Southgate Looks To Viduka

Sun Dec 10 02:44PM

Middlesbrough's Mark Viduka

Gareth Southgate is backing Mark Viduka to spark a Barclays Premiership revival at Middlesbrough.

The 31-year-old Australian's return from fractured toes gave his side a much-needed focal point as they survived a first-half mauling to fight back and snatch a point from Wigan.

That it was strike-partner Aiyegbeni Yakubu who eventually beat substitute goalkeeper Mike Pollitt after Mark Schwarzer had performed heroics at the other end could not diminish Viduka's contribution.

Southgate is betting on him, and maybe so should fantasy managers.  One thing we've noticed about Viduka over the years is his uncanny ability to score goals in anticipation of the transfer window.  Every August and every December he'll come up with a brace in one game and maybe a game-winning goal in another.  Then the window closes, he's stuck on the same team for another 6-months, and he promptly goes back to being more of a gravitational than a football force.

Just something to look out for over the next few weeks.

  3. Bullard just underwent his second knee op, same guy who did owens surgery if i remember correctly.
This was his quote, "If you saw the injury he had, you would think there would be no chance (of him playing again)".
I had a similar injury and it took about 9 months before my knee was even 80%. I feel for the lad, and we'll be lucky if we seem him before 2008.

  4. Are you sure??????? You allready overshadow few players, such as Joey Barton. This week you overshadowed Essien and Martins (who luckily i've picked). For the Chelsea match I think you've made a blunder on choosing Geremi (you should've stick with your rules on not choosing a defender that is placed as midfield yahoo). But overall keep on the good work, cheers
