Nelsen forced on to sidelines

Blackburn captain Ryan Nelsen faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of his niggling hamstring injury.

Nelsen has been struggling with the problem for the last few weeks and it was feared he might require an operation to correct the problem.

However, Blackburn are hopeful that a period of rest might sort out Nelsen's injury.

Rovers chairman John Williams confirmed that Nelsen does not need to go under the knife and that the New Zealand international will be out of action for a couple of weeks.

 ---

I've been holding on to Nelsen as a cheap defender - a la his teamate Mokoena.  He was twice the price, but that was still under 3.  And I see that while 10% of you have the Mok, only 5% have Nelsen.  And now, like Mokoena, Nelsen will be out of the lineup for a few weeks.  So he's officially DNH (do no harm) and while he was okay over the last few weeks that he's been in my team, he's been a nightmare most of the season.  Combine Rovers' inability to keep clean sheets with his three penalites conceeded, one own-goal, two yellows and two reds... well, maybe it's for the best that he's out of the side.

Now I have to decide if I'm happy carrying two defenders for 5 (the price of one crappy defender!) with a guarunteed zero return, or if I want to spend some cash - from where in the team is the question - to bring in a defender or two with a chance of earning points.

  1. When will Ivanovic (CHE) be listed? And is he even worth considering...?

  2. How about using a cheap roster spot on Wigan midfielder Palacios (3.07 units)? He is drawing raves from his manager and teammates, and appears to have earned a regular spot.....Wigan have perhaps the easiest EPL schedule over the next month, and you could free up some budget for an actual, real-life points-producing defender(!)....Just a thought......Cheers!

  3. Ivanovic is listed now in the database at 5.62 units. Also listed is Liverpool's Skrtel at 5.11......Who knows how they will be used by their respective managers, but with Chelsea in excellent form i see no reason for Grant to start playing games with his defenders. And Benitez is always a mystery.......

  4. I am considering gutting the midfield. You can read all about it in the roundtable -- http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/fantasy-football-blo
g/article/8298/. But I was looking at the Duffman rather than Palacios. Though maybe that's nothing but notalgia. Especially as NUFC ar @ARS next week.

  9. Yeah, I was all thinking I had pulled off a coup getting Arbeloa back in for cheap, and then I logged into the EPL fantasy league site and saw the little red square next to his name. Oh well. Bocanegra instead for a couple of weeks. Hopefully he'll steal a goal, or at least avoid doing anything really stupid, which is definitely a risk with him.

  10. Great job getting Nelsen with his D.C. United jersey on. It's not like he's been with Rovers for 2.5 seasons.
