    Player endures free-kick nightmare

Football can be cruel game at times as Chelmsford City's Sam Corcoran found out in a Conference South clash at Hayes & Yeading United earlier this week.

Trailing 2-0 with 20 minutes to go, Chelmsford were awarded a free-kick in an attacking position as they looked to get back into the game.

Corcoran went to take it but lost his footing in comical fashion just before hitting the ball allowing Hayes to launch an instant counter-attack.

There was still much to do when the ball was played up to Kudus Oyenuga but the forward showed great skill before playing the ball across with aplomb to strike partner Yassin Moutaouakil who produced a smart finish.

Corcoran's gaffe summed up a Chelmsford performance that was described as 'absolutely diabolical' by the team's manager Glenn Pennyfather.

"It's the manner of the way we lost which leaves a bitter taste in the mouth - it was absolutely diabolical. I have to apologise to the supporters who came and watched that performance," he told Chelmsford's official website.

"It was completely out of character as we lacked desire, commitment and work rate."

So it sounds like Corcoran was far from the only one to blame for the 3-0 defeat — in fact he was actually awarded man-of-the-match by the Chelmsford website.
