Two weeks ago, we wondered form versus match-up. Was Tevez against Sunderland the better bet than an in-form Anelka against Everton. In that head-to-head, Anelka came out the clear winner and I'm so glad to have picked him.
This week is a little different. The clear matchup favorites are Newcastle visiting Derby while the "losers" are a "struggling" ManU visiting normally rock-solid Everton. But this isn't about that... sort of.
OK, this is going to be a bit rambling, but here goes...
Got to have Owen this week, right? Bang on form. Facing a Derby defence that calling porous is an insult to sieves everywhere. Got to have Ronaldo, right? Fanstay stud. The new Henry. But... he's 21.72 and @Everton. But gotta have him, right?
Must have some Arsenal representation too, right? Away to Spurs who are giving away goals. 44% of the shots that Robinson has faced have gone in (8 goals allowed, with only 10 saves made). So Hosicky with five shots on goal in three matches stays in the team.
So ignoring some other trading, to make a long story shorter, that leaves me to decide between Clint Dempsey and Jason Koumas in the midfield. These two face off @ Wigan tomorrow. Who to keep and who to sell?
I'm leaning towards keeping Koumas. He may be injured, but it doesn't seem to be that bad of an injury. More of a "Giggs for Wales" face-saving injury. And he's the home player and takes kicks for Wigan. Always what I look for in a fantasy player, especially long time BF's.
But Dempsey is en fuego! Two goals. Two assists. Seven shots on target! And all that without starting Fulham's first two matches. And that's the rub for me. I just keep thinking about Healy and Kamara fighting with Dempsey for the two forward spots. Unless they're fighting to partner him. And now with Danny Murphy, Papa Bouba Diop, and Seol added to the midfield, it seems less likely that Dempsey can just drop back into the middle of the park.
So again, I'm calling on the wisdom of the masses. What do you think -- Deuce or Kouce?
and btw, what do you think -- http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/fantasy-football-blo
g/article/1417/2/ -- uncanny, isn't it?
Dempsey seems like a no-brainer considering his current form, but that's exactly why I'm in doubt, he's been sensational the past two weeks, but what if he can't keep it up. Like you said, Fulham have more than enough options, and dear Clint doesn't have claimed a place in the starting XI just yet.
Wigan have given away ZERO home goals. Good for Kirk, not good for all the Fulham players contemplated above.
And if you bought Kirk to afford Ronaldo, then having Kirk in net and Dempsey shooting on him seems like a wash regardless of what happens.
For all of you loading up on NUFC (and as I write that a picture of Lucy pulling away the football comes to mind), keep in mind that Given played the cup match and for Ireland. He's fit and saves $1, but will he play? And if you were sticking with Harper, will he play? It doesn't matter to me since I picked Kirkland to afford c-ron, but I like posting things that might keep you awake staring at the ceiling. By the way, Malouda is due.
well i been hearin about koumas all season and havent used him suh i finally gonan give in whiel he is still hceap..since the match up doesnt seem that bad
Sibierska has been pretty amazing as well and he's playing at home. Hmmm... I say go with the wigan boys
don't be surprised when it's Martins and Dukes against Derby and all of the Owen backers are gnashing their teeth.
Why would Sanchez drop a player in form? Not only did Dempsey score in his last 2 Premiership matches, he also scored in USA's 2-4 defeat to Brazil. Healy has not done much of late, and Kamara is even worse.
Healy may not have performed well in premiership however he is currently the top scorer in Euro. With 11 goals. I will think he just need to adopt and find the similar teamwork in fulham, he will be a goal bagger.
Healy has never produced consistently over any length of time. He's got a great scoring record for his country, I think. But that's it. I doubt that he's gonna turn into a 20 goal scorer in the top flight all of a sudden. As for Dempsey - I think (and hope) he'll keep playing as long as he's in form. How long is that gonna be? Only time will tell. He's always been a star in the MLS. And he's now had a little time to adjust to the Premier League, so maybe what you see is what you're gonna get for the rest of the season. Then again... maybe not. Who knows?
why isn't anyone considering, Martin PETROV since he's at home to VILLA? What u guys think..i'm in the balance now, still undecided on the midfield with the deadline approaching.
argghhh..bale scores....who can lend me some money...
soccernet gamecast's stats can be really misleading. 9 shots for ronaldo, with 5 on target - in reality, 4 of those shots were blocked... so its 1 SOT in YFF terms. oh throw in a yellow card and we on the ronaldo bandwagon is truly messed up.
Cesc is the new CRon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 assists, 1 goal....
Cesc (CFab) is the new CRon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 assists, 1 goal....
And Dempsey scores again! Can we call him Senor Fuego now?
Dempsey has what it takes to be a friggin Super Star. hope Sanchez will stick with him this season.
Overall what a huge disapointment this week .. anelka reminded me why i still should avoid betting for or against Bolton.
almunia is no superman..congrats jens!
but seems like fabergas is.
chelsea are laboring every game - seems like there is no fluidity in their game.
hope owen scores monday although seems like everyone hes him anyway.
my "midfield" defenders (pat+bale+taylor) sucked except for the yungster's excellent free kick - and then again everyone's got him too.
hey - how about getting the whole arsenal team for next week?
I took a real gamble choosing Fabregas over Ronaldo.
But it paid off.
Cesc will be this years CRon. I'm glad I went with him and didn't build my whole team around CRon. And thank god, I did choose dempsy. I was in real doubt, seeing as how Nani made the ManU starting 11, but I chose to ride it out. And it paid off. top 4000 this week, gained another 3000 places. Top 1000 here I come.
Feast or famine this week. Bale, Dempsey, Cesc, and Reina were huge, and nobody else did anything. Torres didn't even play, bleh, though everyone has him, so it didn't much matter. I've got Milner, Taylor, and Owen going against Derby monday, which will decide whether it's a pretty good or a really great week. I'm up into the top 1000 at least, which is better than I was ever doing last year.
torres came in, but did nothing. .5 pts.
i took bale out and i am the only one that did not have torres but instead went with shevchenko....still bad!!!! anelka did nothing and i had jussi in goal -1 there!!! Nice thing i wanted 120 pts this week, i need miracle now from owen and nzogbia.
jeremy, neal, can u guys make a summary bout the best performers (each club) so far. It would be easy to pick the players, for future fixtures, coz it seems like only the high price players that seems to give us great points...excluding utaka, dempsey n koumas.
I would like to thank Mr.Cesc Fabregas and Mr.C.Dempsey for providing me with half of my teams points this week. Hope both of you will continue to help and support my YFF team for weeks to come. Thanks again.....
I am!
You are NOT!
Referring to my question in #3 & Neal's response in #9 in the following link: http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/fantasy-football-blo
g/article/4077/ What exactly are "Last Man Saving Tackles" (ST)??? I bet Toure's tackle on Berbatov in the 2nd half was "Last Man" rite? That was even WITHOUT keeper! Does Yahoo ever condsider this ST points? Note: I didn't have Toure, just being curious. Thx!
Can anyone find Kenwyne Jones on this? Think he'd be worth considering?
Jeremy, I was posting from Toby's computer. I AM mas macho than Toby, but being only as macho as neal gives me pause. Maybe one day i can be as macho as Mr. Jeter!!!
