Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed Joe Hart as his first-choice goalkeeper, a move that could prompt the exit of Andreas Isaksson in January.
England Under-21 man Hart has played eight times this season, and featured in Tuesday's 2-0 Carling Cup reverse at home to Tottenham...
"I have spoken to Andreas and obviously, he is not very happy. I have told him it is up to him whether he leaves or stays and fights for his place," Eriksson said.
"It was important for everybody that I came up with this decision before the transfer window opens in January.
"I don't know what Andreas will do but if he comes back and tells me he wants to go, I will not be surprised and I will understand."
"Joe will be my number one for the foreseeable future, which just shows how much belief I have in him," said Eriksson.

Wow. So after waiting the better part of 18-months to get on the bandwagon I've now missed the entire Isaksson era at ManCiteh. I'm a bit sad. But have to say I probably haven't missed much. It was always next week for his return, and then when he did get the chance it was a combination of schedule and Given's ridiculous price that had me picking the Magpie.
Of course anything could happen in January. I wouldn't expect Isaksson to stay in England but perhaps Bolton or Boro could pick him up in case Jussi or Schwarzer leave for greener pastures. Or maybe Carlo moves on from Chelsea and they need an international back-up for Cech.
Regardless of what happens, Hart at 12.39 isn't a bargain. And we'll see how the move works out for Sven and Citeh as the games (and the snow) pile up.

Picked up Given a couple of weeks ago and can't find a good reason to let him go now, perhaps even for the rest of the season... At 2.5 he opens up so many options for the rest of the team.

Posted by: i_am_on_thg on Thu Dec 20 06:25PM | Report abusesame goes for picking up Mokoena a couple weeks ago at like 1.49.... if he doesn't play, hes actually doing better than sometime (-.50) when he does play. Also opens up a lot of other space. I have Given too, but he actually gets me points! : )
