Sagna out for three to five weeks

Tottenham's Gareth Bale and Arsenal's Bacary Sagna battle for the ball

More information as we get it...

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has been ruled out for at least three weeks with an ankle injury.

The right-back was substituted late on in the 2-1 defeat at Chelsea last Sunday, not long after scoring the opening goal.

The injury means that he will miss both legs of the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool, as well the vital Premier League clashes against the Merseysiders and Manchester United.

Emmanuel Eboue and Justin Hoyte are the most experienced dedicated right-backs in the squad after Sagna. Captain William Gallas played at full-back during his time at Chelsea, but his frustration at being played there was a factor in his move away from Stamford Bridge.

 ---

Sagna has been such a fixture on my team that I don't even see that spot when I'm looking at my team.  5.58 and decent return.  And finally last week he scores a goal!  But now it looks like it's time for a change.  Can't say I'm surprised by the news, and I have been looking around the defender listings (Collins, Stalteri, McEveley, etc).  I guess I'm just glad we get the definitive news now, rather than having to worry about a "late fitness test".

  4. Nothing good... for this week maybe Hangeland (7.92) Woody (7.5) Konch (7.02) Collins (6.41) Stalieri (5.49) Kelly (5.10)

  8. I'm .20 units short of Woodgate [and I have Hutton already...too many eggs in one basket etc.]. I was looking at Kelly but that has score draw written all over it.
Hoyte maybe? Or will Wenger pull in Senderos and shift 'billy no mates' Gallas over?
Poo it's Friday; I guess the no friday moves rule is in effect.

  9. no Friday moves without actionable information, and injury is certainly atop that list. I would guess that Eboue drops back into defence which may mean a start for Walcott or possibly Diaby. I have Hutton and Robbo and while Woody is attractive, I agree that it may be too many eggs, too few baskets. I like defenders from Ful/Derby, but maybe not McEveley. I think Stalteri is a better bet for just a little more money. But don't take my word for it, check out what Neal has to say later.

  12. Too bad ... I was way up on him. Replaced him with Cavalho ... averages ~5 pts per week, plays every game and with Chelsea a clean sheet is always a possibility.
