    • FT And there is the full-time whistle!! What a dramatic first-leg and Chelsea have the lead. Second-leg is on Wednesday January 23rd join us for that.
    • 90+4 A great chance for Lescott to make amends as he is found on the left of the box but his shot is saved by Hilario.
    • 90+2 Chelsea have nicked a goal at the death!!! Wright-Phillips. A goal from nothing - Ballack with his back to goal just looped a ball up in the air and it looked like Lescott was just shadowing the ball out of play but little Wright-Phillips jumped above him to head in from close range. REPLAYS SUGGEST IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN AN OWN GOAL FROM LESCOTT
    • 90' Yakubu off - Anichebe on.
    • 89' Carvalho gets his head on the ball from the corner but it goes well wide.
    • 85' Five minutes to go in this first leg tie and you still feel that either side could nick a late goal.
    • 83 Interesting change from Chelsea - striker Pizarro off - right-back Paulo Ferreira on.
    • 81' Lescott scambles away for Everton after it looked as if Pizarro and then Alex would get shots away - Chelsea getting back on top though.
    • 79' Neville, who is on a yellow card, trips Malouda but no second booking for the former Manchester United man. Carsley gets his head on Ballack's powerful resulting free - ouch!
    • 78' Cahill gets his head on the resulting free kick and Johnson gets in first to take the knock down but he had no time to get the ball down and it goes wide as he is clattered by Hilario.
    • 76' The tackles are flying in now - we really have a spicy one developing. Belletti now booked for a foul on Lescott and the Everton defender was not happy about the challenge.
    • 72' The Chelsea fans want a penalty as Belletti is muscled out of it by Lescott but nothing illegal there in the referee's mind.
    • 69' McFadden with a brilliant run into the box from the left after a Yakubu back heal had put him away - from a tight angle he almost manages to score at the far post but his effort clips the post.
    • 66' Andy Johnson in the book for kicking the ball away.
    • 64' EVERTON ARE LEVEL YAKUBU!!! It came from McFadden's free kick - he curled it into the box and Hilario came out to punch it away but got nothing but air. Yobo then poked it back to Yakubu and despite a number of bodies in front of him the Nigerian fired a cracking half-volley into the top corner of the net.
    • 63' With moments of coming on Steve Sidwell goes in with a heavy tackle on Carsley. It ended with his studs on Carsley's leg but no card this time.
    • 61' Sidwell does come on with Joe Cole making way as the sacrificial lamb.
    • 59' Superb play by Wright-Phillips as he slids in to win the ball at midfield and then plays in Pizarro. The striker gets a low shot away but Howard gets down quick to save.
    • 57' Mikel will get a three match ban now - BUT - he will be away at the African Cup of Nations anyway - so not a DISASTER but what will it mean for this game? Looks like Sidwell is coming on.
    • 55' MIKEL SENT-OFF - a straight red for showing his studs at Neville. It looked harsh but we have seen referees give red cards for such tackles in the last few weeks - this changes things!
    • 54' Jagielka does well to throw his body in the way of a Pizarro shot.
    • 52' Cole now booked for a foul on Lescott down the left - a little harsh - Yobo just can't get his head on the resulting free-kick.
    • 49' Neville the thrid Everton man in the book as he crashes into Malouda - all Chelsea again in the early stages of the half - Ballack has just headed a tough chance wide.
    • 46' Chelsea start attacking as Everton back off and back off - Wright-Phillips is given room to shoot on the edge of the area but he fires straight at Howard.
    • 46' And we are back underway...no changes from either side.
    • HT And there is the half-time whistle - Chelsea in front and good value for the lead too.
    • 45' Belletti storms forward and plays in Pizarro - the Peru man had room to shoot but tries a one-two with the Brazilian but Lescott was able to track back and get in ahead of Belletti.
    • 44' Johnson wins a head from an Everton corner but he can't find the target. Everton's FIRST attempt on goal.
    • 42' Pizarro flicks on a long-throw but it just bounces a little too high for Ballack and under pressure from Neville he can't get a shot away.
    • 40' And for the first time there is almost quiet coming from the stands - the match is going through a drab phase.
    • 37' Good work down the left from Everton and Lescott is found inside the area but his low cross his gathered by a diving Hilario.
    • 34' Everton seem to have weathered the storm now and are looking to get back into this game.
    • 31' Chelsea are rampant at the moment - Wright-Phillips has had another shot blocked just wide with Hibbert booked for a foul in the build up.
    • 29' And from the free-kick Ballack fires a bullet around the wall and it JUST goes wide.
    • 28' Very nearly two for Chelsea as Cole hits Everton on the break, Jagielka fouls him on the edge of the box but Cole stays on his feet only for Howard to rush out and save. Fair play to the referee he played the advantage and then called back for the free once Howard saved.
    • 26' Chelsea hve the lead - Wright-Phillips!!! Great finish but poor defending from Everton. It came from a throw and then Malouda cut inside and was allowed to play the ball to Wright-Phillips in the box who had slipped behind Carsley. The winger had so much time and room that he was able to pick his spot and curl a lovely strike into the corner of the net off the post.
    • 22' Great whipped ball into the box from Cole, Cahill can do nothing but head it wide for a corner.
    • 21' The game has entered its first quiet patch although both sets of fans are still signing.
    • 18' McFadden puts in a free-kick, Yakubu gets his head on it AND....it goes near the corner flag!
    • 15' Chelsea are just starting to get a little on top now - with Michael Ballack getting more and more involved.
    • 13' Again the high tempo start to this match continues - but neither keeper has had to make a save yet. Belletti is the latest to fire a shot high and wide.
    • 11' Everton are allowed to break again as Pizarro gives the ball away cheaply but Yakubu eventually tries to do too much on the edge of the box and loses possession.
    • 9' Carsley needs to calm down - he know goes heavy on Wright-Phillips and some referees might have sent him off.
    • 8' Carsley is well up for this match - a little TOO much though - he is booked for showing Malouda his studs.
    • 8' Nice open start to this game - Joe Cole is the latest to have a shot blocked by a diving Lee Carsley after he was well set up by Belletti.
    • 7' Decent counter attack by Everton and Neville is found in space down the right but he can't deliver a cross into the box.
    • 5' Cahill gets good contact on a shot from outside the box but it hit a Chelsea body before getting close to Hilario.
    • 3' At the other end the ball nearly sits up nicely for Wright-Phillips but he screws a half-volley well wide.
    • 2' First chance to attack comes for Everton as Yakubu tries to play in Johnson - Hilario just gets their first there and then spills the ball as the players collide. Free-out is given.
    • 1' And we are underway - it looks like Chelsea's decision to lower ticket prices was a good call - can't see too many empty seats.
    • - For Everton - six changes from the side that lost to Oldham in the FA Cup, with Howard, Neville and Cahill amongst those returning. Still no Mikel Arteta though.
    • - No return for Cech or Cole but there is a first appearance for over two months for Florent Malouda.
    • - Welcome to Stamford Bridge for the first leg of tonight's first leg Carling Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Everton. Kick off is at 19.45 British time - find tonight's teams below.
