    • 90+4' The full-time whistle goes and Liverpool are through to the fourth round of the Carling Cup with a 1-0 win that is harsh on Leeds.
    • 90+3' Gerrard blasts the ball at goal but Higgs pulls off the save. Time is almost up though...
    • 90' There'll be four minutes of added time to be played...
    • 90' Final change for Liverpool. Skrtel takes the place of Babel.
    • 90' Steven Gerrard goes for a shot from an impossible angle and it brushes the side netting.
    • 89' Simon Grayson makes his final change. Showunmi replaces Doyle.
    • 88' Babel turns Kisnorbo and blasts a shot that goes just over the bar.
    • 87' Johnson fires in a cross but Glen Johnson is as cool as you like and just chests it back to Cavalieri.
    • 86' Aurelio takes the kick but it deflects off Crowe and goes over the bar.
    • 84' Kisnorbo leans into Babel on the edge of the area and Liverpool have a free-kick in a very dangerous position...
    • 82' Third and final change for Leeds. Mike Grella replaces Becchio.
    • 81' A long ball forward from Howson sets Beckford away but he can't stretch far enough to bring the ball under control.
    • 80' Liverpool are looking a lot more comfortable now.
    • 79' Leeds make their second substitution. Neil Kilkenny replaces Hughes.
    • 78' Stevie G is coming on for Liverpool. David Ngog is the man to make way.
    • 77' Beckford comes off second best in a challenge with Kgyriakos but feels it should have been a free-kick.
    • 76' Johnson fires in a shot but it's straight at Cavalieri.
    • 75' The stuffing, not surprisingly, has been knocked out of the hosts. They don't deserve to be losing.
    • 72' First change for Liverpool. Johnson replaces Degen at right back. The Swiss hasn't had a bad game but Johnson might help put this game to bed.
    • 69' Degen's cross is missed by Ngog and no-one is able to capitalise for Liverpool.
    • 66' GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL! Ngog gives the visitors a lead they don't deserve. Mascherano's mishit shot was controlled by the striker who tucked his strike into the bottom corner.
    • 64' ANOTHER CHANCE FOR LEEDS! Beckford's acrobatic attempt with his back to goal is just too high.
    • 62' You reap what you sow! Mascherano lands awkwardly after challenging for a ball. The midfielder's in some pain.
    • 60' As well he might try and look innocent! Replays show the midfielder turned and gave Beckford a clout on the back of the head. The Argentine would have been in big trouble if Alan Wiley had seen that.
    • 59' Beckford is down in a heap, while Mascherano walks away whistling innocently!
    • 57' Doyle volleys well over after Snodgrass's free-kick was only half cleared. It might even have gone out of the ground!
    • 55' Kyrgiakos charges down a shot by Howson and the ball is back in the arms of Cavalieri.
    • 54' CHANCE FOR BECKFORD! A long ball down the pitch by Higgs sees the striker get in between Kyrgiakos and Carragher but he pokes his shot too close to Cavalieri.
    • 52' Spearing fires high and wide after being teed up by Riera on the edge of the area.
    • 51' Degen gets away from Hughes but not Michalik who clears for a corner.
    • 49' Snodgrass and Crowe combine down the right, but the latter's cross was not aimed well enough for Beckford and Liverpool clear.
    • 48' Kisnorbo is there yet again to clear with his head after Degen had got away down the right.
    • 47' Becchio attempts an ambitious effort from the edge of the area with his left foot but it's some way wide.
    • 46' Riera gets away down the right but Kisnorbo defends his area well.
    • 45' There are no personnel changes, but Babel and Riera have switched sides for the visitors.
    • 45' We're back out for the start of the second half. Liverpool to get the game back underway.
    • 45+1' It's half-time at Elland Road. The match is goalless but it might easily have been the home side in the lead. A disallowed goal in the 13th minute is the first half's major talking point.
    • 45' There'll be just one minute of added time to be played.
    • 45' Babel's cross from the right is just about cleared by the Leeds defence.
    • 44' Great save Higgs! Riera powers a header at goal from Aurelio's free-kick but Higgs reacts superbly, diving to his right to push the ball away.
    • 43' Yellow peril! Crowe goes into the book now after a tackle on Ngog.
    • 41' Kygriakos takes down Becchio on the halfway line when the attacker looked to break away. A crude challenge and a deserved yellow card.
    • 40' Johnson and Degen square up to one another after a clash. Wiley has to keep the peace.
    • 38' Becchio takes a shot from distance but it curls well wide of goal.
    • 36' Aurelio's free-kick sails over the head of everybody.
    • 35' Crowe's cross from the right goes out of play but it's more good approach play from the hosts.
    • 33' Liverpool look tidy in possession but have yet to test Higgs in the Leeds goal.
    • 32' Great combination play between Beckford and Snodgrass sees the latter aim a cross to the back post. Cavalieri misses the ball, but Degen is there in the nick of time to head away.
    • 30' Half-chance for Liverpool. Babel runs forcefully at Leeds' backtracking defence but, as is so often the case with the Dutchman, the final ball is lacking. His cross/shot is straight at Higgs.
    • 28' Leeds are defending very well so far...
    • 26' Spearing goes down on the edge of the area appealing for a free-kick after the slightest of nudges from Becchio. Nothing doing.
    • 24' Becchio fires wide from distance after getting the better of Carragher.
    • 23' Alan Wiley has a word with Johnson but no sign of a yellow card. Degen appears okay to continue.
    • 23' There's a concern for Liverpool as Degen limps away from a challenge by Johnson.
    • 22' Liverpool are patient in possession but a wasted pass from Babel sees the attack break down.
    • 21' Snodgrass has made a good start to the game for Leeds down the right.
    • 19' Beckford is still complaining about the goal that wasn't.
    • 18' Ngog heads wide after Riera's nod across goal finds the Frenchman six yards out.
    • 16' Spearing has a shot deflected wide for a corner to Liverpool.
    • 14' It's a big let off Liverpool. Beckford was onside from Michalik's header. It was Becchio's ill-advised touch that was Leeds' undoing.
    • 13' The inquest continues but it appears that Becchio's needless touch - the ball was already goalbound - has seen the goal chalked off for offside.
    • 12' GOAL DISALLOWED! Michalik heads down a corner and Beckford gets a touch in front of Cavalieri to turn the ball past the keeper. Becchio is on the line to apply the finish. Leeds celebrate but the flag is up!
    • 11' Very very good chance for Leeds! Michael Doyle is plum centre of goal but heads wide from eight yards. It was a great ball in from Snodgrass.
    • 10' Riera readies a shot but Snodgrass tackles back to thwart the Spaniard.
    • 8' Mascherano tries to release the marauding Dossena down the left but Crowe is there to clear.
    • 6' Babel's kick is punched clear by Higgs.
    • 6' Babel wins a corner for Liverpool and the big boys are up.
    • 4' Mascherano's needless concession of possession draws ironic cheers from Leeds' supporters. A Reds fan might retort that the home fans should be used to that kind of football in League One.
    • 3' Babel's cross into the area is dangerous but Degen fouls Howson in his attempt to reach the ball and it's a free-kick to Leeds.
    • 2' Beckford goes down in the area after a tangle with Jamie Carragher. A very hopeful penalty appeal that is quite rightly waved away.
    • 2' Needless to say that both teams are in their traditonal colours.
    • 1' And we're off! Beckford nudges the ball to Snodgrass and we have kick-off.
    • - The two teams emerge out on to the pitch to a raucous welcome.
    • - The Eye of the Tiger is blaring out in the stadium. Focus lads, focus!
    • - It looks like Liverpool are going to line up with Albert Riera supporting David Ngog in attack.
    • - 21,000 were in attendance for Leeds' win at home to Gillingham on Saturday. Elland Road will be close to its 39,000 capacity this evening. An occasion to savour for the long-suffering fans of the League One side.
    • - 15 minutes to go until kick-off and it's a throw back for Elland Road as the League One side resume a Premier League rivalry from yesteryear.
    • - Alan Wiley, who was last seen on our television screens joking with Sir Alex Ferguson after Man United's late, late derby winner - an act that is tantamount to a public lynching as far as both sets of supporters at Elland Road are concerned - is the referee in charge of tonight's match.
    • - LEEDS LINE-UP: Higgs, Crowe, Kisnorbo, Michalik, Hughes, Howson, Doyle, Johnson, Snodgrass, Beckford, Becchio. Subs: Ankergren, Naylor, Prutton, Kilkenny, Grella, Robinson, Showunmi.
    • - While Rafa Benitez has made nine changes to his team, opposite number Simon Grayson is not surprisingly going with a full-strength line-up.
    • - LIVERPOOL LINE-UP: Cavalieri, Dossena, Kyrgiakos, Carragher, Degen, Aurelio, Mascherano, Spearing, Riera, Babel, Ngog. Subs: Reina, Johnson, Gerrard, Torres, Voronin, Plessis, Skrtel.
    • - The teams are in and the big news as far as Liverpool are concerned is that 20-year-old Jay Spearing starts in central midfield, alongside Javier Mascherano Jamie Carragher captains the side in the absence of the benched Steven Gerrard.
    • - As we await team news from Elland Road, Leeds supporters will no doubt be casting their mind back to their last home win against The Reds. It came in 2000 with a 4-3 win in which Mark Viduka scored all four goals.
    • - Good evening and welcome to tonight's live commentary for Leeds United v Liverpool in the third round of the Carling Cup.

Licking Foot Club fan say the Man Utd buy the ref for the game again Man City but now clearly Rafa already booked all the ref and assistant for that match cause they afraid to losing again division 1 club and mascherano should be punish as did with adebayor when he stamp on the face of van persie....and i know a 100% the Licking Foot Club fan dont agree with me..cause they are the loser football club all time....and what that big fat Spaniard action now when his player do that thing...big mouth rafa become silence because he already licking mascherano foot, he afraid that mescherano will ran to barca next transfer window...

  7. How could the referee miss Mascherano's blatant smack across the back of Beckford's head with his arm as the television replay shows that he had a clear view of what happened and yet he totally ignores what had occured and allows play to continue. By all accounts Mascherano should have be red carded and sent off instead he is allowed to stay on the pitch when Liverpool scored when they should have been down to ten (10) men and most likely would not have won the match.
The referee concerned should be banned from acting as an official in any capacity ie - referee, assistant referee etc for the next six (6) games to teach him a lesson the same as players who are red carded etc have to face as disciplinary action brought against them by the FA'
Apart from the above the referee also disallowed Leed's an apparently valid goal and this also has caused them to lose out to Liverpool.
It is about time the FA realised that these human errors, mistakes, or whatever you want to call them cause untold harm and problems to managers, players and fans alike and now is the time to introduce modern day technology into the game the same way as it has been introduced and is utilised fully in other sports such as Rugby, Cricket and Tennis where if there is a query raised then an action replay can be viewed and the correct decision be made thus eliminating any human error from the equasition. So with that in mind let's move forward into the 21st Century and not remain still in 20th Century.as far as Football is concerned

  11. After that thug Mascherano thumped Beckford in the second half Leeds never regained the same fluidity in their game . Strangely the same linesman who had a clear view of the Leeds goal and raised his flag to disallow it had with the referee an equally good view of Mascherano's thuggery - the flag stayed down and no action was taken. When will we ever have decent officials in such important games ? John
