On Thursday, we told you how Emile Heskey's stock was so high in Australia that he was to get special red button service for the Newcastle Jets next game against the Melbourne Victory.
We wrote the piece in somewhat mocking tones — curious as to why anyone would want to focus on Heskey for 90 minutes given his terrible goalscoring record at both domestic and international level?
Well fair play to Emile for shoving that criticism back in our faces as he scored BOTH Newcastle's goals in a 2-1 victory.
The first goal was a poacher's finish as he darted in to drill a low cross into the corner of the net in the 54th minute.
However, his best was still to come as just two minutes later he scored with a close-range bicycle kick to double his team's advantage.
Okay, so it wasn't a world class bicycle kick to rival say Wayne Rooney's in the Manchester derby or Pele's with a broken arm in Escape to Victory but credit where credit is due — it showed he is on the top of his game.
Heskey has been nothing short of a sensation since moving Down Under and has now bagged four goals in his last three matches at the club.
Fans were so excited by his arrival that the Jets sold out of his shirt before he even arrived, and while he might be a figure of fun in England, he is becoming a cult hero in Australia for all the right reason.
Those who watched the Jets win over Melbourne via Heskey Cam certainly enjoyed some decent viewing.
