BATE Borisov

  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • Juventus
    • BATE Borisov
    • 90' That's it. Full-Time. 0-0. The game opened up a bit in the second half, but considering that neither side had much to play for, the result comes as no suprise. Juventus will qualify as group winners, while BATE Borisov finish bottom of the group with only two points.
    • 90' A chance for BATE to snatch it at the end. Manninger organises his wall for a free-kick about 25 yards out. Nekhaychik goes for goal and although he strikes it well enough it goes high and wide and doesn't trouble Manninger.
    • 90' Castiglia will get 2 minutes worth of added time to strut his stuff as he comes on in place of Nedved, who is applauded off by the home fans.
    • 88' Ermakovich comes on in place of Kryvets as BATE make their final change of the night. One last ditch effort to get those six goals?
    • 87' Juve look ready to make another change. Simone Esposito will replace the Giovinco, who will probably still be thinking about his miss from the penalty spot.
    • 82' Del Piero gets his head onto a long cross-field ball by Marchionni, he complains that he was being held back but the referee is having none of it. Although he wasn't impeded, the great Italian has had a real impact since coming on.
    • 80' Real chance for Juventus. Marchionni is relseased down the right via a delightful Del Piero backheel and Marchionni repays the favour by crossing to Del Piero whose header is well saved by Verenko. Great stuff by the Italians.
    • 78' Bliznyuk shows the sort of skill that's seen him bag 16 domestic goals this year, with a lovely turn and an instinctive poke at goal with the outside of his right foot which just drifts wide.
    • 74' This game is really starting to open up. BATE are starting to push for those six goals, while Del Piero is starting to feature more prominently for the home side.
    • 72' BATE appeal for a penalty and the ball did strike the hand of Mellberg. It was probably ball to hand, but the Belarussian side are convinced they should have had a penalty.
    • 71' Del Piero picks the ball up 25 yards out and forces Verenko to cling onto his stinging drive, to be fair he's scored from there before!
    • 68' Juventus win a corner on the left which they take quickly. Pavel Nedved latches onto Mellberg's knock-down at the back post but can only volley straight at Verenko. Juventus are starting to knock on the door here.
    • 61' Nice work by Giovinco who wriggles his way into the area before cutting the ball back to Nedved who shoots straight at Verenko. The Czech playmaker would have hoped to have done better there.
    • 60' Dmitri Likhatarovich is replaced by Aleksandr Volodko. BATE are shaking things up, maybe they haven't given up on those six goals...
    • 59' Igor Stasevich's night is over as he is replaced by Pavel Nekhaychik.
    • 57' With all the recent action it nearly escaped my attention that the BATE goal-keeper Verenko was booked for his protests after Juventus were awarded their penalty.
    • 55' Alessandro Del Piero is sent on in place of Amauri, as Juventus push for a goal.
    • 54 It's all happening now. BATE create a chance of their own as that man Sivakov hooks the ball back across goal only for Rodionov to head over.
    • 52' PENALTY TO JUVENTUS, clear handball by Sivakov at the back-post. Good decision ref. GIOVINCO steps up confidently, but skies his spot-kick well over the bar.
    • 50' Juventus create the best chance of the night. Amauri finds space on the right and his near-post cross is met well by Marchionni, the ball strikes the post and the keeper collects.
    • 48' A deep cross to the back post finds Sivakov in plenty of space, but his tame header is straight at Manninger.
    • 48' I told you he wasn't happy. Amauri gives Sosnovski some of his own medicine going in hard and late on the BATE defender, earning himself a yellow card in the progress.
    • 47' The first booking of the night goes to Sosnovski for a nasty challenge on Amauri in the middle of the park, Amauri was not too pleased with that tackle.
    • 45' We're underway again. Lets hope the second-half brings us some goals.
    • 20.32 After only two seconds of added time, Costas Kapitanis, tonight's official, blows for half-time. An uninspiring first-half but Juventus wont be too fussed- they still managed 11 shots on goal, albeit only one on target. BATE have yet to really threaten the Juventus goal, they still need six goals to keep their European dream alive...
    • 43' With Real Madrid beating Zenit St.Petersberg in the other Group H fixture, BATE now need to open up a six goal lead to qualify for the UEFA Cup!
    • 40' A chance of note! Giovinco flicks the ball over Khagush and shoots just wide from the edge of the area. A touch of class from Sebastian Giovinco.
    • 36' Corner whipped in from the right this time, Mellberg rises highest and should have done better with his header.
    • 34' Nedved is barged over by Sivakov. From the resulting free-kick, Gionvinco launches a speculative, wild shot towards goal; speculative becuase he was 35 yards out and wild because it ended up with the fans behind the goal.
    • 29' Superb work by Molinaro who beats his man before forcing his way to the by-line and cutting the ball back to Amauri. Amauri's shot at goal is blocked and Juventus have another corner.
    • 25' Great work by Amauri as he shows strength and a fair turn of pace down the left flank. He squares the ball to Giovinco, who is immediately surrounded by a host of BATE defenders and the ball is cleared behind for a corner.
    • 23' BATE win a free-kick about 30 yards from goal and Sivakov unleashes a strike at goal. Although the midfielder slips as he makes contact with the ball, Manninger still needs to make a smart save, tumbling low to his right.
    • 21' Juventus win a free-kick in a promising position on the edge of the box. Paulo De Ceglie lifts in a promising ball, but there is too much on it and it goes over everyone and out for a goal kick.
    • 16' Nedved at the heart of a free-flowing move which lead to a corner for the home side. Amauri leaps well at the back post but his header drifts wide of the post.
    • 12' Giovinco is bundled down in the area, muffled shouts for a penalty, the Referee waves play on.
    • 8' BATE win a corner on the left-hand side. It's aimed at the near post and well cleared by Mellberg, the former Aston Villa defender.
    • 6' Juventus are monopolising possesion, even at this early stage. They work the ball nicely around the midfield but Marchionni can only cross straight at the goal-keeper.
    • 4' There are plenty of empty seats around the ground tonight, no doubt because Juventus have already qualified for the next stage and, dare I say it, BATE are not the most illustrious opponents who will grace the Stadio Olimpico this season.
    • 1' We're underway and Juventus immediately threaten down the left-hand side winning a corner.
    • 20.43 The in-form Del Piero is only on the bench for Juventus, giving the talented Giovinco a chance to showcase his skills. BATE will be relying on leading goal scorer Bliznyuk to net several of the six goals they need to continue their run in Europe this season.
    • 20.39 Hello and welcome to the Stadio Olimpico in Turin for this Group H clash between Juventus and BATE Borisov. Please forgive me for referring to the Belarussian visitors as BATE for the evening. Juventus have already qualified for the knockout stages, while BATE will have to put six past the hosts if they are to have any chance of clinching a UEFA Cup place.
