Rutherford leapt 8.31m on the same 'Super Saturday' night that saw Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis also collect gold medals on a triumphant occasion for Team GB, catapulting him to national fame.
However, the vastly increased media and promotional demands since placed on the 25-year-old have made his personal life suffer, with the Daily Star Sunday reporting that he has broken up with his long-term girlfriend Liz Rose as a result.
Now the most triumphant summer of his life has given way to personal anguish.
"This last week has been so bad," Rutherford told the Daily Star Sunday. "I won't go into it but it's been a really tough one.
"It's been such a bad day. A bad, bad day. I have had the best summer of my life but this week has been the worst."
Rutherford recently spoke to the newspaper about the strain success was putting on his relationship.
"I have hardly seen my girlfriend since I won," he said. "That's been the hardest thing. We've gone from seeing each other daily to me being home about seven days since I won almost two months ago.
"It's hard. That's one thing that no one could warn you about or prepare you for."
Rutherford has toured TV studios since his moment of glory and was recently pictured with his arm around X-Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos.
