[12:34] JSpitzberg: over/under 30million euros

[12:34] JSpitzberg: how much would Wenger pay for Essien?

[12:34] Neal J Thurman: under

[12:35] JSpitzberg: even for a world class player who perfectly fits a need?

[12:35] JSpitzberg: and trading w/in the EPL top four has to have a premium attached

[12:35] Neal J Thurman: agreed, it would be a great move, there's just no precedent for Arsene breaking the bank for anyone (would also presumably mean he has to pay a bunch of other guys more)

[12:36] JSpitzberg: man, imagine seeing him in red....

[12:36] Neal J Thurman: would be spectacular

[12:37] Neal J Thurman: only minor drawback is that he's short and Ars would be really diminuative down the middle (Gallas, Toure, Essien, Cesc)

[12:38] JSpitzberg: never killed scholes/keane ;-)

[12:38] JSpitzberg: but i guess that comes down to the quality of center back behind them

[12:38] JSpitzberg: and keeper

[12:39] Neal J Thurman: agreed

[12:39] Neal J Thurman: would certainly be a badass group

[12:39] Neal J Thurman: here's the big question, would you sell K2 to finance that move?

[12:39] JSpitzberg: how healthy is eduardo?

[12:40] Neal J Thurman: supposedly aiming for a training camp return

[12:40] JSpitzberg: straight swap, k2 for essien

[12:41] JSpitzberg: assuming drogs goes

[12:41] JSpitzberg: helps both teams

[12:41] Neal J Thurman: would be an interesting proposal

Neal ruminated a bit more on Chelsea over at the summer home. Stop by and tell him if he's right or wrong.

As for intra-big 4 trading (and being wrong), I still want to see the wheel spin faster. Essien should move to Arsenal and K2 should go to Chelsea. Then Drogba is free to move to Manchester United, who need a true center forward, and Finnan could follow from Liverpool as Gary Neville's replacement at right back. That would allow Wes Brown to move to Arsenal, who still need improvement at center back. How does this not improve each team?

More? Okay, Hleb goes to Liverpool as cover for Kuyt and/or Babel while Crouch moves the other way. Arsenal would be a better fit for Crouch as they'll play balls to his feet rather than using his height as an excuse to waste crosses in his direction. Benchtner, now demoted behind the big man with surprising skill, moves to ManU where he can understudy for Drogba and "presto!" now SAF has his coveted four striker rotation.

Next time, we'll figure out how Newcastle and Villa get linked with everyone mentioned above. And how they'll all end up at Portsmouth and Citeh.

  5. Continue with your smoke filled alternate reality. Fantasy Football is all we have left. According to the "Manchester United F.C." page of Wikipedia, ManUre have already been awarded the 2008/09 Premier League Championship.

  6. Arsenal fans out there, please help me out. Do you guys think Bendtner will have a chance to partner Van Persie up front this season if Adebayor leaves, or will he still be behind Eduardo in the pecking order? And do you guys think that Eduardo will be fit in time to start the 1st game? Thanks a lot. =)

  7. p.harry15, my opinion is that it looks like Adebayor will stay, but if he goes, then I think Arsenal must buy a replacement, not because Bendtner, Wallcott, Eduardo can't fill the void, but because RVP is so injury prone Arsenal will need someone else to lead the line when RVP is injured (say 50% of season) Although I suppose an Eduardo/Bendtner combo could work?

  8. Thanks Pete. So let me get this straight... IF K2 leaves (which I hope he doesn't), and Wenger were to find a replacement, this "replacer" would most probably partner RVP, instead of Eduardo or Bendtner. Am I right? I pity those two... They always performed well coming off the bench... scored some pretty important goals... and yet they still can't get regular starting places... Too bad for them...
