    NFL star celebrates prematurely

An NFL star was left red-faced when he started celebrating a touchdown more than 35 yards from the goal-line only to then be tackled before reaching the end zone.

Leon Washington of the Seattle Seahawks caught a punt deep in his own half against the Carolina Panthers and then embarked on a fantastic run into the Carolina half.

He broke completely free and was so certain he was going to score he put his arm in the air with the only player even near him being the Panthers punter Jason Baker.

Kickers in American football are rarely asked to perform tackles but Baker did manage to catch-up with the lightning quick Washington just enough to clip him short of the end zone.

Luckily for the Seahawks it did not cost them the match as they won 31-14, and Washington was even able to joke about the incident afterwards.

"Next time I'm just gonna pull a Forrest Gump and run clean through the stadium," he said.

Watch the video of the incident below.
