16:46 - Thanks for following our coverage of stage 4 of the Tour de France, and join us tomorrow for more coverage of stage 5.
16:33 - Cancellara keeps the yellow jersey! He has the same time as Armstrong, but it's Cancellara who keeps yellow!!! Incredible stuff!
16:29 - Armstrong brings Astana throught he final few hundred metres...can Arsmtrong snatch the yellow jersey??? It's 40 seconds exactly!!! It'll come down to hundredths of seconds!!
16:25 - Astana go under the 4km barrier. The strength of their team is really showing through today.
16:23 - Cavendish brings Columbia through the final few bends...they stop the clock 41" off Garmin's pace - good enough for 4th position.
16:22 -
Astana fastest again at the third checkpoint - 17 seconds ahead of Garmin and 41 ahead of Saxo Bank! Armstrong is heading for the yellow jersey!!! Incredible stuff!
16:20 - Columbia now come under the 3-kilometre barrier, though their tempo is noticeably lower than that of Garmin. There will be no repeat of their success in the Giro.
16:19 -
Hendrik Redant (Silence-Lotto director): "We have already lost a lot of time on Katusha, and I haven't even heard the others yet, so we may have to change tactics now."
16:17 - Armstrong out of the saddle as he pulls his Astana team up a climb.
16:16 -
Cancellara is pulling Saxo Bank through the final few hundred metres!!! He wants this yellow jersey... and they cross the line! They are second fastest behind Garmin, 22 seconds down on their American rivals!
16:15 - Columbia go through the 3rd time check in 4th position, 40 seconds off Garmin's pace. Cavendish is still pulling hard on the front.
16:14 -
Stuart O'Grady is off the back for Saxo Bank. No much distance left for that to make much of a difference.
16:13 - Saxo Bank go under the 3km barrier, can Cancellara come up with a big pull to keep his yellow jersey?
16:10 - Astana are looking very, very smooth. The fact they still have seven men together will help them, and the likes of Klöden, Contador, Armstrong and Leipheimer are all immense time-triallists.
16:09 -
Garmin stop the clock 40 seconds quicker than Liquigas - a quite superb demonstration of power by Zabriskie, Wiggins, Millar, Hesjedal and Vande Velde!!!
16:07 -
Dmitry Muravyev has been dropped by Astana. They lost Gregory Rast earlier, so are down to seven men. Nevertheless, they hit the intermediate time-check a massive 24 seconds ahead of Garmin!!!! Lance Armstrong is heading towards the yellow jersey at this rate!
16:05 - The crosswinds are really making themselves felt as Saxo Bank are being blown all over the road! Almost a big crash on the back, narrowly avoided!
16:04 -
Cofidis come through the finish and finish 2'01" down on Liquigas.
16:04 - The latter teams have possibly benefitted from information passed to them about the nature of the course, particularly the bend that took Menchov and Fernandez and others down.
16:02 - Columbia approach the second check-point... and go through 5th quickest - 26 seconds off Garmin's pace.
16:01 -
Garmin are through 31 seconds faster than Liquigas at the third intermediate check!!! There may be only five of them, but they are absolutely flying!!
15:59 - Ryder Hesjedal is just hanging on the back for Garmin! Millar has just slipped in ahead of him! They need to make sure he's not dropped, as they're down to five riders only!
15:58 - Astana are second quickest behind Caisse d'Epargne at the first time-check!! They clock the same time as Garmin.
15:56 -
Euskaltel stop the clock 1'12" down on Liquigas - the quickest team so far.
15:55 -
Saxo Bank now approach the first time-check...26'05" is the time - that's 14 seconds down on Garmin.
15:54 - As expected, Garmin-Slipstream power through the first time-check quickest in 25'50". That's 11 seconds quicker than Liquigas.
15:44 - Just five men finish for Milram, they roll in ninth-fastest.
15:43 - Just Astana to go now. They roll off the start ramp, and all of the teams are either out on the course or finished now!! Haimar Zubeldia leads them out, Sergio Paulinho bringing them up the rear.
15:41 -
Garmin have lost yet another two riders!!! Julian Dean has gone! Well, as long as the remaining five have enough power to finish (which they may well have) they might be ok, but they're cutting it fine! I think Martin Maaskant is the other rider to have been dropped, though we didn't see it on the screen.
15:37 -
Tyler Farrar has fallen off the back of the Slipstream train. He needs to keep working away to ensure he doesn't miss the time limit. Danny Pate is suffering at the back too, so Garmin are about to lose their second man.
15:37 - Bert Grabsch is at the back in his world time-trial champion's jersey. A flatter parcours would suit him, but the likes of Rogers and Monfort should excel.
15:36 - Columbia on the start now. Can they repeat their TTT victory from the Giro? They upstaged Garmin there, but now have far stronger teams from the likes of Astana and Saxo Bank to contend with, together, of course, with Garmin again.
15:36 -
Cervelo arrive at the finish...they're not going to challenge Katusha, but finish 3rd - just 15 seconds down. Not a bad run from them.
15:34 - Liquigas still looking very, very smooth. All nine riders still together - and their impressive times are reflecting that.
15:32 -
No complaints about the course from Bouygues' Thomas Voeckler - one of their four riders to crash on a right-hand bend. "It's a difficult course, but you just have to adapt to it," he said. What a refreshing attitude from the Frenchman.
15:31 - David Zabriskie taking a long turn at the front on a straight section for the Garmin team. They are desperate for victory here today.
15:30 -
Saxo Bank take the start now! The team of yellow jersey-wearer Fabian Cancellara! He's wearing yellow now, but will he be wearing yellow at the end of this time-trial?
15:28 -
Liquigas are flying! They go through the midway time-check 8 seconds ahead of Caisse d'Epargne!
15:25 -
A quick reminder of the top five thus far at the finish: 1 Katusha; 2 Caisse d'Epargne @ 6"; 3 Ag2r @ 25"; 4 Rabobank @ 57"; 5 Silence-Lotto @ 1'12".
15:23 - Liquigas going well at the moment. They have all 9 men still together and are rolling along nicely.
15:23 - Garmin-Slipstream power away! This is the first of the real big favourites to go! On a striahgt, flat course not many can match their power, though how will they cope with the tight corners and narrow roads of the first half?
15:22 - Cadel Evans powers towards the line, but leaves the rest of his team-mates behind!!! Only one man is in his wheel, and the rest are a fair few bike-lengths back. They stop the clock 1'12" down on Katusha.
15:20 - The Cervélo team power through the mdiway check-point 22 seconds off Caisse d'Epargne's pace. Not bad from Sastre's men.
15:18 - Cofidis' Bingen Fernandez overshoots a corner on a left-hand bend!!! Christophe Kern has dropped back to pace him back up to the rest of the team.
15:17 - Peter Wrolich, a victim of a fall earlier, has been dropped by his Milram team.
15:16 -
Eurosport expert Sean Kelly on the odds of Lance Arsmtrong capturing the yellow jersey tonight: "Astana have a strong team and should do an excellent time-trial, but Fabian Cancellara's Saxo Bank team are also good. If I was putting money on it, I would back Cancellara to hold onto the yellow hersey."
15:14 -
Caisse d'Epargne's José Ivan Gutierrez - a former Spanish time-trial champion - was particularly critical of the technical nature of this course. "It's not normal," he said. "But thankfully, we did a good time-trial."
15:11 - Milram are already 1'02" down after just 10 kilometres. Disappointing for them, as they have a number of good riders on the flats.
15:10 - Euskaltel roll away off the start ramp.
15:10 -
The former German champion Fabian Wegmann has fallen off the back of Milram's train. He's possibly paying for his efforts on the front of the lead group yesterday.
15:08 -
FdJ finish 5th fastest, 1'22" back. That will suit them just fine.
15:08 - Quick Step go through 6th at the midway time-check, 56 seconds down. They have lost one man, so are now down to seven. Don't forget - Jurgen Van de Walle had already dropped out with a fractured collar bone.
15:04 - It appears Peter Wrolich and Niki Terpstra have hit the deck! We haven't seen it on our screens, but their Lycra all-in-one suits are ripped.
15:02 - A poor start from Silence-Lotto. They go throught he midway checkpoint in seventh position, 1'05" off the pace.
15:00 - My apologies to Johan van Summeren - he had a technical problem, and was not dropped as simply as I suggested. To be fair, it would have been a surprise if a rider as big and strong as him was dropped on a TTT.
14:58 - Linus Gerdemann leads his Milram team away. Milram had big hopes for him after he came back so well from injury last season and won the Deutschland Tour. He was one of the winners yesterday, having got himself into the Columbia-driven lead group, and jumped up to 7th on the GC.
14:55 -
Silence-Lotto are down to six men now as Johan van Summeren has been dropped. The big Belgian clearly is lacking the form he showed at Paris-Roubaix earlier this year.
14:54 -
Ag2r - La Mondiale come down the finish straight with all 9 men still together...and they come through third fastest, 26 seconds slower than Katusha.
14:52 -
Staf Schierlinkx has fallen off the back of the Silence-Lotto train. They're already lost Jurgen van den Broeck, so more bad news for Cadel Evans on a stage he will have been pretty apprehensive about.
14:51 - Quick Step are looking a little untidy around one or two corners. Their new boy Sylvain Chavanel took it a little close to the edge.
14:50 -
Katusha's time is looking better and better. Bouygues - who admittedly had an absolute nightmare out there - cross the lnie 3'18" down on their Russian counterparts.
14:49 - Agritubel are a big 1'55" off the pace at the first time check already.
14:46 - Cervelo now power away off the start ramp! How will Carlos Sastre's men do? They may not be among the favourites, so the likes of Hayden Roulston and Volodymir Gustov will need to do some serious pulling.
14:40 -
Lampre are approaching the finishÂ…they're all out of the saddle sprinting awayÂ…and they stop the clock 2'01" off the pace of Katusha!
14:37 -
Cadel Evans' Silence-Lotto team are underway. We have talked a lot about the strength of this team, and this is certainly one of the stages where they will be vulnerable - and Jurgen Van den Broeck has hit the deck!!!! He simply rode up the rear wheel of the man in front of him! They don't have the power of the likes of Saxo Bank or Astana, so MUST avoid these crashes.
14:34 - Talking of Astana - here's Lance's very interesting thoughts on team leadership - and he has been far more candid than anyone else so far. Armstrong asserts his status
14:33 -
Rabobank now cross the finish line a massive 57 seconds down on Katusha! That may not seem a lot, but the likes of Saxo Bank and Astana are going to be a lot quicker than Katusha. Denis Menchov's Tour hopes are disappearing, and we haven't so much as crossed a hump-backed bridge.
14:31 - Ag2r are looking good. They're approaching the second intermediate check with all nine men still together...and go through third quickest, 18 seconds down on Caisse d'Epargne.
14:30 -
Changing the topic slightly, Swiss authorities the next to be on Jan Ullrich's case, confirming that he will face charges for his links to the Puerto scandal. Will this eternal saga never end? Full story here
14:26 -
Rabobank and Denis Menchov's disaster Tour is continuing. The big Russian lost big time on the first time-trial, and they were through the 3rd checkpoint a massive 52 seconds off the pace.
14:25 -
Katusha hit the home straight and are down to six menÂ…but nevertheless they stop the clock in 47'52" - that's 6 seconds quicker than Caisse d'Epargne.
14:23 - Quite ridiculously, they all went down independently of eachother! Simple diagnosis - the entire team took the corner too quickly. The others are going to have to wait. It's far too big a risk to press ahead with just five riders.
14:22 -
Four riders crash in the Bouygues train!!! A real disaster for them!!! William Bonnet is down, as is Pierre Rolland! Chaos! It looks like Arashiro is down too!
14:19 - Sandy Casar leads his Française des Jeux team away.
14:18 -
Caisse d'Epargne are through and cross the finish line in 47'58"! They only lost one man along the way.
14:17 -
Katusha go through the third time-check quickest in 38'41"!
14:16 - Lefevre is back on now. His bike change was pretty rapid.
14:14 - Laurent Lefevre of Bouygues has a rear wheel puncture! Disaster for him. It's nigh on impossible to get back onto the train unless the team lowers the tempo for a kilometre or so.
14:11 - Meanwhile Ag2r have rolled off the start ramp a few minutes ago, and Skil-Shimano are just getting their run started now.
14:11 -
Rabobank go through the second time check a massive 51 seconds off Caisse D'Epargne's pace!
14:10 -
A few of these riders who fall off the back early will need to fight for their lives to stay in. Anyone outside of 25% of the WINNING time is eliminated. Napolitano must be nervous.
14:10 -
Katusha have lost another rider! Styn Vandenbergh has fallen off the back! They are now down to seven.

Saxo Bank, Astana, Columbia and Garmin are all expected to be very strong today, but who wuill be pulling on the yellow jersey after today's stage?Don't forget to vote in our Click here for to vote in our poll
14:03 -
Katusha (minus Napolitano) are approaching the time check at 19.5km...and they're 10 seconds down on Caisse d'Epargne.

14:00 -
Danilo Naplitano has been dropped from the Katusha train on a stretch of road that has a VERY uneven surface. It's not quite Paris-Roubaix, but there will we one or two sore bottoms around this evening.
13:58 - BBox Bouygues Telecom are off now - Tommy Voeckler leads them off the ramp.
13:56 - Caisse d'Epargne go through the first intermediate check in 26'09". We have a benchmark.
13:53 -
World road race champion Alessandro Ballan falls at the same corner as Menchov!! Lampre suffer a blow early on too!
13:52 - Saxo Bank will be one team looking to make up for their bad day yesterday. Here's Gustav Erik Larsson explaining what went wrong. Larsson on "the split"
13:49 - Well, the two moments of drama we have already had indicate that one or two teams could lose some serious time today. Don't forget, there are no silly rules about certain placings guaranteeing you certain amounts of time. The time your fifth man finishes is the time everyone gets. Simple as that.
13:48 -
Arnaud Coyot is off the back for Caisse d'Epargne!! They're struggling already! José Ivan Gutierrez has dropped back to pace him back to the rest!
13:46 -
Menchov falls on a left-hand turn!!!! Disaster for Rabobank! We know he's far from the best bike-handler in the world, but he really is on a bad run. The rest of his team had to wait for him, and will have lost 20 seconds easily.
13:45 - Rabobank are underway too, their orange and blue lycra suits glowing in the afternoon sun. The riders will be thankful for the sun today - rain would have been a nightmare for all concerned on this technical course.
13:43 - Could there be more glory for Cav today? Obviously he's not going to be winning any sprints, but his COlumbia team start as one of the favourites for this TTT. He was full of praise for his team-mates efforts yesterday. Click the link below to hear his thoughts on the all-important break, and the sprint. Cav on Columbia
13:40 - The difficulty of today's course if highlighted bny the fact that Stef Clement came off during the warm up as well as French legend Bernard Hinault, who was scouting out the course for himself.
13:39 - Katusha will be looking to Karpets, Botcharov and Ivanov to do a lot of work on the front, though a place in the top half would be a good result for them today.
13:37 - Katusha roll off the bright yellow start ramp to begin their TT.
13:35 - This is a pretty difficult, technical course for a team time-trial, especially over the first half of the course. Close riding and organisation will be key. After that, it's a largely downhill course on wider, straighter roads, when the likes of Columbia, Garmin and Astana will look to show their power.
13:30 - Caisse d'Epargne are underway!
13:00 - Start Times: 13:30 Caisse d'Epargne; 13:37 Katusha; 13:44 Rabobank; 13:51 Lampre; 13:58 Bouygues; 14:05 AG2R; 14:12 Skil-Shimano; 14:19 Francaise des Jeux; 14:26 Agritubel; 14:33 Silence-Lotto; 14:40 Quick Step; 14:47 Cervelo; 14:54 Milram; 15:01 Liquigas; 15:08 Euskaltel; 15:15 Cofidis; 15:22 Garmin; 15:29 Saxo Bank; 15:36 Columbia-HTC; 15:43 Astana
12:30 - American team Garmin-Slipstream, with specialists like Bradley Wiggins, David Millar and David Zabriskie, or Cancellara's Saxo Bank, should also be among the serious contenders.
12:00 - Their outstanding performance in the third stage to La Grande Motte made Team Columbia another outfit to watch, especially as they won similar stages on the Giro and Tour de Romandie. A victory could put young German Tony Martin, currently 33 seconds behind Cancellara, in the spotlight.
11:30 - Armstrong finished only 40 seconds behind leader Fabian Cancellara and given the overall performance of his Astana team in the opening individual time trial in Monaco, with four of their riders finishing in the top 10, they will be strong favourites on a winding course.
11:00 -
For the first time since his last Tour de France triumph in 2005, Lance Armstrong is perfectly placed to reclaim the leader's yellow jersey in today's 38km team time trial in Montpellier. "Never say never," the seven-times winner said following Monday's third stage in which he climbed to third place overall after joining a decisive move led by the Columbia team.
Comment 92 - 111 of 111
What going on with the live comments??? - I still only see comments from stage 4!
It's a perfect race to me and the competition is healthy! Lance Armstrong is back with a bang: go for it!!
You can get stage resluts at Velo News.
Brilliant - 4 days in and the race is over for 3-4 of the favorites. Nice planning! Sastre, Menchov, Evans, F Schleck pack your bags now. The geniuses at the Tour have handed the race to Astana, just as they always handed it to US Postal / Discovery. What a joke. Riders like Evans and Sastre now have no chance, just as back in the days the likes of Iban Mayo and Joseba Beloki had to fight back from losing massive ground in the TTT.
All of Lance's victories in the Tour which included a TTT should have an asterisk as the best rider doesn't necessarily win - when there's a TTT, the team with the most money usually wins. Like Astana. Good riders from teams like Silence/Lotto and Euskaltel and Quick Step should just give up any thoughts of the GC when there's a TTT - it only helps 1 or 2 teams, which coincidentally often feature Armstrong.
evans and menchov are dead out of this tour. the shlecks also. i think the race now is between armstrong and contador. evans and menchov lost a lot today, while the andi and frank lost too much in the first stage. don't forget that there is another ITT and only 3 mountain top finishes (the last in stage 20), so definetly is between contador and armstrong. armstrong was perfect today. if cancellara hadn't lost tday, he would be in contetion for the GC also.
So I saw the margin from Astana to Saxo was 40.11. Anyone know the hundredths from the ITT? It must have been rounded down to 40 from something greater than 40.11.
Take that Bernard Hinault. I am glad Lance gave him the cold shoulder on the podium.
Livestrong Armstrong...God Speed be with you :)
Anybody have a link to the individual times recorded for the TTT? Wondering who (if any) finished outside the time limit.
Kazakstan greatest country in the world
All other countries run by little girls!
lance is superman !
Great job Astana! Turned out perfect. No further division because of the yellow jersey. No pressure to defend the jersey (poor Cancellara and Columbia). Close enough to take it at another point in the tour and 5 riders in the top 10. Why ask for more?
what site can i watch the racing?
Cadal Evans have delay of 2:59 minute on Armstrong, I told you he wont make the top 3.
I'm afraid the coverage is very poor! Everything is out of sync. What does it take to get a smooth speech flow that matches the graphics? Obviously too much if this effort is anything to go by.
coming up from a deadly decease operated in his last race to the knee and after 4 years from his last race at this age lance armstrong is back with style !!
agreed, the updates here are rubbish, how far behind were garmin at check point 2? did they get closer at check 3 ? these are things we need to know and this useless "real time" doesnt even tell us who is pacing the best. hopeless. maybe its a ploy to get us to subscribe to eurosport player
It's race great to me.
Unless Lance falls, the people of the glorious nation shall have a goat roast in Astana tonight.
thanks to liam l and andrew
