The Fantasist

Foreign view: Grand Granero

Wed Oct 28 03:31PM

The Fantasist will avoid any tired bus analogies and simply say that Real Madrid's Copa del Rey humiliation at minnows Alcorcon on Tuesday was the first of three derbies in quick succession; the next comes when they host Getafe this weekend. With Cristiano Ronaldo (30.67) still out, Esteban Granero (15.40) could do the business against his former club to help Real get back on track. Xabi Alonso (5.65) has not exactly set the Bernabeu alight yet, but you can't help but be tempted at that price.

Sevilla make the short trip to fellow Andalucians Xerez, who have scored a piffling three goals in their first eight league matches in the top flight. Therefore, Rojiblancos goalkeeper Javi Varas (8.10) is nailed on for a clean sheet assuming he keeps his place, while defenders Sebastien Squillaci (7.98) and Fernando Navarro (7.66) should also have an easy night.

Mallorca have the tightest defence at home this season, but don't be fooled into picking Ivan Ramis (1.82) or Josemi (1.00) - they're both suspended for his red card picked up against Atletico Madrid last weekend.

Diego Forlan (25.35) has scored 10 goals in as many appearances against Athletic Bilbao. Atletico Madrid may continue to be a shambles, but the Uruguayan striker knows where the net is.

Barcelona have scored 11 times from set pieces already this season, providing Xavi (15.28) with regular assist points. Barca travel to Osasuna, who may spring a little surprise in the form of Walter Pandiani (14.95), who has bagged six goals in eight appearances this term.

It's a big weekend in France, as the top two set to clash on Saturday afternoon.

Champions Bordeaux welcome Monaco to the Stade Chaban Delmas, and with them form man Nene (21.93), the Brazilian who has scored nine so far this season and five in the last three. He may be pricey, but he's still averaging more than his value, so get involved.

Auxerre are very much the form team in France right now; their run of seven games unbeaten - the last four of which are wins - have seen them shoot up the table. Benoit Pedretti (11.18) has been a major part of that, and his two goals this season already matches his scoring contribution in his previous three years at the club.

However, if you fancy Montpellier to come out on top against Auxerre, then big Serb centre-back Nenad Dzodic (7.35) and little playmaker Alberto Costa (8.40) both provide brilliant value.
