  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • Manchester United
    • Wolverhampton Wanderers
    • - THAT'S IT! No six minutes this time and United hold on to a 1-0 win despite playing over an hour with 10 men.
    • 90+3' De Laet has a shocker of a shot that goes out for a throw!
    • 90+2' Into the last minute and Neville of all people piling forward!
    • 90+1' Gibson robs Milijas and has a shot, but it's straight at Hahnemann.
    • 90' There will be a MINIMUM of three minutes of added time. Fans chant 'We want six'.
    • 90' Into time added on now and how much will there be one wonders??
    • 89' CHANCE! Josh King gets onto the long ball and hammers the shot at Hahnemann, who makes the save!
    • 87' Doyle has a go after latching onto a flick on from Maierhofer, but Kuszczak makes the save.
    • 85' Another corner for Wolves, but again it's not good enough to threaten the United back line.
    • 83' Milijas with the corner for Wolves, but it fails to find an old gold shirt and that is cleared. Wolves on top in terms of possession, but no end product yet.
    • 81' Josh King is on for United in place of Welbeck.
    • 79' CHANCE! Elokobi with the cross from the left and it finds Doyle, whose volley goes wide!
    • 77' Kightly is off and Keogh is on for Wolves.
    • 75' Doyle has a go for Wolves on the edge of the area and Kuszczak has to make a save diving to his left.
    • 73' Kightly penalised for a studs up challenge on Carrick, who looks to have a bit of a hamstring strain judging from his body language.
    • 71' Valencia and Welbeck link up nicely there and in the end the shot comes in from Gibson, but that's a weak one and easy for Hahnemann.
    • 69' Owen is off now for United, who bring on Valencia.
    • 65' Doyle is on for Ebanks-Blake for Wolves
    • 66' GOAL!! WELBECK SCORES! Carrick plays the pass into Owen, who delivers a deft through ball to Welbeck and the youngster notches in style!!
    • 64' United counter and from Nani's cross the ball hits the post off Hahnemann and Welbeck can't get the rebound!
    • 63' Wolves are set to bring on Kevin Doyle to pep things up a bit in attack. Henry gets in for Wolves, but Brown does enough to hold him off at the expense of a corner, which is cleared.
    • 61' It's fair to say it's not been a classic so far. United down the right again with Nani there, but his ball is too high for Welbeck.
    • 59' Nani breaks free down the right after beating Elokobi, but can't find the right ball. United do get a corner, but it's cleared.
    • 57' Gibson with a half chance for United after good work from Welbeck. Gibson hits the shot wide though, although not by much.
    • 56' Wolves not really going for it against the 10 men at the moment and United have just Owen up front more or less on his own now.
    • 53' Elokobi now with the cross and Kuszczak comes to claim, getting a whack from Maierhofer in the process.
    • 52' When the corner comes in there's a chance for Berra, but with Brown in attendance he puts it over from six yards!
    • 51' Chance for Wolves, who have a man over and in the end Kightly's cross is put behind for a corner by Brown.
    • 50' Gibson comes forward down the left, but his cross is too close to Hahnemann.
    • 47' United have the first attack of the half, but it loses its impetus after Welbeck and Nani fail to combine and Owen in the end is offside.
    • 46' Back live and Wolves have brought Milijas on for the second half in place of Castillo.
    • - That's the end of the first half action at Old Trafford. 0-0 here, but United reduced to 10 men after Fabio's sending off. Back with more soon..
    • 44' CHANCE! And it's Jones after a slice from Neville! He's all on his own in the area but he can't find the finish!
    • 43' Kuszczak doesn't get there and Wolves have three at the far post, but the ball is cleared by the United defence.
    • 42' Corner for Wolves after Ebanks Blake threatens..
    • 41' Elokobi perhaps fortunate not to be booked there for a wild hack at Nani.
    • 40' Welbeck has a go from outside the box, but that gets a deflection and is easy for Hahnemann.
    • 39' Nani again down the right and when the ball breaks to Carrick on the edge of the area his shot hits Craddock.
    • 37' The sending off hasn't changed the pattern of play much, if at all. United still with all the possession and Wolves looking to break through Kightly and Ebanks Blake.
    • 34' CHANCE! Great cross from Neville on the right and Owen is there, but his header from close range lacks power. Good chance that for United.
    • 33' Hahnemann is too casual again there and almost lets Nani in as he delays over a back pass.
    • 31' Macheda is off and de Laet is on for United after that red card for Fabio.
    • 30' So, Wolves have the free kick just outside the area and it's JOnes who takes it and Kuszczak has to make the save!!
    • 28' RED CARD!! Drama here! Kightly breaks free and when Fabio slips he takes Kightly out and because he's the last man Fabio is OFF!!
    • 25' Nani feeds Gibson, who has a go from range and it goes over the bar by about a yard in the centre of goal.
    • 23' United allow Jones space in midfield and he gets all the way to the edge of the area and has a shot, but he doesn't get the power behind it and Kuszczak makes the save.
    • 22' Owen and Nani combine, but again Nani's final ball isn't good enough.
    • 21' Owen links up with Welbeck and has the shot, but he's offside.
    • 20' Nani takes it, but it hits the wall and is deflected away to safety.
    • 19' Gibson plays Owen in and when the ball is played infield the ball catches Henry and United have a free kick.
    • 18' Nice play from Kightly who almost links up with Maierhofer, but United just get a body in the way and come away with the ball.
    • 15' Nani in a good position on the edge of the area tries the shot, but it hits the Wolves defender and bounces away to safety.
    • 12' CHANCE! And it's Ebanks Blake with the shot from just outside the area and it's only just over the bar!!
    • 10' Gibson loses out to Ebanks Blake and Wolves are almost in, but Ebanks Blake can't find Kightly.
    • 9' Nani skins Elokobi and is in the clear down the right, but Nani gets the cross all wrong. Good chance there for United.
    • 8' Hahnemann almost gets himself into trouble trying to flick a back pass away, but he recovers.
    • 7' Kightly gets forward for Wolves and Elokobi with the long throw into the box, but United get it clear.
    • 6' United stroking it around nicely early on and Wolves already are penned in their own half other than the odd counter attack.
    • 5' Brown has to be fast there to rob the tall Wolves striker Maierhofer.
    • 3' It's cleared and United try and get Macheda clear through the middle. Wolves tidy up, but United come again through Fabio.
    • 2' Hahnemann boots it forward for Wolves from a free kick and they get an early corner.
    • 1' We're underway! And it's United who kick off and go on the attack with Welbeck.
    • - The teams are taking to the field at Old Trafford and we'll be underway shortly.
    • - Tonight's ref, who will doubtless be as accurate as possible on the injury time, is Peter Walton (Northants).
    • - And for Wolves: Hahnemann, Foley, Berra, Craddock, Elokobi, Kightly, Castillo, Henry, David Jones, Ebanks-Blake, Maierhofer. Subs: Ikeme, Keogh, Halford, Milijas, Zubar, Hill, Doyle.
    • - Right, it's in and the Man Utd team is as follows: Kuszczak, Neville, Brown, Jonathan Evans, Fabio Da Silva, Welbeck, Carrick, Gibson, Nani, Owen, Macheda. On the bench are: Amos, Ferdinand, Tosic, Valencia, De Laet, King, Eikrem.
    • - Still waiting for the official team sheet to filter through, but we have time as it's an 8pm kick off this evening..
    • - For Wolves, star winger Michael Kightly is set to make his first start of the season after injury and former Man United striker Sylvan Ebanks Blake is also involved.
    • - Michael Owen gets just his second start for United, who also select Wes Brown and Polish keeper Tomasz Kuszczak. Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck and Nani also start.
    • - Team news is in and Sir Alex Ferguson has named a completely different team to the side that beat Manchester City at the weekend.

  3. Man u's b team still had 8 full internationals in it - when are people going to understand that!!!

Wolves fans will agree we are a good team that has earned the right to play in the premiership, not that they are a premiership side... IF wolves are still there in 3 seasons then i think you can start calling them a premiership side...

Remeber 8 matches ago, and nobody in the same league could touch wolves (Champs with a week to go!!!)

So - to all the none fans, who just want to swear in $£"% stange letters - 1 - think about the game of football, not you own self importance (man u were going to charge 41quid for a seat last night!") - rip off!

  5. Apologies Man U! I was far to hasty with my comments last night during the match. With hindsight, Man U fielded a very good team. They had anticipated what they would have to do against Wolves (even with 10 men) and the team changes that this involved was an opportunity for an ignoramus like me to see what 'depth' United possess.
Very well done. You may retain this Cup with all your reserves waiting in the wings?
