Nery Castillo

[Updated with all the team news below.]

Well, so much for bringing Nery Castillo into your side - talk about your all-time bad luck.  Welcome to England, your shoulder is broken - see you in six weeks.  Looks like Citeh better hold on to Bianchi and fantasy managers can continue to assume he'll get regular starting work.

In other striker news, it looks like Faddy's move has been completed in time and he is eligible to face Chelsea this weekend.  I'm suggesting putting him on Barn Door Watch rather than drafting him straight in to your squad given the match-up but know he's available for cheap if you need a cheap striker.

Apparently new Brum defender Chris Murphy has been recovering from a hamstring problem so it is uncertain whether he will start against Chelsea.  Probably worth waiting a week on him as well.

At Arsenal, RvP appears to have (stop me if you've heard this before) come back to early from an injury and caused a relapse.  He'll be out for a few more weeks leaving EdS and Bendtner to fight for the spot.  Personally, I'd choose Bendtner but Arsene seems to have a preference for EdS so if you're looking for a moderately priced striker, he's probably your guy.

In other Arsenal news, Rosicky appears to be healthy again meaning Diaby will likely return to the bench.

Agger is still out for Pool meaning that Rafa will choose between the brand new Skrtel and the creaky Hyypia to partner Carragher.  Worth a look at the new guy if he's posted.

At Cheslea, Lamps might be back in contention but if you're spending, probably best to go with a sure thing.  If you are looking to spend a little bit though, new signing Ivanovic is eligible and hoping for his first start.

Steinsson and Taylor are likely to start for Bolton against injury/suspension/ACN ravaged Newcastle.  The common wisdom says this is a NUFC win at St. James' Park but with only 12 senior players to choose from, its tough to see them being THAT much better than Bolton.  Might be worth a risk on Steinsson if he's available on the system.

Manuel Fernandes appears to be cleared and AJ should return to injury for Everton at Wigan - both are likely starters and decent potential investments.

  1. Gee, you guys are good! Now you're predicting upcoming injuries:
You wrote, "AJ should return to injury for Everton..."
Actually, that's not too far-fetched a call for a lot of players.
    Michael Owen, anyone?

  2. I think you mean David Murphy. He will be missed, but glad to see him in the EPL and not at Rangers or Celtic.

  3. Bit of a dilemma week with King Kev returning and the transfer window... Think I'm gonna stay with what I know rather than take a risk, though Shay Given for nearly free is definitely worth it.

  4. I've just seen this weeks Choose 'em or Lose 'em and I'm getting more and more convinced that the writer is trying to improve his team's standing by suggesting you drop all your top performers! It's an awful read.

  5. Is it just me, or does "Choose 'em..." just continue to get worse? There's no helping of reason along side their recommendations. Lose Ronaldo, based on a quaint rule of thumb and nothing more? Come on. Boys, are you contractually obligated to display that link?

  6. Robbie Keane, or Anelka?? Also... Cesc or Bentley??? If I go Bentley, J-Enrique w/Toon replaces Corluka in the rear. Given is my keeper.... though I have this feeling about Schwarzer and Boro this weekend that is radical, to say the least!! (2) - agreed - good to see the Hibee Murphy in the EPL... and not Rangers, in particular!! Murphy will do well in BRM.

  7. Newcastle could put out a team of donkeys (no jokes that they already do) this weekend, and STILL beat Bolton and their no strikers. 4-1 to the Toon, Owen to do the business as people will pass to his feet and not aim at his head from 75 yards away. Duff has to be an option as Keega won't do what Allardyce used to do and ignore wide midfielders for the sake of the long ball, even in two days I'll bet we play some good football.

As for the defending, your guess is as good as mine, but Given is my keeper at the price...

    Howay the lads!
