KP stars in Notts Landing

Thu Jun 05 04:51AM

6.12pm: England 273-7 (90 overs) - Broad drives and edges O'Brien to the wicket and that's all she wrote for the day. A pretty even day's cricket with KP the star turn.

The competition winner is century.is100 who was just one away. Please e-mail your postal address to cow.corner@yahoo.co.uk

We will be back at 10.30am, see you then.

BALL-BY-BALL SCORECARD | MATCH GALLERY

6pm: England 263-7 (87 overs) - WICKET! And another as O'Brien gets one to jag back and Ambrose, who has collected so many runs via the cut shot, departs attempting in it again with an under edge taken by Hopkins. James Anderson has come to the wicket - Ryan Sidebottom has got a nightwatchman!!

valaida54 - you should become a journalist with an informed critique like that.

5.45pm: England 255-6 (84 overs) - WICKET! The new pill does the trick and Pietersen departs for a splendid 115. He nibbles away from his body and offers Hopkins a routine catch behind the stumps and that's a third wicket for O'Brien. Stuart Broad strides to the crease and is off the mark with a shot his old man would be proud of, a lovely push down the ground before Ambrose cuts Mills to the fence once more. First rule of cricket - don't bowl short outsude off to a bloke who is vertically challenged.

5.30pm: England 244-5 (81 overs) - Ambrose cuts in the air through the gully, bisecting Jamie How and McCullum with some aplomb. It's time for a new cherry and it's been tossed to O'Brien.

5.15pm: England 241-5 (77 overs) - Pietersen cuts Vettori in front of square on two occasions in front of the watching Prince Philip. Perfect chance to crowbar our favourite HRH quote which he made to a driving instructor in Scotland: "How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test?"

5pm: England 232-5 (74 overs) - Ker-sploosh!! Pietersen pulls Martin wide of the flying McCullum at mid-on before attempting to shoulder arms to Oram only to get an bottom edge wide of Hopkins behind the stumps. He brings up his century with a beautiful drive past mid-off and that's the 12th Test ton for the 'Pietermaritzburg Bradman'. It has come off 194 balls in 246 minutes. SHABBASH. SHABBASH

4.45pm: England 214-5 (71 overs) - Ambrose cuts Vettori for three and that's his second Test 50 off 102 balls. To recap Tim Ambrose and Curtly Ambrose are not related.  Pietersen edges Mills past third slip for a boundary and the crowd are getting a little more vocal - a few too many pints of Loud Mouth Soup for some in the cheap seats.

4.30pm: England 196-5 (67 overs) - Pietersen thumps Mills down the ground for his eighth four and this could prove to be a useful score for England - the average first innings score in county cricket is just 213 here this season and no team have reached 300 in 10 completed innings.

4.15pm: England 188-5 (63 overs) - Ambrose drives O'Brien straight down the ground and then plays a flashing cut past second slip to bring up the 100 partnership.

the_kop2003 - we update every 15 minutes except during pernod breaks and milking. We will upgrade to every 10 minutes when we start getting more feedback than Jim White did yesterday for his Ronaldo exclusive.

3.40pm: England 180-5 (59 overs) - Like Mrs Rik Waller, Ambrose likes width. Martin serves him what he likes, a wide one outside off and the gloveman does the rest albeit collecting his four down at third man. Pietersen also whips him on two occasions through the leg-side and this partnership is a tidy 94.

That's tea. Cowers is off to celebrate his second feedback century with a quick pint of pernod with Derek Pringle.

3.20pm: England 161-5 (54 overs) - McCullum has just made a one handed, full length diving save at mid-on. It was like Dino Zoff in his pomp, not a bloke who is meant to have a bad back. Martin has been "very" average today and he is dispatched sweetly through extra over by Pietersen - his first boundary in front of square on the offside. Mr Paltrow has gone for seven boundaries in eight overs.

3.05pm: England 147-5 (50 overs) - That's more like the old Pietersen as he sweeps Vettori expansively to the pickets to bring up his 11th Test half century off 106 balls. Ambrose then gets in on the act by cutting the NZ skipper to the fence.

In response to the roaring debate in the feedback section, Cowers can give the official answer. There is only one Pot Noodle flavour - Chicken and Mushroom. I learned that at Bovine University.

2.50pm: England 131-5 (45 overs) - Married life does strange things to some men and Pietersen seems to be one of them. Again he is strangely muted as he limps to 42 off 92 balls - not the buccaneering free spirit who entered Test cricket but importantly he's still there. Tight bowling from Oram and Vettori has stymied the run rate.

2.35pm:  England 124-5 (42 overs) - Another four past backward point for Pietersen off O'Brien. For the record Bell and Collingwood are averaging 15 and 10 in the series respectively which ain't too clever.

2.20pm:  England 114-5 (38 overs) - A leg-side flick to the fence from KP and then Tim Ambrose gets off the mark with a cut to the boundary off O'Brien. The Warwickshire keeper also finds the gap at mid-wicket for four. It's a runs safari!

2.05pm:  England 97-5 (34 overs) - WICKET! Paul Collingwood has come and gone faster than you say 'seeing it like a marble'. His four-ball vigil ends as he plays away from his body at a Mills outswinger to offer Taylor a catch. Not sure what England had for lunch, looks like diazepam. Time for Pietersen to step up to the plate and he guides O'Brien down to third man for his first boundary.

edbirmingham - 123 all out is looking a little optimistic.

1.50pm:  England 85-4 (31 overs) - WICKETS! Mills' sixth ball after lunch is a wide half volley and Strauss chases it. The edge is snared by Ross Taylor at first slip. Then six balls later Ian Bell plays all around a straight one from O'Brien and is lbw for a duck. That is great start for the Kiwis after the pies.

arviemail - nice to see you are with us. Did you know that Sonya Thomas once ate 11 pounds of Downtown Atlantic Cheesecake in 9 minutes. Mike Gatting will attempt to break that record on the outfield after play.

1.30pm: During the lunch break we have had the semi-final draw for the Friends Provident Trophy semi-finals which was made by David Collier (we would have preferred Norman Collier) and this is what came out of the bag. Durham v Kent or Somerset. Essex v Yorkshire

1pm:  England 84-2 (29 overs) - Strauss has played very nicely this morning and England's form horse cuts with alacrity for his fourth boundary. Martin returns to the attack and he dishes up a leg-stump half volley which is dispatched past mid-on by the left-hander.

swads43 - you are correct, cheese chasing is the sport of kings as is competitive eating. We will be back after lunch to tell you who owns the world record for consuming Downtown Atlantic Cheesecake.

12.45pm:  England 70-2 (24 overs) - Vettori into the attack and what turn there is, is slow turn. Cowers has just done a Michael Douglas in Falling Down impression after his laptop crashed. CMJ was forceed to calm me down with a sloe gin.

12.30pm:  England 65-2 (20 overs) - Jacob Oram into the attack, he won't need a ladder to put the Christmas decorations up. The runs have dried up a little but KP deflects the ball off his derriere to collect four leg-byes.

30 minutes until lunch and Cowers is looking forward to a bag of twiglets. We went to a Korean restaurant last night and saw Jodie Marsh - it was dog eat dog.

12.15pm:  England 57-2 (17 overs) - The Duke has been changed, that's the ball not Prince Philip, as it's gone out of shape. Then some dodgy running as Kevin Pietersen calls Strauss through for a quick single. If Daniel Vettori had hit the stumps from cover, then the Middlesex opener would have been on his way. His full length dive, as if he was surfing the crowd at a Sabbath gig, would have been all for nowt.

Awilycoyote - stop shouting!!

Noon:  England 45-2 (13 overs) - WICKET!! Good night (Seymour) Nurse. Vaughan has played some lovely shots but he's late on the drive and Iain O'Brien gets one to dart back and peg off-stump halfway back. The England skipper played a Larry Blackmon innings (that's a Cameo, non-funk fans).

11.45am:  England 36-1 (10 overs) - ****This update will be in the style of Mark Nicholas**** LAVISH from Vaughan as he takes three boundaries off a Martin over. Two dreamy cover drives are followed by a four down the ground. MESMERIC from Strauss as he plays two delicious off drives off Mills.

11.30am:  England 14-1 (7 overs) - WICKET!! Big inside edge from Cook as he plays an attempted forward defensive and the ball rattles into leg stump. It's a beaut of an over from Mills with Michael Vaughan's first ball an 80mph leg break.

To win a Yahoo! notepad and a Yahoo! pen to write things down on your Yahoo! notepad just tell me how many runs will be scored today. No later than Noon.

11.15am:  England 12-0 (4 overs) - Some early swing for the opening pair of Chris Martin and Kyle Mills but Andrew Strauss gets a leading edge past point for a boundary and Alastair Cook guides four down to third man. COMPETITION SOON!!

11am: Apologies for the slightly tardy start this morning we've had some "teckno fear" with all machinery ganging up on me. But the players are out on the field and we're ready to rumble as Jimmy Lennon Jr would say.

10.45am: Brendon McCullum has a dodgy back so is playing as a specialist batsman and Gareth Hopkins is making his debut behind the timbers. James Marshall makes way after scoring in binary numbers in this series.

10.30am: A very good morning from Nottingham, the murder capital of the UK! Cow Corner has managed to dodge the bullets long enough to report that New Zealand have won the toss and elected to bowl. It's a decent sort of day in the East Midlands and all being well we should have a full day's play.

  1. Good morning Cowers, wonderful to have you back on Live!

I much prefer the Live cow corners it's like so post-millenium interactivity at the ultimate climaxatron.

  19. If the weather is good 290 today. I see kop2003 is spraying the ball over the place. I once saw Sobers score 180 at Trent Bridge. One of his square cuts was so perfectly timed that though it came down off his bat (not an uppish thick edge) it only bounced once on the way to the boundary.
