Teen Basketball giant dominates school rivals

It's not quite fair to say that high school junior Mamadou Ndiaye stands out. It's more like he stands above.

At 7'5", Ndiaye is easily the tallest high school basketball player in California, and we can pretty much safely say, the rest of the United States as well.

In fact, the 17-year-old is so tall that the Guinness World Records recently tried to track down an official measurement to determine if he is the tallest high school basketball player in the world.

None of those strict delineations are particularly important, of course, because one thing is certain: Ndiaye is so tall that he's pretty much impossible to defend … or get around when he's playing defense.

Ndiaye stars for the Huntington Beach Brethren Christian School in California and is taller than any player on a current NBA roster, a place where he could find himself in a short three years if he continues developing.

"Right now his game is basically catch, turn, drop-step, dunk," Brethren Christian basketball coach Jon Bahnsen told The Daily.

"But this kid's going to play professionally someday. The minute Mamadou enrolled I became a much better basketball coach."

Watch Ndiaye in action in the video above.

Reading Brit's comment on basketball! LOL, it's like asking a Yank his opinions about County Cricket! LOL

In fairness, an American asked about County Cricket would probably tell you lots about how it rubs its legs together to make music for a mate...

A lot of ignorant people on here. For those of you who know a thing or two about street ball, Rucker is up there as one of the best street ball venues, if not the best, in the world. It isn't playing at your local Y or your local outdoor court. Durant caught fire here and those shots are from 30 plus feet. And the defense is only non-existent on the last shot. Plus, by my count, he had 42 points at the start of that clip (and finished with 66 for the game). Number 21 on the opposing team is Jeremy Hazell (who just finished an excellent career at Seton Hall) and the white guy on Durant's team is Randy Gill, one of the better street ballers around today. I'm sure there are other elite college players and street ballers out there as well, but I can't make out anyone else from this short clip. But, go ahead and say that Durant is just lighting up a bunch of chumps who can't play ball if it makes you feel better. Or better yet, don't comment on this page if you have never stepped up and played on a real street ball court or if you are just going to make some racist comment.58735143924

All american sports are elitist. you have to be tall to play basketball, big to play football, and an #$%$ to play baseball.

How exactly is this fun for any of the other kids - on EITHER team?? And to the people clapping and going whoo whhooo throughout the video clip. If you're truley that impressed by that display, Get a life. That "kid" is almost 2 feet taller than all the others kids. As others have likely already posted, being tall is not a skill.

      Well said fili!!!
In every junior/youth sport there are those who stand out from the crowd, and ultimately dominate the games, you should see some junior rugby, when there are kids who weigh 29kg's, trying to tackle kids weighing more than 110kg's... It aint pretty!!!

hmm Being tall isnt a talent. He does have a lot to learn..damn that height gives him an advantage, any other sport he would fail due to his agility and speed, then again in USA being bulky and tall is required for most of their sports, American Football, even Baseball and Basketball

The number 34 jersey was once Hakeem Olajuwon's (of Houston Rockets 1982-'89).And I hope he keeps his "head down" just like "Hakeem the Dream".

I'm 6ft 2 and feel small compared to this giant of men! Unfortunately he may suffer cardiovascular problems later in life due to his size as taller people are more prone to experience long-term health issues.

Increased workload on the heart is an effect produced by his height as a greater systolic pressure would be required to maintain his blood pressure. It's not normal to stand 7ft 5 but due to conditions such as giantism and acromegaly these physical changes can occur.

Robert Pershing Wadlow is tallest recorded human in history 8ft 11.1inch but saddly he died at the age of 22 because of the condition hypertrophy which also affected all his organs causing failure in the long-term.
