What to do? What to do?
It appears clear that Hilario is going to make one more start in net for Chelsea before Cudicini steps in for the rest of the season. For myself, I have Carlo for less than 8.50 and am trying to decide if I'm going to give the money back for some points from my keeper this weekend. Obviously, Tim Howard (home match with Sheffield United) is the other choice. I'm trying to squeeze every last cent out for my outfield players so for me, Hilario is going to be the answer.
In other injury news, emerging blog favorite David Bentley is a question after tweaking his hamstring in UEFA Cup action yesterday. I'm working under the assumption that he's going to play but risk-averse managers may not be so inclined.
As discussed yesterday in this space, both of Pompey's wing backs - Johnson and Stefanovic - are out for the match with Chelsea. If you're convinced Pompey's defence has what it takes to shut the Blues down at the Bridge (and I'm not sure why you would think that), then Noe Pamarot is your guy - inexpensive and guaranteed a start.
For Arsenal Freddie Ljungberg is going to remain out along with Julio Baptista meaning that Hleb and Rosicky are likely to continue unchallenged in their starting roles.
For Spurs, it appears that Tom Huddlestone will get the start over ailing Didier Zakora. With Huddlestone listed as a defender (and a 4.34 defender at that) his presence in midfield at home against a weak opponent is an opportunity for fantasy managers looking to free up some budget.
Finally, the phrases being used to describe my man Ryan Giggs' prospects for playing are not exactly certain. I think he'll play given the profile of the match but I can't say I'm particularly happy with the wording of the injury update.
That's about it for high-profile injury updates this week

"Despite Harper performing his own Lazarus act on Thursday, playing again within 72 hours could well stretch him (and his groin) beyond breaking point. Old boy Pavel Srnicek could therefore be in line to make his first Newcastle appearance for nine years, a decade on from being in the starting XI on our first-ever visit to the Riverside (a 2-1 win)." (from nufc.com) Srnicek might be a quick fix keeper solution for the weekend, he's a great shot stopper although he was never the greatest on crosses...but neither was Hilario during the week for Chelsea...without tempting fate, Newcastle have a good record at Boro in the Premiership.

Posted by: alay27 on Fri Oct 20 07:35PM | Report abuseHilario's cheap, competent and Chelsea have a solid shot at keeping a clean sheet. This decision seems pretty easy this week. Almost, almost...too easy. The gods are setting us up for something.

Posted by: alay27 on Fri Oct 20 07:56PM | Report abuseSrnicek is not posted but he should be, I thought I'd seen his name there too! He will play ahead of Krul who was only on the bench in the UEFA Cup game because Srnicek was ineligible. I doubt Yahoo will update the player list before the weekend now. If they have Chelsea's 4th string keeper why not Newcastle's? Tony Caig plays for Vancouver Whitecaps now I think. Yahoo could do a bit better updating some of the names, like Reyes for example who is long gone.
