Matchday Open Thread

Sat Dec 15 02:06PM

Manchester United and Chelsea players are silhouetted during their English Community Shield football match at Wembley Stadium in London, August 5, 2007.

Today is just the warm up. The appetizer to the football buffet that is Grand. Slam. Sunday. Excuse me, Grand! Slam! Sunday!

But for fantasy managers, it doesn't matter if your points come from Eastlands or the Emirates; Joe, Ashley, Andrew, or Carlton Cole; Steve Sidwell, Howard, or Gerrard; Xabi or Mikel; Dickson or Kelvin; etc... You get the, um, point(s).

Good luck, and let us know how your team is performing.

Consider this your match day open thread.

Update:

Big holiday week with two-gamers as far as the eye can see coming up. I'll start the barn(es) door discussion. Bianchi, BFDB, Nelsen --> Martins, Koumas, Scharner. Rovers are CHE,@MAC. Which is probably the worst set of games for the week. Wigan - though lord knows I think they are terrible and are doomed this season - play @FUL,NUF. I'm not picking Bramble or MBent, but there could be some points in those matches.

What do you think? Who are you picking up before the barn door closes?

  1. Get Cesc now. If he does something against Chelsea, you have him locked. If his price goes down, u@#$%ate your values for the cash. You cannot lose with a fit Cesc at 16 and having served his ban and up for the double.

  2. I'm surprised by the absence of Abou Diaby given his return to fitness and goal earlier in the week. He's not even on the bench. Tactical decision by the Professor or is he injured again? Thank in advance for any info anyone has. :)

  3. No idea on Abou Diaby's health, but if Flamini is good to go, Wenger's always gonna choose him over Diaby.

  4. How unbelievably good has Almunia been today? I've had doubts all season, even when he kept a CS he sometimes looked shaky, but props to Almunia today.

  7. Interesting that after all the suggestions given, Yahoo seems to have stepped up their u@#$%ates and the Barn Door has been significantly shortened, at least in most cases. Liverpool/Man Utd players were u@#$%ated quick, but still waiting on all the Arse/Chelsea players. In deference to fairness for all, shouldn't there be a specific timeframe for when u@#$%ates are done?

Regarding Almunia: yes, he did well, and Cech, aside from his huge blunder for the goal, was great too. Cesc looks back to his best, though he was lucky to escape with only a yellow for that tackle, and Ca$hley had better get at least a 3 match ban. Perhaps most surprising was Shevchenko who I thought would have been second choice to Kalou: he looked sharp and actually showed some pace here and there.

  10. Belletti most likely sat because Mourinho/Grant have certain players that play in the big games. Makelele and Ferreira are both included in that list of players, so Belletti was most likely rested due to the big game situation. Also most likely the reason Sidwell didn't start in the midfield.

  15. RE: 74 and Friedel: I think Brad's a terrific keeper, but he's having a terrible season, especially with BBurn giving up a bunch of PKs and a bunch of injuries and suspensions in the middle and back. Long story short, I love Friedel, but I had him for the double a few weeks ago and lost major points for the week. Thus, even when it looks good on paper, I'm not picking him as my keeper. I feel your pain.
