Blackburn Rovers' Jason Roberts (center) celebrates with MGP Gamst Pedersen and Bentley BFDB

This week we're upping the photo jinx!  Last week we got two... this week we're going for three!  My Who is Playing Derby? team has been running away with things over the last month so it's no surprise that my "real" team is trending in that direction. Last week I had four Gunners and this week - like the image jinx - we're uping the ante.  No fewer than seven Rovers.  JRob, RSC, MGB, BFDB, Warnock, and the former-MLS tandem of Nelsen and Big Bad Brad Friedel.  Jummy makes the team as I'm thinking home to BRM should mean fireworks.  The other places are enablers... Theo up front.  Not loving the home to Everton matchup but Theo is nicely priced.  Enabling, right?  BFAndy Reid in the midfield.  Again, the matchup isn't great @BOL but he's been on the team for a while and he's been worth the 7 and change.  The last spot and the biggest worry is Paintsil @ManU.  How bad could he be, right?  And if I drop from Big Brad to Carson, what do I get?  There are no defenders six and below that are of real interest.  Maybe Woody, but not loving @Red.  Konch or Stalteri?  Meh.  So we roll the bones against Derby.

Good luck to all this weekend.  See you in the comments, in this, your penultimate matchday open thread.

  2. Blackburn @ Birmingham isn't too bad either. Provided they kick butt in the second half today.

  3. How 'bout Wigan giving it to Villa on the road?! Man U may have a tough one on a tough pitch for the title.. (Is Reading as bad as Derby now?!)

  5. Dour game at the Reebok at the moment. Seems destined for a low-scoring draw, but my only way of killing time while waiting for the YFF scores to come up. Jeremy's strategy of stashing against Derby seems to be paying off for him as well as a lotta folks (including me!).

  9. I'm 42.5 points behind the top guy in my private league. He has Carson, I have Carson and I doubt he'll switch him. I'm gonna gameble on Caroll of Derby next week since they're playing against Reading. This will free some cash to buy better players and hopefully Derby holds against Reading!

  10. Uggh, I was doing so well this week until this week until the latest match. Gordon manages to concede 2 and lose without making a single save. And BFAR barely registers. Not good.

  11. re (33) Steve Bruce is Fergies buddy, and now Wigan got the win today they are safe from the drop, have nothing to play for, and can roll over meekly next week to let United win the title.

  12. Wow, I dropped Roberts/Pennant for Larsson/Nolan, on the theory of not having too many eggs in one basket and also going for guys taking kicks for teams who still have something at stake. That didn't turn out so well, and Pennant hasn't even played yet. Still had a decent week with Crouch still to play, but I've been treading water for weeks now due to stupidity like this.

  18. I figure Fulham has the toughest task ahead at Pompey next weekend. That said, they looked like a tight unit vs. BRM, and Pompey look like they are ready for the links. You'd think Reading have the easiest road to safety... but they have no spark these days, and Derby may be fired up to leave the Prem as spoilers... BRM plays the toughest foe in Rovers, but they are also at home, where they play well... what a finish. Who stays, who goes?? I am playing w/relegation battlers next weekend to make it more fun!

  19. I thought Fabianski was quite a good pick this week, especially after seeing yesterday's score, but I find he's only been given 8.5 points - no clean sheet. There have been a lot of complaints about missing clean sheets and perhaps the reason is that only players on the pitch at the end of the game are being credited them? This might account for Eboue's problems through the season - I know he's been subbed a lot? If this is right, it would be nice to know - there is no mention of this in the rules. And assuming Lehmann got CS points yesterday (his score suggests he did) it seems a bit of a lottery this way since he only played a small part of the match.

  21. (50) - thanks - so no clean sheet for either keeper then. I think Toure didn't get a clean sheet either but Gallas and Clichy did. So it all seems a bit random. I suppose at least Yahoo realises 1-0 is a win even if it thinks some goals were conceded.
