  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • Besiktas
    • VfL Wolfsburg
    • 90' And that's the full-time whistle. A fantastic result for Wolfsburg, who will go into their final two group matches against CSKA Moscow and Manchester United full of confidence, as they seek one of the top-two qualification places. Pure misery for Besiktas, who were terrible tonight with their Champions League journey for this season being well and truly over.
    • 90' And we're into stoppage time. Two minutes
    • 90' Yellow card for Sivok who brings down Dzeko to compound the home side's misery
    • 89' Final substitution for Wolfsburg. Santana is coming on for Misimovic, who has arguably been the man-of-the-match tonight
    • 87' Edin Dzeko gets his goal, even with suspicions of offside. Misimovic the architect, crossing from the left and picking out his compatriot who has the simple task of slotting home past Arikan. 3-0 to Wolfsburg and it has been a rout
    • 87' GOAL FOR WOLFSBURG!
    • 86' Nobre strikes the ball well over. A shocking attempt by the Besiktas player. We are watching a champions league game, aren't we? Because the home team have not been anywhere near the standard you would expect tonight.
    • 84' Fink, to his credit, has been working the hardest of all the Besiktas players. His latest effort goes wide, but he's been the player who has been most likely to make something happen for the Turkish outfit
    • 83' I cannot recall Benaglio having to make any sort of decent save in the Woflsburg goal tonight, as another woeful Besiktas effort flies way over his crossbar
    • 81' Misimovic slides the ball through to Dzeko, who holds off the Besiktas defenders and forces Arikan to make a good save. But the ball comes back to Gentner who checks inside, and places the ball past the man on the line, with Arikan still out of position. And that could well be that for Besiktas
    • 80' GOAL FOR WOLFSBURG!
    • 78' Final substitution for Besiktas, as Koybasi comes on for Uzulmez
    • 78' Unlucky for Besiktas the ball makes it way back to Fink from Mert Nobre, and his strike-on-the-turn skims just wide of the post from outside the area. Great technique that
    • 77' Tello's strike sums up the home side's night, as he blasts the ball well over from 35 yards out
    • 75' Scrappy play from Besiktas. Inceman fails to control properly when in the area, and Uzulmez can't deliver the ball back in when presented with it. A distinct lack of quality, here
    • 73' Fink forces Benaglio to save low, but his strike is from such an acute angle that it would have taken something special to have beaten the Wolfsburg keeper from there.
    • 72' Besiktas give away an unnecessary free-kick out on the right, which Misimovic takes and tries to sneak in at the near post. Almost caught out Arikan, there.
    • 71' The crowd deserves better, who to their credit, have been singing their hearts out all game.
    • 70' Wolfsburg seem content to sit back, and break when necessary, as Schafer smashes a shot harmlessly over out on the left. This half has so far been a non-event.
    • 69' Mert Nobre comes on for Rodrigo Tabata for Besiktas, while Dejagah replaces the disappointing Martins for Wolfsburg
    • 68' Besiktas's build-up play has been strong this half, but they simply run out of ideas when they get in and around the box
    • 67' Tabata attempts an audacious strike as the ball sits up nicely for him, but it flashes wide
    • 67' Tello swings the ball into the box but Madlung is able to firmly head clear. Better build-up play from the home side, but no-one attacking to create the end product!
    • 66' Tabata loosely gives the ball away to Dzeko who feeds Martins, but the ball is just too long for him to run onto
    • 65' Dzeko is marginally offside but had an acre of space on the left. Besiktas were almost punished there
    • 64' Pekarik robs the ball down the Wolfsburg right, but he should have played the ball into the box. In the end, he tries to be clever and wastes the opportunity
    • 63' Nice work down the Besiktas left sees Fink unleash a stinging drive on the edge of the penalty area, but its straight at Benaglio who is alert to make the save. Fink fast becoming the key outlet for Besiktas
    • 62' Martins' run is calmly blocked out by Sivok and the ball finds its way to Arikan safely
    • 60' Inceman receives the fourth yellow card of the night for a reckless challenge on Gentner
    • 59' Wolfsburg's midfield have stood up well to the challenge, and Josue and Gentner are increasingly finding more and more freedom
    • 58' This half is so far lacking the necessary spark, and the home fans are getting increasingly restless. Besiktas really lacking a cutting edge
    • 57' Bobo is off-side as he seeks a one-on-one opportunity with Benaglio
    • 56' Fink was unable to get a shot away, but Rodrigo Tabata does from just outside the penalty area. However, he leans back and the ball goes harmlessly over the Wolfsburg goal
    • 54' Inceman takes a swipe at Josue, who goes down in some discomfort, but then is safely back up again. What ever happened to sportsmanship, hey?
    • 53' Dzeko links well with Gentner before crossing for Martins, but the cross is little bit too high for the Nigerian striker to get his head to
    • 52' Bobo feeds Uzulmez down the Besiktas left that leads to a corner. And it is Uzulmez who swings the ball in, but Benaglio comfortably claims
    • 51' That foul has given Schafer a chance to shoot the free-kick from distance but he blasts straight into the Besiktas wall
    • 50' Tello, the substitute's first contribution is to get booked for cross-checking Misimovic. Nice input
    • 49' Time to see exactly what Besiktas are made of here. They need to win, and so far, they need to keep the ball a lot better.
    • 48' Rodrigo Tabata tries an audacious cross-come-shot out on the right. That's not going to trouble Benaglio or Wolfsburg.
    • 47' Dzeko links up well with Martins, but he gets the ball stuck under his feet and it eventually drifts harmlessly wide
    • 47' Tello came on for Ozkan, I should point out
    • 46' And we're now underway, with Wolfsburg, in the second-half
    • 46' And for Besiktas, Tello is coming on
    • 46' Substitution for Wolfsburg at the start of the second-half. Pekarik coming on for Hasebe
    • 45' No stoppage time here. The referee brings the first half to a close. Wolfsburg looking very comfortable at 1-0, although probably should have killed off the contest. The fact they haven't will spur on Besiktas, who have it all to do in the next 45 minutes
    • 44' Wolfsburg just playing keep-ball now and looking comfortable as they play down the minutes until half-time
    • 43' Yellow card for Wolfsburg's Misimovic, although on second viewing it looks like he cleanly wins the ball. Harsh
    • 42' Besiktas have slowly come to life, they're keeping the ball better but still look very vulnerable when Wolfsburg break
    • 41' Dzeko embarks on an excellent run through the heart of the Besiktas team, but he's unable to get a clear shot away. Excellent endeavour from the Bosnian though
    • 40' Fink finds Ozkan in space on the right, but he moves far too early. Good communication between the Wolfsburg backline to snuff out the chance
    • 38' Fink does well down the left and plants a cross on the head of Bobo who fails to get his header on target. That was a good chance for Besiktas, although Bobo was under pressure
    • 37' It's now Madlung's turn to shoot on sight. His drive fizzes past Arikan's post. Not a bad effort for a centre-back
    • 37' A wasted cross from Schafer down the left for Wolfsburg. It evades everyone and travels harmlessly out
    • 36' The game has quitened down somewhat, but it doesn't stop Ibrahim Kas from receiving the first yellow of the match after cynically bringing down Martins
    • 35' Bobo does really well to hold off several Wolfsburg players, before playing a nice reverse-pass to Ozkan, who drills his shot wide. Besiktas needed more options there - more players should have been ghosting into the box
    • 33' Nice play from Besiktas sees a shot open up for Uzulmez on the left. He drives in low, but Benaglio is on hand to make the save for Wolfsburg
    • 31' The only positive for Besiktas to draw on so far is that the scoreline could, and perhaps should, be far worse for them then it currently is
    • 30' Woefully optimistic effort from Fink - he slices his shot wide with his left foot from 30-odd yards out
    • 29' Dzeko wins a corner down the left off Sivok, which Misimovic swings in and Arikan is on hand to punch away
    • 28' Bit more desire from Besiktas sees Fink's darting run into the box fail to find a teammate. But it's much more positive from the home team
    • 27' And now Martins has been ruled offside after receiving from Dzeko. The Nigerian struggled to click into gear thus far
    • 26' Dzeko is flagged offside, as he times his run down the left too early
    • 25' 8 shots for Wolfsburg, compared to 1 for Besiktas. I think that stat says it all, really
    • 24' Massive chance for 2-0. Gentner swings in a deep cross from the right, but Mismiovic unmarked heads wide from only a few yards out. Terrible marking from Besiktas there
    • 23' Kas loosely gives the ball away when trying to find Inceman. First signs of restlessness from the home crowd
    • 22' Dzeko tries to find Martins but Ferrari intercepts, and he then cuts out an inswinging, Schafer cross. Good, defensive play on two occasions by Ferrari
    • 21' Besiktas beginning to commit more men forward, but it's risky giving Wolfsburg's own attacking intent
    • 20' Josue sprays the ball to Misimovic who plays it to Martins who then looses the ball under pressure but does get the corner... and from that, Madlung heads over for Wolfsburg
    • 18' Besiktas' backline of Kas, Ferrari, Sivok and Uzulmez are giving Dzeko and co far too much space all over their final third. Wolfsburg attacking with freedom at the moment
    • 16' Martins spoons the ball over the goal from the edge of the penalty area, as the game begins to flow end-to-end.
    • 15' And right down the other end, Besiktas force Benaglio into a fantastic save to his left. Great long-range effort from Bobo
    • 14' Fantastic strike from Mismiovic, smashing the ball from 30 yards past a hapless Arikan. But Besiktas' defenders should have closed the Bosnian down
    • 14' GOAL FOR WOLFSBURG!
    • 13' Schafer's cross in low from the left is headed clear by Besiktas' Ferrari, and the Turkish side breathe another sigh of relief
    • 12' Wolfsburg have certainly settled the better of the two teams
    • 11' Golden opportunity from that corner for Wolfsburg. A free header for Ricardo Costa, and he buries it wide. Besiktas hanging on in there, they look very nervous in these opening exchanges
    • 10' Zvesjdan Mismiovic piles on the Wolfsburg pressure with a similar drive to Genter's but Arikan makes the save, conceding a corner in the process
    • 9' Besiktas on uneasy ground, as Arikan punches away the Wolfsburg corner from the left. To his credit, he gets a strong fist to it
    • 9' Now it's Gentner's turn to test Arikan. He hits a low drive from 25 yards out which the keeper palms away nicely, but then struggles to collect
    • 8' Good spell for Wolfsburg. Schafer whips in a cross from the left which Arikan manages to punch uncovincingly above his head. Luckily for him the ball evades the Wolfsburg players
    • 7' Martins spins and takes a shot on the edge of the penalty area but it's weak and safely gathered by Arikan. Perhaps he should have played in Hasebe who was ghosting down the right, instead of shooting
    • 6' Martins chases after a through-ball from the Wolfsburg right but Sivok muscles the Nigerian away and Arikan can collect comfortably
    • 5' The whistles can be heard around the stadium, as Wolfsburg seek to retain possession. But Besiktas are harrying well
    • 4' 'Keeper Arikan slices his clearance for Besiktas but Wolfsburg are unable to capitalise
    • 3' Early chance for Besiktas. Rodrigo Tabata sending in a dangerous, low cross from the right for Bobo but Ricardo Costa is able to cut the ball out
    • 2' Such noise bellowing out around the Ionou stadium - let's see if the Wolfsburg players are able to silence the crowd early on
    • 1' And Besiktas get us underway in white, kicking from left to right
    • - The referee for this evening's match is Alberto Mallenco from Spain
    • - We're just a couple of minutes from kick-off, as the traditional Champions League anthem is belted out around the arena
    • - Fingers crossed for a pulsating night in Istanbul with a wall of noise expected from the home side. So much at stake for both sides... and certainly a must-win encounter for Besiktas
    • - While, for Wolfsburg, Grafite is suspended after being sent off in the last meeting between the sides, which ended in a goalless draw a fortnight ago. That means Obafemi Martins will partner Edin Dzeko in attack, while a thigh injury keeps Karim Ziani out of action
    • - Now to the team news and, for Besiktas, coach Denizli is bnot able to call on a full-strength side as Filip Holosko (broken foot), Rydvan Simsek (groin), Nihat Kahveci (hamstring), Ibrahim Toraman (knee) and Ismail Koybasy (ankle) are all out injured. Goalkeeper Rusut Recber is having trouble with his waist, and Rodrigo Tello is only fit enough for the bench following a hamstring problem.
    • - ... while Besiktas have yet to register a win during the group phase, and desperately need all three points tonight if they are to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages. Anything else, and you would have to think that a Europa League third-placed spot is all that would be potentially obtainable for Mustafa Denizli's men
    • - There's a lot riding on tonight's match, as a win for Wolfsburg would see the German club move one step closer to securing that all-important second, qualification place in the group...
    • - Hello and welcome to this evening's Group B, matchweek four clash between Turkish outfit Besiktas and defending Bundesliga champions VfL Wolfsburg
  • Summary

  9. Yea in fact Besiktas has the loudest fans in Europe! So its always hard for away teams to get a win there. Though saying that Besiktas doesnt much...they dont concede much either ;) So the result should be a narrow 1-0 or 2-1 i think.
