Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo

I'm going to regret this.  Almost immediately, I'm sure.  But I sold CRon.

My fantasy team is stuck "mid-table" and as most teams (save for Spurs and Chelsea) only have 10 matches left there are fewer and fewer chances to gain ground on the leading teams.  Neal and I were comparing teams earlier this week and after the barn door, we were sharing 9 of 11 players.  Most likely that would mean another 10 point gain for Neal, right?.   And who are we kidding, the larger the difference, the larger Neal's likely gain.

But here's a chance to make up some ground and at this point in the season, I have to take it.  And selling CRon also meant a few more dollars to spend elsewhere.  I feel like if I talk about the specific players it will jinx them so we'll save the details for the MMM.  But for now, wish me luck, and help me look for dirt cheap players to help me buy CRon back next week.  A two-gamer... against Derby and Bolton!?!?!

Any chance that his value (and Rooney's) plummets?  Let's talk about the odds of that happening, and the best bargain basement player options, in this, your matchday open thread.

  1. CRon - a definite buy for next week.

  2. rooney has the best avg. for a forward....no chance for his value going down..same goes for ronaldo in midfield...its quite likely it'll go up by .50 or something....so people will have to really dig deep to have them for next week....maybe will have to settle for one of them...i'm at 8000 overall rank....haven't picked a man utd. player yet....don't plan on doing it either...too big a fan of chelsea....hopefully it'll start paying off for buying j.cole at 3.69 and ballack at 5.55 and sticking with them...

  3. Good bargains for this week and next(if u want to free up points for 2 match players)..
    1.Afonso Alves at 6.05
2.Shane long at 1.53(Mr. Mokena for strikers)
    3.Bendtner at 6.03

  4. i just think u wa so dumb to sell CRon and then start juggling to get over 6m with cheap useless players who will give half-a-pt or evn a negative. Stick with him. his place should remain untouchable for the rest of the season unless he does an Eduardo

  5. the other side of the coin is with manu facing Derby and Bolton, how much playing time will CRon and the Roon actually get? Saha /Fletcher combo for Derby I'm sure. Oh, and Anderson and Ukalalie are both double gamers next week and cost 4something.

  7. so i've been trying to work out how the pricing system works over the course of the season. i've noticed that generally if a player does not play in a given week, fluctuations are approx +/- 0.5. it's if they play but score much less than their avg that value crashes e.g. ron's cameo last week got him 4 but value dipped by 2.5. therefore the logic is to keep him. and any ground you make up this week will be lost over the next 9 weeks when you work with a cap of effectively 95.5.....

another note, CRon has not looked tired. Say you look at someone like cesc just after christmas, you could see a dip in form and he's still not recaptured that 2007 form in 2008 (bar tues night). I think Cron looks energetic and motivated to break records in terms of goals and go fling into the Euros......

    it's a toughie but i'm sticking!!

  9. (3) Long gives one far more than Mok. I have Babel now, but going "Long" may be a better option in the future! I am not on the Alves bus yet. Bendtner is the better option of the duo you mention. Guts - to sell CRon. Good luck! A combo of Lamps/Bentley/Gerrard and, perhaps Dunn/Andreason may work. (Andreason, at 5, if he plays - another bargain, no matter what Fulham do. Nolan is once again cheap, as well. Ditto Micheal Johnson...)

  12. (11) I'd keep him, too. But I also admire the risk of punting him to make up ground. That's what makes this fun! (Bentley/Andreason combo costs about the same, for example. Ditto Lamps/Palacios... unless you have Ronaldo @ +6...) I punted Tevez for Yaks. Now, I hve Yak @ +4. Pays to take risks sometimes. Sometimes you get burned (CCole/Mullins vs. Babel/Skertl last week.)

  13. Everyone seems to be selling Cron.
    So I kept him lol.
My mid field looks like: Ballack @ 7, Bullard @ +5, Cron @ + 6, JCole @ +4 and Fat Frank Lamps at cost because I bought him on the barn door [I got him for cheap!], then sold him when he got the red then cried a little when he got it rescinded and I had to buy him at his new inflated cost.
It's mostly in prep for the two gamers next week which I'm using chelsea as its easier to pick their players over Uniteds Mix-A-Midfield [and I figure Cron even as a sub is points over the people who sold and 'uprated' the rest of their squad].

  19. I can't believe you sold beckham. I move that the rules be amended to keep the BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE each year no matter what. It was Beckham, then Henry and now Cron. Don't see how you can make up ground without him. He pulls in more than his cost week in and week out.

    remember - KARMA. KAR.MA.

  21. PRob at 1.81 with a double next week and hope he breaks even or picks up a few points over the course of two? Reina's been good to me, but that 6 could be spent in attack. Keeper thoughts for next week? Oh, definitely watching the CHE and MAN situations.

  25. I refuse to pick Paul Robinson. He burned me last year when I had him (and when I dropped him for his replacement he scored a 75 yard goal)and he's burned me this year. Normally I'm all about the cheap keepers (ie Given, Kirkland) but with games at Man City and home to Chelsea, PRob could really score in the negative which would be a PRoblem.

  28. morning, all. i would guess the kusz misses one match. foster? heaton? prob is a nice option at keeper for the price, but the CHE match could be ugly. Question is do you get enough pts from him from the MAC match. Citeh can't score and I think it will be the final match of MPet's suspension.
