Fantasy Premier League

The Fantasist

So, he's off

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney celebrates scoring his sides second goal with Cristiano Ronaldo - Saturday September 27, 05:24 PM

It was inevitable, but it is still shocking as it actually happens.

"Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of 80 million pounds for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid," the club said.

"At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player."

Well, well, well.   This changes everything for next season.  No CRon.  Likely much more churn on the transfer front.

Full thoughts (and yours welcome) on Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer to Real Madrid over at the summer place, fantasyepl.blogspot.com.

  2. hmmm sure, lets' say that Chelsea buys sucess with so much money, but when Real Madrid does it nobody says anything, but that they are Galacticos! What Hypocrisy!

  3. Could one argue that the Glazers had to sell to pay off their debts, whereas Madrid can run up debt because they are essentially backed by the full faith and credit of the Spanish government? Not hypocrisy, but nor is it a level playing field.

  5. Good riddance. He was a spoiled brat. When he stormed off at the CL final, he showed his true nature. Bring on the next generation. SAF will surely bring on better players who understand TEAM over indivual.

  6. And to think United paid 20m for him. They made 60m on him plus all the royalty and profit from the triple EPL crown, UCL, and various hardware... Pretty good investment.

  7. i cant say he wasnt important to United & the success theyve had in recent years but to be honest i believe Messi is a better player & he will see himself next season when his world player of the year crown goes to Messi,im sure Real believe buying Kaka and the diva which is Ronaldo will buy them the success there coach/team couldnt bring them last season but as far as im concerned the more egos they buy the better,as it dont make a team ,Ronaldo will not get away with the tantrums and hissy fits he threw at United,Ronaldo you are selfish link ...goodbye!

  8. Ronaldo was amazing for man utd, problem is they are going to need to buy someone who is gonna get 20 plus goals in their 1st season in the prem. This is is going to be near impossible wether they get ribery or benzema or both, so cud see man utd struggle next year but can never write them off. As for madrid i never thought that a team with kaka and ronaldo could be considered laughable but they cud well be a joke next year, they have little in the way of team players any way but to get these two great individuals is not going to help them through out the entire season. Barcelona will still win la liga as they have these type of world class players (eto, messi, henry) as well as team players like toure, xavi, iniesta etc. Madrid shud have invested the £130m in a team not players who are just gonna sell a few shirts.

  11. I think this was a very savvy move by United. Ronaldo is unquestionably talented but may have seen his apex last year. He seemed less effective this past season, whether due to his effort or better marking by opponents, I can't say. United may have maximized their profit and opportunities abound, I'm excited. Personally, I hope they land Ribery, I'd like to see more of him in action.

  12. Good business my Man Yoo. PEAK of his career without a major injury. Bag £80 mil for him. I think Man Yoo has done the right thing.
I can't wait for the +10 player(s) Man Yoo get to fill his roles!!!
It'll be an exciting EPL fantasy season without CRon in the lineup.

  13. good riddance to bad rubbish. He may be a talented player but all the diving, whining, and crying drove me away from Man Yoo, a club I had loved for many years. If Ryan Giggs is the class act CRon was the classless clown.
Ribery or Benzema would be interesting additions to the team.
