The Fantasist

Foreign view: Va-Va-Vahirua

Lorient's Marama Vahirua (22.41) followed up his brace in the 5-0 drubbing of Boulogne with another virtuoso performance against Saint-Etienne. The Tahiti-born forward banged in a superb free-kick and set up for defender Franco Sosa (10.54), and the pair scored 34 and 19 points respectively.

Bordeaux were knocked off the top spot after losing 1-0 Valenciennes, their first home defeat since the reign of Louis XIV. Defender Gaetan Bong (8.46) made plenty of blocks and interceptions, while goalkeeper Guy N'dy Assembe (13.45) made a monster seven saves to deny the champions.

Montpellier moved up to fifth in the table thanks to a brace from Victor Montano (11.02) against Lille. He would have earned more than his 20.5-point haul too, had he not been booked for persistent fouling.

And, of course, The Fantasist can't go without mentioning surprise table-toppers Auxerre. Star man for them in the 2-0 win over Monaco that saw them leapfrog Bordeaux was Adama Coulibaly (14.82), who deserved to score the opener for his excellent all-round defensive display.

Mallorca's 3-1 win at home kept up the Islanders' 100 per cent home record. Gonzalo Castro (13.89) scored two and created the other for striker Victor (11.84), while goalkeeper Dudu Aouate (13.01) made a highly impressive nine saves.

Real Madrid laboured to their 1-0 win over struggling Racing Santander, so it's telling that Royston Drenthe (11.55) was their highest-scoring player. The Dutchman won tackles and free-kicks, intercepted passes and, because he's listed as a defender, picked up a clean sheet bonus.

The biggest scorer of the weekend in Spain was Villarreal striker Nilmar (16.80). The Brazilian followed up his goal against England with a brace against Valladolid in a performance that earned him 27 points.  His team-mate Damian Escudero (9.74) set up two goals in the 3-1 win, and earned a tidy sum himself.

No prizes for guessing the weekend's big gun - Francesco Totti's (38.92) hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Bari (his first match in six weeks) netted him a cool 43 points and saw his value soar by 12.32 fantasy lira.

Atalanta may have won their relegation clash at Siena 2-0, but goalkeeper Andrea Consigli (11.14) was the hero as he made seven saves, including a penalty.

Fiorentina have dropped to sixth below Parma, who beat them 3-2 at the Artemio Franchi, but Alberto Gilardino (20.39) still managed a brace and a few more shots to haul in 27 points.
