to her in person, while she emerged from her coma.

Makes a nice change from Arsenal's footballers trying to walk the ball into the net and putting fans into a coma.

It is well known that if the voice of someone a person admires is in a coma it can bring them out again. Who cares it is a good story and I am glad he tred to help and suceeded. i hope that he can find a little time to visit the girl or arrange for her to go to a match and meet the team . Footballers are not completely bad
