Fantasy Premier League

Matchday Open Thread

First things first... let's draw a line under last week.  Knew it was a risk but I was hoping that CRon would be rested and Rooney wouldn't.  And to afford that I had to gut down to Robbo.  It didn't work.  I'm trying to accept the outcome - being outscored two to one by many teams.  Not the smartest, no.  But it wasn't beyond the pale, was it?

So this week I'm going back to basics.  Still no CRon, but trying to buy players at home against stuggling opposition.  So welcome the "Premier League's top scorer over the last five years who is still in the Premier League" - Everton's Yakubu - a player who can score for on his day against a West Ham team that can conceed four on theirs.  Though I looked at BFAY, I didn't have the money, and surprisingly, Barry isn't too far behind and 5 cheaper.  So hopefully he can chip in at home to a road-shy Sunderland.  MPet comes back from suspension and into SGE's and my teams against struggling Bolton, even @Bolton.  And even though we never bet on or against them.  Unless we do.

Downing and Schwarzer come in for the weekly "v. Derby" picks.  And though I went back and forth over Tuncay and Aliadiere, I decided to go with the sentimental pick and get fellow Yank, Brian McBride.  Always been a fan of his, even though we sure rooted against him when his Crew would come to DC to play United.  Here's hoping he can nick a goal against Newcastle and we can ride this particular horse through the barn door and into their matchup with Derby next week.

Torres keeps his place.  No point selling him now even facing ManU, Everton, and Arsenal and Arsenal and Arsenal again in the League and Champions League.  To be honest, I'm very tempted to gut Torres to McFadden, another striker on a hot streak.  But I'm still chagrined by his being left on the bench for their Pompey match and can't bring myself to do it.

So that's the state of my world tonight.  Let us know what's up with you -- who you got, who you watching, and how are they doing for you -- in this, your matchday open thread.

Terry remaining as England captain? Do we really want a guy who a few days after the Croatia defeat was at a club and throwing up on the middle of the dancefloor??? Very professional. The England captain should be someone who is a proven leader and delivers in big games. We want England to win a cup tournament right? Who is the one English captain in the prem to have won all possible club cup competitions, and scored in each of the cup finals? Mr SG.......the only choice.

im sick to death of liverpool fans blaming the referee for their own teams stupidity and constant failures to beat utd.masch was brain dead and deserved to go. he had commited 3 fouls since getting his yellow card and was probably going to get sent off on the next one anyway.and above all people seem to have forgotten that liverpool were ONE NIL down when this happened anyway.so get over it and celebrate with the fact that ye can win 5 in a row against the week teams but when it comes up to the big 3 ye are just not good enough

Masch didn't cost the game. He acted an idiot and deserved to be punished (aren't we all sick of millionaires bringing down the game and picking up cards for dissent and tantrums and disrespect?), but he didn't cost the game. The reality is that ManU were more likely (note word choice) going to win this one. However, this is a game that could have been a 1-1 draw, and Masch cost 'Pool the chance at that by putting them a man down. Stupid and infantile. Really sick of the disrespect and entitlement shown this season especially. And yes, I would like it so that only the captain should speak to the refs. Otherwise, what's a captain for? Liverpool could have done with a point (Everton took 1) and the rest of the league would have liked to see ManU take 1 instead of 3. But the mouthing off and nastiness has got to stop. Let's not forget that this is a job for which these guys get paid. Would any of us not be punished for mouthing off to our bosses or superiors this way?
