  1. 0km - The top ten on GC are Di Luca, Lovkvist, Rogers, Leipheimer, Menchov, Basso, Sastre, Horner, Pelizzotti and Arroyo.

  2. 0km - Ivan Basso was fourth at five seconds with Levi Leipheimer and Chris Horner next at nine seconds. Carlos Sastre was eighth 19 seconds behind with Arroyo and Rogers completing the top ten. Gilberto Simoni and Franco Pelizzotti were 47 seconds back with Armstrong almost three minutes behind.

  3. 0km - Denis Menchov has the power over the final 400m to hold off Danilo di Luca and take the victory. Thomas Lovkvist is third but will lose the pink to Di Luca.

  4. 1km - The seven leaders go under the Flamme Rouge together and Michael Rogers is close to regaining contact.

  5. 2km - Ivan Basso, Denis Menchov, Levi Leipheimer, Danilo di Luca, Carlos Sastre, Chris Horner and Thomas Lovkvist are all playing cat and mouse at the front - or do they not have the legs?

  6. 3km - The pink jersey is among the leading eight as the gradient hits 11% for the final three kilometers.

  7. 4km - Sylvester Szmyd peels off and Ivan Basso has taken control at the front. Denis Menchov, Levi Leipheimer, Danilo di Luca, Carlos Sastre, Chris Horner and David Arroyo are the only men who can follow.

  8. 5km - Marzio Bruseghin also in trouble and Armstrong is 25 seconds back.

  9. 6km - Lance Armstrong in trouble at the back as is Damiano Cunego.

  10. 7km - Just three Liquigas jerseys now on the front of the group and Stefano Garzelli is in trouble at the back.

  11. 8km - The leaders are back together again after that shortlived attack and Wiggins is amongst them.

  12. 9km - Dries Devenyns of Quick Step has followed him and they lead the stage as our escapees have been swallowed up.

  13. 10km - With 10km to go the climb ramps up to 7.1% and Giampaolo Cheula of Barloworld has attacked.

  14. 15km - Between 18km and 11km, the climb rises just 2.1% and would explain why the six leaders are still ahead. The gap is under a minute.

  15. 18km - David Garcia Da Pena (Xacobeo Galicia) has abandoned. The fourth man to drop out of the race.

  16. 20km - Gavazzi dropped out of the lead group even before the start of this climb as a Liquigas led peloton closes in.

  17. 25km - The leaders hit the Alpe di Siusi which gets off to a steep start: the first 7.5km have an average gradient of 7.2%.

  18. 30km - The advantage for the leaders is now under three minutes.

  19. 35km - 45.7 kmh was the speed in the second hour.

  20. 40km - Voeckler took the bonus seconds for crossing first at the intermediate sprint at Bolzano.

  21. 45km - 4:30 is the advantage of the leaders but they will be swallowed up by the big men on the climb, surely!

  22. 50km - The finish today is at Alpe di Suisi, also known as Seiser Alm, which is the largest high altitude Alpine meadow in Europe. Located in Italy's Bolzano-Bozen (South Tyrol) region in the Dolomites mountain range, it is a major tourist attraction, known for skiing and hiking.

  23. 55km - Breaking News: German rider Andreas Kloeden underwent an illegal blood transfusion during the 2006 Tour de France, an independent commission from the University of Freiburg has ruled. Full Story

  24. 60km - Brutt is back in the bunch, a lot of wasted effort.

  25. 65km - Bradley Wiggins, Charly Wegelius and Chris Froome finished in the top 50 yesterday but the other six Brits were in the groupeto nearly 20 minutes down. Aussie sprinter Allan Davis expects a big bus today, he twittered: "Morning all, another mountains stage today groupeto on the cards for me, should make great viewing for the gc contenders, watch this one"

  26. 70km - All the big names finished in the top 30 yesterday except Lance Armstrong who lost 15 seconds. He said on Twitter earlier: "Very tough summit finish today. Hope to stay within 2 mins of the leaders." Stage 4 result

  27. 75km - Ireland's Philip Deignan had a fall in the late stages of yesterday's stage. He explained: "The Acqua & Sapone guy clipped my front wheel and I went down, there was nothing I could do. I had to stop at the beginning of the climb, my derailleur was broken and then I made a big effort to get back and I just had too much pain. Hopefully I can recover."

  28. 80km - 42.6km were covered in the opening hour. The time gap is currently 3:50 from our seven leaders to the peloton with Brutt still sandwiched between.

  29. 85km - Former F1 driver Ukyo Katayama is enjoying today's stage from the Team Barloworld car. "Being a cycling fan I was eager to have the chance to visit a professional team during such an important event. It was something completely new to me: F1 and cycling share only one thing, it's all about being the fastest on track," he said.

  31. 95km - There is an average gradient of 6.1% on the final climb but the last 9km are really tough with the final sections an unforgiving 8.1%. Will we see a new man in pink? General Classification

  32. 100km - The current time gap is 2:25 from our seven leaders to the bunch.

  33. 105km - Russian Pavel Brutt of Katusha is now looking to bridge the gap to the leaders.

  34. 110km - Eros Capecchi (Fuji-Servetto), Francesco Gavazzi (Lamore), Daniele Pietropolli (LPR), Jose Ochoa Carlos and Jose Rodolfo Serpa Perez (both Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni) were the other men in the intial break. They have been joined by Giovanni Visconti (IPD).

  35. 115km - They have reached the summit 30 seconds ahead of the main group.

  36. 120km - A gentle 8.2km climb up the Passo Rolle to begin the stage and a group of six riders including Thomas Voeckler have attacked.

  37. 125km - It is day five of the Giro and a second day in the Dolomites. San Martino di Castrozza to Alpe di Siusi, only 125km but 25km of that is the final climb from Prato all'Isarco to the summit finish.
