Porto Jose Bosingwa

Chelsea have beaten Manchester United to the signature of Porto full-back Jose Bosingwa, according to reports emerging in Portugal. The talented defender has demonstrated in the Champions League over the past few seasons that he is one of the continent's finest in his position...

However, it has now come to light that Chelsea are desperate to add the player to their ranks and have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals.

A fee of €20million (£15.8million) is thought to have been concurred between Porto and Chelsea, with Bosingwa to pen a five-year deal with the west London club.

  3. not sure why chelea buy ferreira from porto for £18m, then don't play him, then buy his replacement at porto for £16m. the phrase "more money than sense" springs to mind.

  4. In response to 3. There are a lot of money and it makes a lot of sense.

Ferreira featured heavily in our two Championship winning seasons. His form dropped did not get to play despite is name tag. That is where the "sense" is. It is also not an unknown fact that clubs often priced their players up when Chelsea is knocking on the door. 16 mil for Bosingwa is not a surprise at all. Yes it is a lot of money. It is a luxury, i know, but there are still reasonable "sense" behind it.

btw How much did Man U pay for Saha? how many games did he play this season? No one seemed to question when they pay big money for Tevez. Big clubs enjoy the luxury of having an expensive subbench... it is a fact.

  5. Ferreira's transfer fee was more in the region of 13 million and I believe it was money well spent.

  6. (4) and (5) you're both right in what you say. I just wanted to provoke a response. Tru when you say Manu are the big spenders in the Prem, I mean they paid £30m for Ferdinand a few years ago, now that is big bucks for a defender! Just not sure why Chels need another right back when Ferriera is good, Beletti is good, and didnt they sign that youngster in january for about £9m who also plays at rightback? Anyway if Bosingwa lives up to the hype I will put him in my Yahoo fantasy team 4 sure at hopefully a kick off price of around 6 units!
