Juventus held on to complete a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at Stadio Olimpico and move to the top of Champions League Group H. More
94' Full-time at Stadio Olimpico and Juventus have managed to cling on to a crucial 2-1 victory over Real Madrid. Claudio Ranieri's side subsequently leapfrog the Spanish champions to take top spot in Group H.
77' The fit again Vincenzo Iaquinta has been introduced by the Tinkerman in place of the goalscorer Amauri de Oliviera. His exit is met with an appreciative ovation from the home fans.
74' Bernd Schuster has decided to freshen up his midfield for the final 15 minutes, replacing Rafael van der Vaart with Roysten Drenthe.
67' No sooner had Real reduced their arreas, but their defensive vulnerabilities were exposed once again, Marco Marchionni reached the right byline and his cross narrowly evaded Oliviera in the six-yard box.
65' GOAL!!! A cross by Gabriel Heinze is met with a bullet header by Ruud van Nistelrooy! It is no less than Real Madrid deserved after relentless pressure since the second Juve goal.
61' It's that man again! Sneijder hits the post for the visitors with a powerful drive which had Manninger beaten all ends up.
58' Sneijder appears to be on a one-man mission to haul Real back into this match, firing a shot from the edge of the area which the Austrian keeper palms wide.
57' Neat skill from Wesley Sneijder results in a free-kick which the midfielder whips in towards Ramos, who heads straight at Manninger, but really should have done better.
55' Robben is immediately into the match, dinking an exquisite cross to Van der Vaart who heads narrowly wide of Manninger's near post.
54' Dutch flyer Arjen Robben has been introduced to the action by Schuster, with the ineffective Gonzalo Higuain departing.
48' GOAL!!! It's a second goal for Juventus as Pavel Nedved delivers a delightful cross to Amauri de Oliviera at the back post who heads it down past Iker Casillas at his near post.
45' The second-half is underway at Stadio Olimpico, with just the one change made by the managers, and unsurprisingly it is the Tinkerman who has made it.
45' Former Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg has replaced Nicola Legrottaglie during the interval to attempt to sure-up Juve's defensive line.
47' That's half-time in Turin. Wolfgang Stark blows his piercing whistle and Real Madrid will have to pull their socks up if they are to retain their 100% record in Group H.
39' This time Raul is caught offside by the eagle-eyed linesmen. He failed to control Sneijder's pass anyway though.
37' Cristian Molinari has a strong run down the right brought to a halt by the offside flag as he looked to beat Gabriel Heinze.
35' Hasan Salihamidzic replaces the injured Marchisio to add further woe to Ranieri's ever-diminishing squad.
34' Claudio Marchisio collides heavily with midfield team-mate Mohamed Sissoko and he is stretchered from the field to the disbelief of his manager Claudio Ranieri.
30' Nedved breaks free of Ramos' grasp down the left wing and is through on goal, only to have his run ended abruptly by the sight of the offside flag - a tight call.
28' A terrific run from Zdenek Grygera results in the full-back finding Oliveira with a free header, but the striker directs his effort wide of Casillas' goal.
23' This time Van der Vaart has a shot on his weaker right foot from the edge of the hosts' box, but again it does not test the Austrian keeper as it sails over the bar.
20' Raul squanders a great chance for Real as he finds himself inside the Juve area with just the keeper to beat. However, the striker's attempt is poor, dribbling tamely to Manninger.
11' Rafael van der Vaart unleashes a fearsome strike from all of 35-yards which drifts narrowly over Alex Manninger's crossbar with the keeper groping towards it nervously.
5' GOAL!!! It's that man Del Piero with a thunderous strike from 20 yards after playing a delightful one-two with Oliveira.
1' We're underway at Stadio Olimpico and officiating this contest is the rather ominously-named Wolfgang Stark.
- Olof Mellberg and Vincenzo Iaquinta return to the bench for Juve, while Mohamed Sissoko is back in the fold following suspension. However, Christian Poulsen has joined a mounting casualty list including David Trezeguet, Jonathan Zebina, Cristiano Zanetti, Tiago and Mauro Camoranesi.
Meanwhile, morale is high for the Merengues who boast a 100% record so far in Group H. Bernd Schuster has chosen to employ a three-pronged midfield of Rafael van der Vaart, Fernando Gago and Wesley Sneijder, behind Ruud van Nistelrooy, Raul and Gonzalo Higuain.
- Welcome to the Group H encounter between Juventus and Real Madrid at Stadio Olimpico in Turin.
The Bianconeri are in the throes of a five-match winless streak and under-fire boss Claudio Ranieri is bemoaning the absence of a number of key players.
Meanwhile the Merengues camp are bullish following their victory in Saturday's Madrid derby. Ruud van Nistelrooy has already scored twice in this year's competition and he will be looking to add to his tally, spearheading a three-man strike force for Real tonight.| Juventus | Stats | Real Madrid |
