Given Could Face Surgery

Tue Feb 26 04:22PM by Jeremy

Newcastle keeper Shay Given could need surgery to repair his latest groin injury.

The 31-year-old Republic of Ireland international failed to re-appear after the break in Saturday's 5-1 Premier League defeat to Manchester United as he had aggravated the problem he had suffered at Aston Villa a fortnight earlier.

Given has already been ruled out of this weekend's crucial visit of former club Blackburn to St James' Park, and there are fears that another operation is required after a string of similar problems.

The Rovers old boy is expected to see a specialist this week and the Evening Chronicle is reporting that, should he need surgery, his season could be over.

...

However, Keegan will at least be able to comfort himself with the knowledge that in Steve Harper, he has a more than able deputy.

And you thought the Mok was "The Enabler"!  Given at a buck would free up a lot of coin for Torres, Gerrard, etc.  Looking to field Carragher, Arbeloa, and Finnan?  Get Given at a buck.  Not sure what do do with MPet +7?  Get Given at a buck.  If your other choice is Reina... well, he's posted 7 negative weeks this season, 3 in the past 5!  That's a gamble.  You know what you're getting with Given for a buck.  Nothing.  Plus cash.  And that's potentially a very good thing.

Gambling makes it fun. Reina makes sense, for the gambler! Dump Petrov. Another gamble, but worth getting the points for the next three days. Lots of options at 5.5/6.5 (Nolan, for example).

I had that petrov dilemma, i had him at plus 7, but to keep him and sacrifice 3 games worth of points AND then there is the fact that he's not even in the Ronaldo league of gettin silly points per week... all that considered i had to end our relationship, it was a messy split with alot of tears on both sides but it had to be done... farewell friend

His price will come down enough for you to buy back in. You'll not get the +7 discount, of course...

over the rest of the season Mpet will more than make up for the points compared to the next best player costing 5-6 points. The only reason to drop him at that discount that i can see is if you have a lot of cash (ie you dont have Cron) and you need the spot in your team.

I am not buying into the get double week players this time. Nearly always back fires and Liverpool are a pretty poor team anyway.(For a top 5 club). Got Torres before price went up and may get a Liverpool defender but that will be it. Banking on quality one gamers this team.

http://www.lfconline.com/news/loadnews.asp?cid=TMNW&id=379548 just to screw everyones decision making process up. agger played the first half and skrtel the second. ironic that just above this story on the news page, it has a piece about rafa rotating less in the final few months of the season... with carra and sami fit, i wouldnt go with either of these guys, as they are very unlikely to feature for lengthy periods in both games. though i think agger is a good long term pick.

Point taken that Reina has been a gamble of late, but if you're playing the double this week, he's one of the only sure bets (apart from Torres and Gerrard) so I don't know why you would balk on him this week.
