Thomas Levet will miss The Open at Royal St George's after breaking
his shin while jumping into a lake to celebrate victory at the French Open.
42-year-old suffered the fracture when he leapt into the water just minutes after
winning at Le Golf National near Paris on Sunday.
As the video below shows, it was clear
almost immediately that Levet was hurt in his celebration, with the player struggling to stand up and then hobbling
gingerly through the shallow water - all the while trying to keep on grinning for
Ironically, Levet's manager Patrice Bartez - who jumped in alongside his man - was completely unhurt.
Ryder Cup star - who lost a play-off for The Open at Muirfield in 2002 - officially withdrew from The Open on Wednesday after doctors told him that he would not be able to play for four to six weeks.
Levet had originally been hoping that a course of intensive treatment might give him hope of taking part.
