Our "weekly" roundtable discussion picking up on some of the themes from the MMM and Barn(es) Door Watch.
Session Start (Jeremy Spitzberg:Neal Thurman): Mon Jan 21 08:31:42 2008
[08:31] Jeremy Spitzberg: hmmm....
[08:31] Jeremy Spitzberg: qemm? [ed note: quien es muy macho?]
[08:32] Jeremy Spitzberg: mpet/nelsen or duff/taylor?
[08:32] Neal Thurman: interesting
[08:32] Jeremy Spitzberg: duff can't get worse, can he?
[08:32] Neal Thurman: don't NUFC play at Ars?
[08:32] Jeremy Spitzberg: y
[08:32] Neal Thurman: seems unlikely to be the key to unlocking his form
[08:32] Jeremy Spitzberg: nelsen @ast though
[08:32] Jeremy Spitzberg: which could be ugly
[08:33] Jeremy Spitzberg: esp with villa on a high after beating liv to nil
[08:33] Neal Thurman: lol
[08:33] Jeremy Spitzberg: what? ;-)
[08:34] Neal Thurman: just so long as Torres gets 5 SOTs and a few CWs along the way...
[08:34] Jeremy Spitzberg: lol
[08:34] Neal Thurman: I'm not greedy
[08:34] Jeremy Spitzberg: no
[08:34] Jeremy Spitzberg: just a jerk
[08:34] Neal Thurman: heh
[08:35] Jeremy Spitzberg: 50% of teams have torres
[08:35] Jeremy Spitzberg: bit stunned by that
[08:35] Jeremy Spitzberg: just a bit
[08:35] Jeremy Spitzberg: but still
[08:35] Neal Thurman: yeah, I would have guessed something more like 30%
[08:35] Neal Thurman: but he's exactly the type of player likely to be over-bought
[08:35] Neal Thurman: big club
[08:35] Neal Thurman: high flying reputation
[08:35] Neal Thurman: lots of goals
[08:35] Jeremy Spitzberg: big xfer
[08:36] Jeremy Spitzberg: lot of teams buy in week 1 and forget
[08:36] Neal Thurman: only serious fantasy managers are likely to pay attention beyond all of that - just imagine how over subscribed he'd be if Rafa hadn't rotated him for six weeks
[08:36] Jeremy Spitzberg: lol
[08:36] Jeremy Spitzberg: i'd have him
[08:36] Jeremy Spitzberg: so 50% plus 1
[08:37] Neal Thurman: lol
[08:58] Jeremy Spitzberg: well, probably not due to people buying and then ignoring their teams...
[08:58] Jeremy Spitzberg: malouda only on about 11% of teams
[08:59] Jeremy Spitzberg: and i would argue that he was the other big name/big club transfer
[08:59] Neal Thurman: right
[08:59] Neal Thurman: although 11% for someone who has produced squadoosh speaks to a certain amount of inertia
[08:59] Jeremy Spitzberg: but he never produced like torres after week 1
[08:59] Jeremy Spitzberg: right, but now we've established the inertial ceiling
[08:59] Jeremy Spitzberg: so to speak
[08:59] Neal Thurman: right
[09:00] Neal Thurman: probably more sicko LIV fans in the game than CHE
[09:00] Neal Thurman: (call that another 10%)
[09:00] Jeremy Spitzberg: then 30% for performance
[09:00] Jeremy Spitzberg: fair enough
[09:00] Neal Thurman: that's what I was thinking
[09:00] Neal Thurman: bummed about KRich...
[09:01] Jeremy Spitzberg: i am too
[09:01] Jeremy Spitzberg: but glad that you all have to spend 2 more bucks for a middie
[09:01] Jeremy Spitzberg: besides, having krich and cerny in my team...
[09:02] Jeremy Spitzberg: again...
[09:02] Jeremy Spitzberg: would have caused some temporal issues
[09:02] Jeremy Spitzberg: no telling what might have happened
[09:03] Neal Thurman: lol
[09:03] Neal Thurman: you sticking w/ Cerny?
[09:04] Jeremy Spitzberg: who knows
[09:04] Jeremy Spitzberg: still spurs
[09:04] Jeremy Spitzberg: but on the up
[09:04] Jeremy Spitzberg: not a great upcoming sched, iirc
[09:05] Neal Thurman: @EVE this coming weekend
[09:05] Jeremy Spitzberg: @eve, manu, @der
[09:05] Jeremy Spitzberg: yikes!
[09:05] Jeremy Spitzberg: sell! sell!
[09:05] Neal Thurman: :-)
[09:06] Jeremy Spitzberg: but for whom?
[09:06] Neal Thurman: I've got mine staked out :-)
[09:06] Jeremy Spitzberg: ?
[09:06] Neal Thurman: may the Schwartz be with you ;-)
[09:06] Jeremy Spitzberg: niemi @bol, ast, @boro, whu before manu
[09:07] Jeremy Spitzberg: schwarz still cheap thanks to derbyshire
[09:07] Neal Thurman: yup
[09:07] Neal Thurman: and home with WIG
[09:07] Jeremy Spitzberg: wig, @nuf, ful
[09:07] Neal Thurman: looks like a winner to me ;-)
[09:07] Jeremy Spitzberg: then @liv, red, @ast, @ars
[09:08] Jeremy Spitzberg: interesting ;-)
[09:08] Neal Thurman: at least through January
[09:08] Jeremy Spitzberg: and a precious $0.50 cheaper than cerny
[09:09] Neal Thurman: I think my squad is set for right now with the possible exception of Torres maybe getting subbed out...currently at Faddy, Torres, Elk, CRon, Malouda, BFDB, Bullard, Moko, Nelsen, Senderos, Schwartz
[09:09] Jeremy Spitzberg: my barn door put me at tevez, eds, elk, cron, floma, mpet, nolan, mok, nelsen, sagna, cerny
[09:27] Jeremy Spitzberg: btw... bfdb? bfsdb
[09:27] Jeremy Spitzberg: big f'ing stud
[09:27] Jeremy Spitzberg: he must really be looking forward to the capello era
[10:06] Neal Thurman: btw, nice to see that there is only one match on Super Bowl Sunday
[10:06] Neal Thurman: (and that its Ful/Villa)
[10:07] Jeremy Spitzberg: and those players are too poor/too exspensive to really worry about
[10:08] Neal Thurman: with the possible exception of Bullard :-)
[10:12] Jeremy Spitzberg: and/or villa's new right-back
[10:12] Jeremy Spitzberg: if they get one
[10:12] Jeremy Spitzberg: or marlon king
[10:12] Neal Thurman: would be nice - not sure how they missed out on Johnny Evans
[10:12] Neal Thurman: Marlon King and his gimpy knee?
[10:12] Jeremy Spitzberg: isn't evans a center back?
[10:12] Neal Thurman: nope
[10:12] Neal Thurman: right back
[10:13] Neal Thurman: or at least that's what he's been doing at ManYoo and SUN
[10:13] Jeremy Spitzberg: i guess i wan't paying close enough attention
[10:13] Jeremy Spitzberg: thought collins and mcshane were left and right full backs
[10:13] Neal Thurman: I happened to see his SUN debut :-)
[10:13] Jeremy Spitzberg: mcshane sucks, btw
[10:13] Jeremy Spitzberg: as does bianchi
[10:14] Neal Thurman: Bianchi = EdS? poacher but not much else?
[10:14] Jeremy Spitzberg: maybe
[10:14] Neal Thurman: just not getting much service
[10:14] Jeremy Spitzberg: they keep forcing eds wide though
[10:14] Jeremy Spitzberg: :-(
[10:14] Jeremy Spitzberg: trying to make a middie out of him
[10:14] Jeremy Spitzberg: wenger out-smarting himself?
[10:14] Jeremy Spitzberg: and killing my fantasy season in the process?
[10:14] Neal Thurman: they really should make a bid to get Bentley back at ARS
[10:15] Neal Thurman: admit that Hleb is only good when playing centrally
[10:15] Jeremy Spitzberg: and that eboue isn't going to cut it
[10:17] Neal Thurman: and that walcott isn't ready yet at either position

Posted by: zzzeclipse on Wed Jan 23 05:06AM | Report abuseinteresting to see k2 giving some head to brendtner in the middle of the field ... sorry, that sounds kinda dodgy innit
Posted by: littlecallix on Wed Jan 23 11:46AM | Report abuseI'd say Bentley is the best bet for consistency. If you take into account that he was off-form for the first 7/8 games of the season his average rating since then is really impressive. Brought in Given so I could afford him last week, just can't find a way to drop anyone this week so will have to take some negative points vs. Arsenal
Posted by: peterransom on Wed Jan 23 02:41PM | Report abuseAnyone got any opinions on Koumas - Have him at +4. Not sure that he is in Bruces overall plans for Wigan ? Not sure if I get rid of him that there is much that I can buy around that price [5m]. Any ideas ?
Posted by: rfcobrien on Wed Jan 23 05:08PM | Report abuseI think Koumas has just fallen out of favor with Bruce. I sold him and picked up Tim Cahil bit of a shame as I had Kous at +5 [and he'd pick up 7 points after coming on after 70 minutes]. Gonna sell Cahil and Pick up Mpet.
