16:40 - Thanks for following our coverage of today's stage on eurosport.yahoo.com. Log on tomorrow for more live comments of stage 8.
16:35 - So, a quick look at the general classification after today's stage: 1 Nocentini (Ag2r); 2 Contador (Astana) @ 6"; 3 Armstrong @ 8"; 4 Leipheimer @ 39"; 5 Wiggins @ 46"; 6 Klöden @ 54".
16:27 - Cancellara is still struggling his way up the climb. He has lost his yellow jersey.
16:27 - Astarloza and Luis Leon Sanchez cross the finish line now.
16:26 - The Evans/Armstrong/Wiggins group finishes 22 seconds behind Contador!
16:25 - It is Bradley Wiggins behind Contador!!!! Incredible stuff!!!!!
16:24 - 0km - It looks like the fight for the yellow jersey is between Contador and Nocentini!!!
16:24 - 0km - It's Evans who's doing the chasing, Schleck's in his wheel!! Incredibly, there's a Garmin rider in his wheel that looks like Wiggins!
16:24 - 0km - One kilometre to go for Alberto Contador!!! Is he riding into the yellow jersey as we speak?!?
16:23 - 0km - Contador is beginning to put time into all his rivals!!!
16:22 - 0km - Brice Feillu wins the first mountain stage of the Tour de France - Kern is second!! A fantastic win for Agritubel!!
16:22 - 0.4km - Contador has around 10 seconds on his rivals!
16:20 - 0.8km - Andy Schleck is after him, Armstrong is trying to shut down the gap too!
16:20 - 0.8km - Huge attack from Contador!!!! He goes sprinting up the road!!!
16:20 - 1km - Feillu goes under the 1km banner now!
16:19 - 1km - Klöden hits the front now, Armstrong by his side. Jurgen Van den Broeck attacks!
16:19 - 1.4km - Schleck and Klöden are up there too!
16:18 - 1.6km - Cadel Evans attacks!!!! It's a huge dig from the Australian, and Contador and Armstrong is right on his shoulder!!!
16:17 - 2km - Just two kilometres to go and Feillu is looking good to take a stage win - he has 32 seconds on the others in the breakaway!!
16:15 - 2.4km - Bradley Wiggins is still near the front of the peloton! That shows the pace isn't quite as relentless as might have been the case. Cancellara is simply having a bad day.
16:14 - 3km - Feillu is going very well. As mentioned before, he won the climbers jersey at the Tour of Asturias, so he does have climbing pedigree, even though he is very young.
16:13 - 3.2km - It's looking very good for the breakaway now. They are 5 minutes ahead of the peloton.
16:13 - 3km - Gustav Erik Larsson has dropped back to help out Cancellara.
16:11 -
4km - Here are the time gaps: The rest of the breakaway are 29 seconds back from Feillu, and the peloton are at 5'08". Cancellara is at 5'34"
16:10 - 4.4km - Feillu continues his lone bid for victory out front, and seems to be giong pretty well! He has opened up a significant gap on the others in the breakaway!
16:08 - 5km - Cancellara dropped from the peloton! We will have a new man in yellow this evening! Zubeldia is doing stirling work on the front for Astana.
16:07 - 5km - Pineau has been dropped too! That's something of a surprise.
16:06 - Brice Feillu puts in a big dig and moves away from the berakaway!
16:05 -
Klöden is looking ominously strong four riders back in the Astana train. Could he end up a surprise winner of this race?
16:05 - 6km - Gutierrez has been dropped from the breakaway. Riblon is at the front now, and he moves aside for Nocentini do do some work.
16:04 - 6km - Cancellara is visibly struggling!! Astana are really making people hurt!
16:03 - 6.5km - Riders are dropping out of the peloton in their dozens, as Kern goes again!
16:01 - 7km - Riblon of Ag2r attacks!!! Martinez tries to follow. Zubeldia ups the tempo at the head of the peloton. Grimaces are appearing all over the place now.
16:01 - 7.3km - Riders being dropped left, right and centre now. Arrieta is gone, as is Haussler, Paulinho, Lequattre, Hesjedal, Maaskant and many others. Even Bruseghin is dropped!
15:59 - 8km - Christophe Kern ups the tempo in the breakaway now, and Brice Feillu bridges the gap with the others in his wheel. They're all riding for themselves now.
15:57 - 9km - The gap is down to 6'05" now. Still in the balance for the breakaway. Whether they stay away may come down to whether or not any of the favourites attacks early on. If so, they may be doomed. If not, and if the favourites keep their powder dry, then they should be okay.
15:56 - 9.5km - Saxo Bank are bringing Andy Schleck towards the front. It's the sort of long, steady climb that could well suit him today.
15:55 - 10km - The peloton is getting smaller and smaller as the road kicks up. Juan Antonio Flecha has now been dropped.
15:55 - Our own expert Stephen Roche believes Cadel Evans needs to attack here if he is to ride himself back into contention. Click here for his views on the stage.
15:50 - 12km - 7'04" the latest gap. It will be touch and go as to whether our leaders will be caught. Egoi Martinez would be my pick of the breakaway riders if they stay away.
15:47 - 13km - Meanwhile, Leipheimer has dropped back to the team car again for some adjustments on his saddle after that fall.
15:45 -
14km - Lance has the hint of a smile on his face as he wheels his way past the camera. He always used to use the first mountain stage of the Tour to show who's boss, what can he do today?
15:40 - 16km - The gap is starting to come down quite dramatically now. 8'00" is the latest split.
15:35 - 19km - The road is already beginning to climb, though the real ascent starts from Ordino, and is 10.6km long at 7.1%.
15:30 - 22km - Française des Jeux, Astana and Liquigas all at the front now, though Astana have dropped the pace after Leipheimer's fall.
15:30 - 22km - Kuschynski is dropped from the breakaway! The Liquigas man has fizzled, and the gap is down to 8'28".
15:30 - 22km - A fall at the back of the peloton, and Leipheimer is down! As is Cavendish! As is Boonen! They're all back ont heir bikes, and Leipheimer is being paced back to the peloton by Rast and Muravyev.
15:25 - 24km - Jérôme Pineau and gives his breakaway companions a tongue-lashing, ordering them to keep taking turns on the front. Are the others tired or are they saving themselves?
15:20 - 26km - The tempo in the peloton is gradually quickening, and the gap has come down to 10'00" for the first time.
15:17 - 29km - All uphill from now on. Jose Ivan Gutierrez has just dropped back to his team car for a quick chat. He's another time-trial specialist who tends to go backwards when the climbs get steep, though the long, more gradual nature of today's final climb could favour a power climber - someone like him, rather than a typical waif-like mountain goat.
15:15 - 30km - To view the results of yesterday's poll on the most exciting stage, click here
15:10 -
32km - Today's stage could well see the yellow jersey changing hands - but from Cancellara to whom? Or will the Saxo Bank man manage to defend his jersey on terrain that is far from his favourite? Vote in our poll here
15:05 - 36km - Our leaders have just crossed the border and are now on Andorran soil.
15:03 - 38km - The peloton have arrived at La Seu d'Urgell, and the helicopter is giving us some glorious shots of the Cathédrale Santa Maria.
15:01 - 41km - Juan Antonio Flecha has four bidons down the back of his jersey, another three in his pockets, two in the holders on his bike, and is still going....NO! The TV cameras have moved away from him! We'll never know how many he was going to pick up. He was still going strong.
15:00 - 42km - Sébastien Joly (FdJ) has abandoned.
14:55 - 43km - Another bit of trivia for you. Arcalis, at 2240m, is only the third highest mountain-top finish of a Tour de France stage. Val-Thorens (2275m) eclipses it by a mere 35 metres, while soaring above them all is the Col du Granon, which was featured back in 1986. Eduardo Chozas was the winner that day.
14:51 - 46km - It looks like Michael Rogers has swapped to the role of team domestique. He has filled his back pockets with bidons, and is making his way back up to the peloton.
14:50 - 47km - The Garmin team has finally moved to the front of the peloton to take over from Astana, though the Kazakh outfit still have Muravyev and Popo near the front. Cervelo are tucked in just behind.
14:45 -
49km - Time to turn our attention back to the trivia question of the day, which was to name the five riders in the peloton today who were also present in the 1997 Tour, which also featured today's climb to Andorra. The five musketeers were: Inigo Cuesta, George Hincapie, Christophe Moreau, Stuart O'Grady and Matteo Tosatto. Congratulations, and a virtual round of applause to: Emil, Kamil Wiśniewski, Peter Roose and Razvan!
14:40 - 52km - Armstrong is riding next to Klöden in the pack, munching on an energy bar.
14:35 -
54km - Emmanuel Hubert (Agritubel sporting director): "Brice (Feillu) is more of a climber. He was best climber in the Tour of Asturias. This qualities could stand him in good stead today. It will be difficult with the strong riders also in the breakaway. It's his Tour debut, and he is capable of finishing the Tour. He's a mature guy, and has arrived fresh for the challenge. As for Christophe Moreau, he has to show some panache after abandoning last year. He is determined to go out with his head held high."
14:32 - 57km - Muravyev, Rast and Popovych are still doing the work on the front of the peloton, though they are not making much inroads into the lead of the breakaway. If the nine out front go into the final climb with over 10 minutes in hand, then they will probably battle the stage out between themselves.
14:30 - 60km - Of these breakaway riders, Egoi Martinez is likely to be the strongest on the climb. The Basque is a very respectable climber.
14:28 - 64km - Incredible!! Cancellara has punctured again!! What rotten luck! This will mean a lot of wasted energy before a climb that will take everything out of him.
14:25 - 66km - A reminder of the composition of our lead group: Egoi Martinez (ESP/Euskaltel), Christophe Riblon (FRA/AG2R), Jose Ivan Gutierrez (ESP/Caisse d'Epargne), Rinaldo Nocentini (ITA/AG2R), Aleksandr Kuschynski (BLR/Liquigas), Christophe Kern (FRA/Cofidis), Jérôme Pineau (FRA/Quick Step), Brice Feillu (FRA/Agritubel), Johannes Fröhlinger (GER/Milram).
14:20 - 70km - Cancellara is hurling himself down the mountain, zipping in and out of team cars like a madman! Breathtaking stuff!
14:15 - 74km - Fabian Cancellara has a puncture!! What a bad time for the yellow jersey!! He drops back to the team car, and now faces a long chase to get back to the peloton on the descent.
14:10 - 77km - Latest gap: 11'15". All the riders are now on the descent from the Port del Comte. Once they reach the bottom, it's a long, long uphill stretch, all the way to Arcalis.
14:05 - 81km - At the summit of the Port Del Comte: 1. Riblon 4 pts, 2. Kuschynski 3 pts, 3. Martinez 2 pts, 4. Kern 1 pt.
14:00 -
82km - Patrick Lefevere (Quick Step sporting director) to Eurosport: "We're hoping that the tailwind will be back in the valley to help the breakaway. Since the start of the Tour, Jérôme Pineau has been looking to break away and has been feeling in good form. I think Lance Armstrong missed his chance to take the yellow hersey in the time-trial. Today will be more difficult."
13:55 - 85km - An absolutely glorious descent. Fantastic scenery here in the Pyrenees.
13:50 - 89km - Astana still at the head of the peloton. No other teams have shown any signs of taking turns on the front.
13:45 - 92km - Almost a disaster on the descent of the Serra-Seca for Jérôme Pineau. The Frenchman dropped back to his team car to solve a mechanical problem, though very nearly crashed into it on a bend.
13:40 - 96km - The breakaway has reached the top of the Serra-Seca. Riblon was first over the summit, and takes the 15 points. Martinez ws second and snaps up 13, with Kushnski in third position taking 11. All of which means that it is Christophe Riblon (Ag2r) who is now in the virtual polka dot jersey.
13:35 - 96km - A nightmare day is in the offing for poor Angelo Furlan of Lampre. The Italian fell heavily yesterday, and has already been dropped by the peloton on the Serra-Seca.
13:30 - 99km - The former French champion Nicolas Vogondy (Agritubel) has a puncture, and drops back to his team car for a quick wheel change.
13:28 - 100km - Christian Vande Velde's Garmin team are position right behind Astana on the front of the peloton. Klöden is looking particularly cool in his wraparound shades.
13:25 - Right, here's today's trivia question. No googling allowed. Five riders present in the peloton today also climbed to Andorra-Arcalis back in 1997. Name them. Answers to ukfeedback@eurosport.com. As before, first correct answer wins a virtual round of applause.
13:25 - There's a nasty sting in the tail of the Col de Serra Seca. Although it's 7.7km long at an average of 7.1%, it starts off at a manageable 6%, before ramping up to a leg-sapping 10% in the final kilometre.
13:20 - A quick shot of Agritubel's Brice Feillu on the back of the breakaway shows he is straight into the lowest gear possible on the first-category Col de Serra-Seca.
13:15 -
The gap is down to 11'15" now with 105 kilometres remaining.
13:10 -
The last time Lance Armstrong wore the yellow jersey was on 24 July 2005 - exactly 1447 days ago. That was the final stage of the 2005 Tour de France, his seventh win. He was just 0.22 of a second away from taking it in the team time-trial, but with only Fabian Cancellara ahead of him, he will be dreaming of yellow again today. I would think too many pure climbers have an interest in attacking today for Cancellara to remain in yellow - Alberto Contador is likely to be the man most likely to deny Armstrong the yellow jersey once again. If the American can finish within 19 seconds of his Spanish team-mate though, the jersey is his.
13:05 - Astana's big Swiss rider Gregory Rast is pulling the peloton along at the moment. A good rider for the flats, Rast. Less so once the road begins to steepen.
13:00 - The peloton hits the summit of the Port de Solsona 11'45" behind the group, and the sun has come out now! It has brightened up considerably, after a fairly cloudy start to the stage.
12:58 - At the intermediate sprint in Solsona: 1. Gutierrez (Caisse d'Epargne) 6 pts, Kuschynski (Liquigas) 4 pts, 3. Martinez (Euskaltel) 2 pts.
12:55 - At the summit of the Port de Solsona: 1. Riblon 4 pts, 2. Kuschynski 3 pts, 3. Martinez 2 pts, 4. B.Feillu 1 pt.
12:50 -
The peloton has reached the foot of the Port de Solsona, 11'50" after the breakaway.
12:45 -
The weather is certainly better than yesterday en route to Barcelona, though it's not blue skies and blazing sunshine. The peloton are makin their way northwards under cloudy skies. That's the way it will prbably stay, with temperatures at a pretty pleasant 19°C.
12:45 - The nine leaders are currently on the ascent of the second climb of the day, the Port de Solsona (category 3). It's a 5.8km climb at 4.3%.

12:40 -
The gap is down to 12'20".
12:35 -
Lance Armstrong after stage 6 "We're in a good position. We can sit back and keep an eye on the others, on Carlos, on Evans and on the Schleck brothers. I know that Alberto is ready to attack. If he goes off and nobody can follow him, then I will stay with the other favourites. That's how it's going to be. But I will show myself tomorrow (today) do my best, climb as quickly as possible, and we'll see what happens."
12:30 - A quick look at the position of our breakaway riders in the general classification. Rinaldo Nocentini (AG2R) isn 32nd @ 3'13", Jérôme Pineau (Quick Step) is 34th @ 3'17", Jose Ivan Gutierrez (Caisse d'Epargne) is 49th @ 4'07", Aleksandr Kuschynski (Liquigas) is 57th @ 4'37", Christophe Riblon (AG2R) is 84th @ 5'54", Egoi Martinez (Euskaltel) is 87th @ 6'04", Johannes Fröhlinger (Milram) is 90th @ 6'08", Brice Feillu (Agritubel) is 113th @ 8'05", Christophe Kern (Cofidis) is 163rd at 15'41".
12:25 - Columbia's Michael Rogers has received the green light from his team to take the start today after coming down heavily on his elbow yesterday after a few scans. The rain meant over 20 riders had to call on the attention of the medical car at various times, with Euskaltel's Mikel Astarloza suffering from a cut on his left ear, but he too has taken the start.
12:20 - Though Arcalis has been a stage finish five times in the Vuelta, this is only the second time a Tour de France stage has finished here. The first came back in 1997, when Jan Ullrich rode into the yellow jersey after putting more than a minute into Richard Virenque and Marco Pantani. He went on to win the Tour that year by the largest ever winning margin - 9'09".
12:15 - Astana's work is beginning to have an effect. The leaders' advantage has fallen just a tad to 13'30"
12:10 - Fabian Cancellara is sitting pretty in yellow at the moment, but with a phalanx of Astana riders all sat just behind him, he will do extremely well to keep hold of it today. We saw last year he led the peloton at high tempo over the Col du Galibier and a long way up the Col de la Croix de Fer, but will he have what it takes to hang onto the coat-tails of the climbers in Andorra-Arcalis? General classification
12:05 - The race for the young riders' white jersey is particularly close this year, with Tony Martin, Roman Kreuziger, Vincenzo Nibali and Andy Schleck all within a minute of eachother. Young riders' classification
12:05 - Stéphane Augé managed to ride himself into the polka dot jersey by snapping up the points over the five climbs from the breakaway. Jussi Veikkanen's spell as the first Finn every to lead the mountains classification is over. Polka dot jersey standings
12:00 - Two men are dominating the sprinters' points competition at the moment. Mark Cavendish managed to haul himself up the short climb to Montjuic to take 16th position yesterday, while Thor Hushovd took victory and moved to within a point of the Manxman. Gerald Ciolek is a distant third. Green jersey standings
11:50 - Astana are setting the pace in the peloton - they have four riders at the front including Lance Armstrong.
11:30 - The gap is now up to 14 minutes - it's a sizeable margin but there is quite some way to go - two category three climbs, a category one and an hors categorie.
11:10 - A further six riders have broken away, and the leaders are now five minutes clear of the peloton. Your nine escapees are: Jose Ivan Gutierrez (Caisse d'Epargne), Egoi Martinez (Euskaltel), Christophe Riblon, Rinaldo Nocentini (both AG2R-La Mondiale), Aleksandr Kuschynski (Liquigas), Christophe Kern (Cofidis), Jerome Pineau (Quickstep), Brice Feillu (Agritubel), Johannes Frohlinger (Milram).
11:05 - Former Tour de France winner Stephen Roche thinks today could be the perfect occasion for forgotten man Cadel Evans to try and catch Astana out. Roche: Time for Evans to attack
11:00 - If you are near a TV, you can watch today's stage LIVE on British Eurosport from 12:30pm. It is also available on the Eurosport Player, which has live internet streaming of British Eurosport. British Eurosport 2 and all sorts of bonus content. Eurosport Player
10:45 - Visit our video section for highlights and reaction from yesterday's stage six. Tour de France videos
10:30 - Today's 224km hike is under way, and already there is a three-man breakaway - Egoi Martinez, Christophe Riblon and Jose Ivan Gutierrez having escaped the peloton. It promises to be a long old day for all concerned.
- - It may have been a tense evening chez Astana last night. The simmering tension between Armstrong and Contador could come to a head, and it is up to team boss Johan Bruyneel to decide who is his main man. Astana face dilemma in mountains
- -
Le Tour heads to Andorra on stage seven, and the first mountain-top finish of this year's race. There is every chance of seeing a new man in yellow at the end of the day. But will it be Lance Armstrong, Alberto Contador or somebody else? Stage 7 description

Lance measured Alberto today. He could have covered, but rode the proper team ride and kept Cadel back. He also saved a bit for the next two days. If he is within 45 seconds for the final TT, he will beat Contador. Ventoux will be the decider for Lance, Spain is not steep enough to hurt him.
lance wont last in the mountains contador is streets ahead over all tour riders every mountain stage contador will pull futher away
¡BRAVO to ALBERTO! - 1st real day in the mountains and in only the last 2 kms he shows how quickly he can drop the rest of the best. Bravo for LANCE & ALBERTO and the REST of ASTANA for riding like good 'mates - Contador waited for Evans' Lt. - Van den Broeck to attack and only then did Contador counter attack & speed away for the last little bit. . . . clearly he could sped away sooner and put more time into others but he rode a great tactical race along with the rest of Astana. Bravo to EVANS for at least trying to attack and kudos to all the French results especially the very impressive Brice FELLIU - only 23 and he wins the longest and highest stage of the Tour! Congrats also to Mr. Nocentini of Italy in yellow at least for today. This Tour should hold some more exciting stages in the days to come. ALLEZ!

Aslong as lance doesnt drop too far behind contador lance will beat him in the TT. Still a long way to go before then tho but lance hasnt shown anything. He just sat with the other contenders as was stated on this page in his quotes.
Marisela F, Lance came safely home inthe top 10
He is 3rd overall...8 secs back of Nocellini (the leader) and 2 secs back of Cantador (2nd place)
Armstrong sitting in 3rd place overall now, 2 secs behind Contador.
Did you see Contador free wheel past on the corners?!!!!
WOW!
Split in Astana now?
Nocentini in yellow!! We want to see Rinaldo wearign yellow in Paris !!!
What place did Armstrong come in
Do commenatators read this page. Lance clearly stated he would sit back with leaders if Contador attacked. The biggest shock for me is a frenchnman won the stage lol
