Sunderland's £9million goalkeeper Craig Gordon is set to spend an extended time on the sidelines after manager Roy Keane admitted the club's record signing needs time to recover from some recent psychological blows...
He was dropped for Sunderland's victory over Derby last weekend, with replacement Darren Ward keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory, and Keane said he is going keep Gordon on the bench for the foreseeable future.
"The lad's been under pressure, so missing a few games will do him a world of good mentally more than physically. I'm delighted with him but I have to look at what's best long term, and he'll get the benefits of it without a doubt, to miss a few games," said the Sunderland boss...
The decision means that Ward will again be in goal against Chelsea at the weekend and the Welshman admitted he wasn't expecting to get called up.
"I was surprised at being selected. In my opinion Craig Gordon is an excellent goalkeeper, but I'd like to keep my place in the side," he said.

Not that you're picking Ward (10.62) at Chelsea. But more so you aren't tempted to get Gordon (2.67) for their ensuing matches.
This is good for Sunderland. Ward is solid, and most of the goals Craig has given up have not been his fault. Hopefully Sunderland can shore up their defense during the January transfer window and give Gordon some help in the back.
This would have been great to know LAST WEEKEND. Damn it!

ahah so agree, miss a couple of points there
Little tip - I'm a Hibs fan and the goal Craig Gordon just conceded there was an utter belter from the edge of the area from Derek Riordan who is now at Smellic and has just been transfer-listed. Look out for either Alex McLeish or Martin O'Neill to sign him - guaranteed plus 10.
