During the Houston Texans' win over the Denver Broncos in the NFL on Sunday, Houston quarterback Matt Schaub was on the wrong end of a devastating and illegal hit by Broncos defender Joe Mays. How devastating? He lost part of his earlobe on the play.
Schaub lay on the ground for a while before being taken off the field. Not only was it an illegal hit, it was the second penalty in a row on the Broncos.
As Schaub walked off the field, he looked with disdain at the Denver players. Want to see why? Look at what the hit did to Schaub's ear.
Yeah, he's missing a good chunk of his earlobe. Though Schaub did return to the game, he didn't complete a pass in the next two offensive series. It was an ugly hit with an ugly result.
Mays should fully expect to hear from the league's office on that hit this week and a fine or a ban is the likely result.
Elsewhere in the NFL on Sunday, there was highly emotional match in Baltimore where wide receiver Torrey Smith put in a man of the match performance to help the Baltimore Ravens beat the New England Patriots 31-30 less than 24 hours after his younger brother died.
