The Fantasist

Choose 'em or lose 'em?

Fri Oct 23 03:36PM

Sometimes the simplest advice is the best. Advice like PICK DIDIER DROGBA, HE'S BRILLIANT.

Liverpool and Manchester United players are best avoided this week ahead of Sunday's game at Anfield - Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham are the sides with the best match-ups.

GOALKEEPERS

Choose 'em:
Man City's Shay Given (8.24) looks a good bet for a clean sheet against a Fulham side missing Andy Johnson and Danny Murphy, Boaz Myhill (3.39) of Hull is cheap and gets to play Portsmouth, and Petr Cech (10.71) is a clean sheet waiting to happen for Chelsea.

Lose 'em: Not even The Fantasist can justify picking Paul Robinson (3.45) this week as Blackburn face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Robert Green (7.69) faces a fearsome Arsenal attack, and Chris Kirkland (5.71) is an injury doubt.

DEFENDERS

Choose 'em:
Aston Villa's Carlos Cuellar (7.04) is cost-effective, Branislav Ivanovic (7.62) should start for Chelsea against Blackburn, and Graham Alexander (5.93) is going to score some points eventually. Why not at home to Wigan?

Lose 'em:
James Collins (13.07) - same team as Cuellar, nearly twice the price, Mario Melchiot (6.77) is cheap but won't be cheerful after Burnley stuff Wigan, and Pascal Chimbonda (10.31) is crazy expensive.

MIDFIELDERS

Choose 'em: Cesc Fabregas
(19.97) is the most expensive player in the game for a reason, Jermaine Jenas (8.34) could enjoy himself when Spurs host Stoke, and Tamir Cohen (7.64) has been a revelation this season.

Lose 'em: We're all glad Jimmy Bullard (12.30) is back but not at that price, beware getting suckered onto the Antonio Valencia (13.44) bandwagon, and ditto David Dunn (11.64) of Blackburn.

FORWARDS

Choose 'em: Keep picking Chelsea's Didier Drogba (16.08) until he stops being brilliant, expect Emmanuel Adebayor (13.44) to rediscover his scoring touch against Fulham, and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (5.94) will not get a better match-up than Portsmouth at home.

Lose 'em: Wayne Rooney (18.13) is too much of an injury risk, Christian Benitez (6.68) has apparently fallen out with Birmingham boss Alex McLeish, and Kevin Davies (9.43) has a poor points per game total and a tendency to accumulate more bookings than goals.

  28. @25,26,27 - Nobody knows if Bilyatednitov will play (on Sunday) so it's down to gut feelings (or taking the hit for a week & not losing the discount), Richards is a great choice but Neville isn't guaranteed to start & Gomez hasn't started the last few games so I wouldn't pick him myself.

By the way, if anyone fancies some last minute chat/discussion on player picks & injuries then we have a constant live "quick chat" going on over at my blog with lots of people who are in the overall Top 50 discussing options! The address is:
