    Time:90'
    • Darlington
    • Leeds United
    • 90 FULL TIME Enoch Showunmi's goal takes Leeds through to the second round of the Carling Cup after defeating Darlington 1-0.
    • 90 Andy Robinson wins a free-kick and Leeds are seconds away from the second round.
    • 90 It is Darlington's first corner of the game and Mark Bower heads wide when he should have scored! A crucial miss.
    • 90 Leeds look to waste a bit of time by replacing Robert Snodgrass with Andy Robinson.
    • 90 We are into the first of four minutes of added time!
    • 89 Leeds are holding onto their one-goal lead and look to retain possession at every opportunity, with Darlington frustrated.
    • 85 Jonathan Howson goes so, so close with a superb curling effort from 20 yards. At the other end Dowson sees a low effort saved by Higgs.
    • 83 Man of the match Mark Grella is replaced by Neil Kilkenny as Grayson looks to see the game out.
    • 82 Windass takes the free-kick himself but his effort flies two metres over the bar - not very impressive from the former Hull man.
    • 82 Veteran striker Dean Windass wins a free-kick off Michael Doyle and this could be a good opening for Darlo...
    • 81 Dowson is furious to be given offside when attempting to chest down a long ball from Lumsdon, and rightly so. Replays suggest he was level and it was a good opening for Darlington.
    • 79 Curtis Main, who made his league debut for Darlington at the age of just 15, replaces Lee Thorpe.
    • 77 Darlington clearly sense their participation in the competition could be coming to an end and are playing with more urgency now. Mark Bower demosntrates as much when shooting wide from 20 yards.
    • 76 Darlington remove captain Steve Foster and replace him with Matt Plummer.
    • 75 Lee Thorpe gets a flick-on to a long pass but Windass cannot wrap his foot around the ball and his shot goes well wide.
    • 73 Potential matchwinner Showunmi is taken off by Grayson and Luciano Becchio comes on for a 17-minute cameo.
    • 71 Now it is Bradley Johnson's turn to have a shot at goal as he rifles one over from 25 yards. The League One side have completely dominated in terms of clear-cut chances tonight.
    • 69 Showunmi again produces a terrible touch as he fails to control a high ball and Leeds will rue that earlier chance should they fail to kill off this game.
    • 65 Enoch Showunmi wastes a glorious chance! That man Grella slipped in Howson with a lovely through ball and when the midfielder squared for Showunmi, he shanked the ball horribly with his right boot. That was rank.
    • 63 Goalscorer Showunmi requires treatment after a collision but he looks okay. It takes a lot to fell that giant of a man.
    • 61 David Dowson is flagged offside before chipping the ball over Higgs. He could well have timed that run a lot better though.
    • 59 Colin Todd replaces Jeff Smith with his assistant manager, Dean Windass, as Darlington look to claw their way back into the game.
    • 54 GOAL FOR LEEDS! Enoch Showunmi gets his toe to the ball and pokes it past Knight to put his side 1-0 in front. Grella looked lively again and passed back for Snodgrass, who delivered a wicked cross that found the boot of the big striker.
    • 51 Grella is in the thick of things again as he finds space in the box following some nice skill and squares for Bradley Johnson who rattles his shot against the bar!
    • 50 Grella shows good imagination as he flicks the ball up with his back to goal and then sends a volley wide of the post. It was a bit like Thierry Henry's goal against Manchester United all those years ago, but not as good obviously.
    • 49 It should be said that this has been a very encouraging performance from Darlington. Colin Todd has built a whole new team over the summer and they have acquitted themselves very well. Can they take Leeds to extra time, or even penalties tonight?
    • 46 Leeds midfielder Jonathan Howson looks to inject some energy into the game just seconds after the restart and carries the ball 15 yards before dribbling a poor shot at goal.
    • 46 Darlington get the second half started!
    • 45 Andy Hughes blasts one over the bar for Leeds and that is half-time, 0-0 at the Darlington Arena.
    • 45 Mark Bower robs Snodgrass in the box with a superb sliding tackle and we will have two minutes of added time in the first half.
    • 45 Thorpe looks a bit groggy after receiving treatment and Darlington do have player/assistant manager extraordinaire Dean Windass on the bench should they require him.
    • 43 That is a poor challenge from Lee Thorpe as he flies into his man. Leeds are awarded a free-kick and Snodgrass and Hughes work it nicely. Knight attemps to come and claim a hanging cross but instead clatters Thorpe, with Grella firing the loose ball high and wide.
    • 40 The Leeds faithful are in vocal form tonight as their side look to maintain their record of not falling at the first hurdle in the League Cup since 2002.
    • 39 Robert Snodgrass is flagged offside as he looks to run onto a high ball.
    • 37 Grella is halted in his tracks by a thunderous challenge from Arnison and Darlington regain possession.
    • 35 A wonderful move involving Dowson, Jamie Chandler and Lee Thorpe ends with Chandler making a mess of his shot from ten yards out. It was lovely, flowing football but Thorpe may have been better off shooting himself instead of cutting back to his team-mate. A waste.
    • 33 Lumsdon puts a lot of backspin on a long, floated free-kick into the box but Lee Thorpe can only direct the ball off target with a header.
    • 31 Well this hasn't quite been the start to the Carling Cup first round that we hoped it might. Doyle's volley aside there has been very little to get the heart racing and it is deservedly 0-0.
    • 30 Knight is on hand again to catch a cross from Grella and Leeds appear to be on top at present.
    • 28 Michael Doyle produces an excellent volley from 20 yards out which Knight can only parry. Showunmi loosd to snaffle out the rebound but a combination of defender and goalkeeper blocks his effort. It really was a stunning attempt from Doyle.
    • 25 Leeds look a bit toothless with Beckford out injured. He scored both goals in the weekend's 2-1 win over Exeter City and it remains to be seen whether the Yorkshire side will keep hold of him, even if Grayson is adamant they will.
    • 23 Chris Lumsdon attempts to play a high ball with his studs up and connects with Leeds midfielder Michael Doyle. Ouch. The former Coventry man is fine to continue though.
    • 21 Dowson produces a niceheaded touch to evade his marker in the box but Higgs is alert to rush out and collect before the young striker can get a shot away.
    • 20 While we have in lull in play, here is one for you fact fans out there. Did you know that Darlo manager Colin Todd was named as PFA Players' Player of the Year in 1975?
    • 17 Now it is Paul Arnison's turn to delvier the ball from the right but again Higgs is there to collect with ease. The Leeds keeper has not been tested yet and Colin Todd will be hoping to rectify that soon.
    • 15 Jeff Smith whips in a free-kick from the right wing but his delivery has too much on it and Shane Higgs leaps to catch in the Leeds goal.
    • 14 Leeds defender Lubomir Michalik feels his right foot after being caught while making a clearance. He appears to be fine though and play continues.
    • 11 Grella attempts to find Showunmi with a flicked pass from eight yards out but the ball is cut out. A shot may have been the better option there.
    • 10 Leeds have been the better of the two sides in the opening ten minutes but Darlo look far from overawed against their League One opponents and are playing some nice stuff.
    • 7 American striker Mike Grella looks lively up front for Leeds but his low effort is blocked and Darlington keeper Knight collects with ease.
    • 6 Paul Huntingdon gets a header all wrong despite being unmarked to meet a Leeds corner from the left that is flicked on by a Darlington player.
    • 5 Nice effort from Robert Snodgrass as the ball drops perfectly for a volley but his hanging effort flies wide of the left-hand post.
    • 3 Darlington striker David Dowson, on loan from Sunderland, causes Jason Crowe problems when racing down the left but he loses his footing and the chance passes.
    • 2 Giant Leeds striker Enoch Showunmi takes possession of the ball inside the box but his shot is weak and low. Saved easily by David Knight.
    • 1 KICK OFF! Leeds get us underway at the Darlington Arena.
    • 19.42 We are just minutes away from kick-off at the Darlington Arena and the teams are in the tunnel. Knockout cup football on August 10? Bring it on.
    • 19.35 The team news is intriguing from a Leeds perspective with striker Jermaine Beckford missing out. Simon Grayson insists he is sidelined with a minor injury but whispers will start given Beckford has been linked with an exit in recent weeks. Darlington: Knight, Arnison, Bower, Foster, Miller, Gary Smith, Lumsdon, Jeff Smith, Chandler, Thorpe, Dowson. Subs: Liversedge, Plummer, Windass, Bennett, Main, Riley, Convery. Leeds: Higgs, Crowe, Michalik, Huntington, Hughes, Snodgrass, Howson, Doyle, Johnson, Showunmi, Grella. Subs: Ankergren, Kilkenny, Becchio, Sheehan, Robinson, White
    • 19.32 Welcome to our live coverage of Darlington v Leeds as the Carling Cup gets underway for the new season. Leeds, winners of the competition in 1968, will be looking to avoid a shock defeat to their League Two opponents.
