CRon Thoughts

Fri Jun 12 01:57AM

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo

Just a few thoughts after a great trip to India and returning to the news that CRon will be leaving England for Spain.

1) Even with Kaka and CRon, I'm still not sure Real is the best team in their own league.

2) Let the battle commence for the title of Best Fantasy Player in the Prem, early favorites are Lamps, Gerrard, Arshavin, Robinho, Ashley Young, and, of course, one or more of the guys that ManYoo gets with their CRon money.

3) I'm sure there will be some impressive talents who come in to replace CRon at Old Trafford.  Here is my bet as to what will play out...

Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov will both play a lot better assuming that the players coming in will be more likely to play inside of a team concept - both players underperformed their talent level and will likely rise up to fill some of the gap.

While Roonaldo and Berbs will play better, the loss of CRon will cast a brighter light on the general disaster that is the ManYoo midfield - the best use of the cash may be to buy 4 starting quality midfielders.

Regardless of what happens, you have to think that ManYoo minus CRon will be sort of like Arsenal minus TH14 - they will still be very good but you have to wonder where the game winning plays will come from - Rooney has the talent but isn't nearly consistent enough (call him RvP+ which is a good thing but not good enough to be a front man for a Premier League Champion and/or Champions League winner.  Part of the problem with both players is inconsistency, part is temper, and part is injury.

One final thought and I've been on this since SAF was sniffing around Michael Ballack a few years back.  It seems to me that Wayne Rooney's best position is as a replacement for Paul Scholes with two strikers ahead of him and a central midfield partner (or two) who helps shield the defence and distribute the ball to Rooney, the new winger(s), and the strikers.

So, what do you guys think about what SAF should do with the money?

  1. Ok, now, first of all I'm a L'pool fan but I have some thoughts of my own. Ribery would be The best choice by far, cuz I don't see any other world class winger filling CRon's shoes. And Ribery is more like a team's player. Thats a good start...! (not for 'Pool, surely :S)
Nani, Tosic and even Valencia (not sure about this one) are Not good bets. So as you said, it would be better to concentrate improving the entire midfield (hellooo...scholes, giggs, fletcher...anyone) rather than looking to replace CRon...
Worst of luck to ManUtd (sorry for being subjective on this one)
Hope we win the title this year (sounds familiar, doesn't it), have a laugh of your one, go on!!!

  3. Firstly Man u have Owen Hargreaves to look forward to coming back from injury.

Ribery, Karim Benzema and I have a feeling about Glen Johnson as well as Neville looks like he is going.

  4. It's sad that none of the major signings of the past 2 years had consistently produced to their value: Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson, Berb, Tevez (5M a year!!)... So I am for avoiding inflated value wise players like Ribery
And I'd love for Man U to go at one of these few under the radar (well not quite but still a little) players:
David Silva: Valencia owes half a million euros next year, and selling Villa alone wont be enough to save them. Silva is a madly creative and versatile player who would add to the creative style SAF has been trying to impose.
Miguel Veloso & Joao Moutinho: are they the young siblings of the Xavi-Iniesta duo? Highly intelligent and skilled fellow countrymen who compliment each other extremely well. With such good relationship with Sporting, ManU can get at least one of them. Though Moutinho is the better playmaker, ManU might go for Veloso first due to his defensive prowess (with Hargreaves so uncertain, and Rooney's possible position at behind the 2 strikers)
And don't scratch out the possibility that SAF will pull another Brazillian out of nowhere again this year.

  5. As long as Yahoo have Ribery as a Midfielder then I'll be happy for him to come to England.

  9. though i never watched moutinho & veloso play, they are always highly rated by football fans, so i think fergie should get one of them to replace scholes first rather than CRon, i dont think Anderson is a good replacement for scholes because Anderson is over attacking minded.....

for CRon part, get another gem as they did for CRon last time, though he took awhile to shine, but worth it...... Valencia? I'm not too sure.....

as for striker, unless Benzema willing to play a super sub role like Sojskear, no point to bring him in, because sooner or later he'll become another Tevez..... (nonetheless Lyon is not letting him go)

Ribery for 90M, even higher than CRon? thats totally crazy, he is not worth that price unless he can do more than CRon.....if he goes to Real, than CRon will only handed one role in Real, a pure winger who take free kicks and penalty kicks.....

David Silva - not sure he will come.... can he speak english? does any devils speak spanish? no doubt he is a great player, probably a next Messi/CRon....

I'm quite curious with what Tosic can do.... is him the advance plan to replace CRon?

Nani, please lift up the expectation, run more and dont do stupid dribble and control your temper.....

lets see what will happend to Man Utd, i'm sure fergie had his plan
