England thrashed in Trinidad

Sun Mar 15 05:39PM

21:10 WEST INDIES WIN BY SIX WICKETS! Pollard cracks a boundary to give West Indies a comfortable victory. England batted poorly and their bowling wasn't much better. Strauss's men will need to show serious improvement when the one-day series gets going on Friday. Thanks for joining me, see you for the all action from Guyana on Friday.

21:05 West Indies 119-4 (17.5 overs) WICKET! Bravo gives Khan a second wicket by chipping a simple catch to KP.

21:00 West Indies 113-3 (17 overs) West Indies need nine from 18 balls as England grow increasingly frustrated. This time it's Anderson who loses his temper, staring down Shah and he throws wildly to the bowler's end. England are not a happy bunch.

20:55 West Indies 105-3 (15.1 overs) WICKET! Sarwan goes for a wild slog and Khan gets him with a straight one. In comes Bravo. England need another couple very quickly. West Indies need 17 to win from 29 balls.

20:50 West Indies 105-2 (15 overs) Sarwan completes his half-century and West Indies are cruising. He cracks Broad away to the cover boundary and the England bowler vents his anger at Bopara, who missed the ball at short extra-cover. Bopara says nothing. Broad then gets called wide for a bouncer.

20:40 West Indies 83-2 (12 overs) DROPPED CATCH! Sarwan fails to connect with a full delivery from Mascarenhas and sends a straighforward catch towards Khan at long-off...but he lets it slip through his fingers and Sarwan escapes. That wicket could have put England back in the match, but West Indies survive.

20:30 West Indies 70-2 (10 overs) Sarwan relieves the tension by coming down the track to Batty and battering a six over long-on. Mascarenhas bowls another tight over to keep things interesting, but West Indies are overwhelming favourites to take this opening Twenty20 at this stage. England need a wicket.

20:25 West Indies 67-2 (8 overs) England are starting to apply some pressure. Mascarenhas bowls five straight dot balls and concedes just two runs from his opening over.

20:20 West Indies 65-2 (7 overs) Batty brings his off-spin into the attack for England and starts well, conceding just four runs from his opening over. England were 55-1 at this stage in their innings.

20:10 West Indies 45-2 (5 overs) WICKET! Sarwan goes for the jugular, smiting Anderson back over his head for a straight six that flies deep into the stands. Anderson reacts well, however, and tucks up Chanderpaul with the last ball of his over. The left-hander is rushed into a shot and sends a simple catch into the hands of Collingwood.

20:00 West Indies 29-1 (3 overs) Khan enters the attack for England and is prompty dispatched for two boundaries in succession by Sarwan. Chanderpaul then flicks one very fine to the leg side for another one. Excellent over for West Indies.

19:55 West Indies 16-1 (2 overs) WICKET! Fletcher has a swipe at Broad's second ball and sends a comfortable catch into the grateful hands of Mascarenhas at deep midwicket. England desperately needed an early breakthrough and they have one. Chanderpaul arrives at the crease and proceeds to smash Broad away for four.

19:45 West Indies 10-0 (1 over) Sarwan and Fletcher open up for West Indies. Jimmy Anderson starts with a wide and bowls a second with his fourth ball. A third follows. Fletcher then flicks one off his legs for the first boundary of the West Indies innings.

19:30 England 121 ALL OUT! Broad on strike as Edwards begins the final over of England's innings. It lasts just one ball, as Broad picks out Benn at cover and England are all out for 121. West Indies have bowled and fielded superbly, while England have been found seriously wanting. It's going to take something very special for Strauss and his men to win from here. Your thoughts are welcome...

19:25 - England 121-9 (19 overs) WICKETS! Ramnaresh Sarwan throws down Batty with a sensational piece of fielding at cover. Amjad Khan is the next man in, but he can only muster two runs before Benn bowls him with the last ball of a superb spell.

19:17 - England 115-7 (17 overs) WICKET! Strauss is run out!! Wonderful fielding from Chanderpaul, who picks up and throws in a single movement. Sammy removes the bails with lightning speed and the third umpire lights up the red light. Oh dear!

19:05 - England 101-6 (15 overs) WICKET! Woeful stuff from England. Strauss and Mascarenhas make a royal mess of a quick single and Mascarenhas is run out comfortably for a duck. Strauss looks embarrassed and well he might. Gareth Batty is the new man in and he pushes a single from his first ball.

19:00 - England 96-5 (13 overs) WICKET! Collingwood succombs to temptation and skies one off Darren Sammy. Lendl Simmons takes the steepling catch in deep midwicket and England are in all sorts of trouble. Dimitri Mascarenhas is the new batsmen in and he'll need to push it with Strauss unlikely to go crazy at the other end.

18:48 - England 82-4 (10.5 overs) WICKET! Shah goes for the big heave-ho against Benn, but succeeds only in picking out Pollard on the long-on fence. England are really struggling now, as captain Strauss comes to the crease.

18:44 - England 73-3 (10 overs) WICKET! Terrible decision by the umpire!!Suliemann Benn sends down a non-threatening off-break and KP is hit on the pads trying to push one away on the leg side. The ball was clearly clearly missing leg stump, but the umpire's finger goes up and KP is on his way. England's run rate has slowed considerably after a rapid start and that dismissal won't help matters. Enter Paul Collingwood, who ends a tight Bravo over with a wonderful clip through long-on for four.

18:29 - England 55-2 (7.1 overs) WICKET! Davies shuffles across his stumps and Bravo takes advantage to knock down his castle. The debutant goes for 27, which came from 21 deliveries and has given England a decent platform. Owais Shah is the new man at the crease.

18:29 - England 47-1 (6 overs) Dwayne Bravo enters the attack and Davies cracks a boundary and then swishes one away for single to third man. KP then pulls a short one away for a single and Davies completes a good over with a chip to midwicket for four. He mistimed it, but it reach the fence nonetheless.

18:16 - England 28-1 (4 overs)  WICKET! Baker sends Bopara packing with a straight one that uproots middle stump. Enter Kevin 'KP' Pietersen, who gets himself off the mark with a single to midwicket.

18:12 - England 25-0 (3 overs) Another eight off the over and so far so good for the opening partnership of Bopara and Davies.

18:08 - England 18-0 (2 overs) Davies cuts away for another four before tickling a single down to third man. He's looking good so far. It's been a solid start for England

18:05 - England 9-0 (1 over) England opener Ravi Bopara takes to the crease to face the pace of Fidel Edwards. Lucky guy. And he tucks him away on the leg side for a first ball four! Steve Davies, making his debut in place of Matt Prior, is at the other end and he gets underway with a crisp push into the off-side that runs away for four. That'll do him the world of good. Nine off the first over.

17:45 - Strauss gets off to a losing start - with the toss - and the Windies put the tourists into bat.

17:30 - Andrew Strauss returns to international limited overs cricket for the first time since the 2007 World Cup as he leads England out in Trinidad for their first Twenty20 clash of the Caribbean tour.
