Long jumper’s ‘Superman’ moment goes wrong

Long jumpers spend their lives trying to defy gravity - but one budding American athlete put a little too much faith in his ability to do so at a recent event.

He looked the part, did a great job of getting the crowd behind him, got off to a decent-looking run-up... and then this happened:

Perhaps the pressure got to the as-yet-unidentified athlete: with the US Olympic trials looming in June, he must have been aware that he needed a 'Superman' moment to make the team.

It's just a shame that he took that idea a smidgin too literally.
