    • - A slightly harsh scoreline on Celtic perhaps in light of the nature of the goals, but Arsenal deserve their lead at least for what was a good away display. Thanks for joining us this evening!
    • 90'+2 FT. 2-0 to Arsenal as they take a commanding lead into the second leg next week.
    • 90'+2 Arsenal just playing keep-ball now...
    • 90' Into the 90th and there will be two additional minutes...
    • 87' Celtic play the ball out of defenxce and are now knocking it about in midfield. Brown's forward-looking pass is mis-placed though.
    • 86' Loovens is booked too, moments later.
    • 85' Clichy is carded for a foul on McCourt.
    • 83' Celtic still seeking that goal that would keep them in with a hope going to the Emirates Stadium next week.
    • 81' Fabregas hits a dipping one at Boruc's near post which the Pole can only parry behind for a corner.
    • 79' Arsenal holding onto possession. They looks like they're pressing for another though - not content to sit back on a two-goal lead.
    • 76' McCourt is thrown on for N'Guemo as Celtic's last sub.
    • 74' Clichy skews a clearance away as Fox crosses from the left. McDonald fails to control the loose ball and Arsenal have a goal-kick.
    • 73' Mowbray holds his head and he knows that's probably put the tie beyond his side.
    • 71' GOAL FOR ARSENAL! Own goal Caldwell! Diaby drives through the middle and lays Clichy on down the left. His cross is turned in by Caldwell!
    • 70' Arshavin makes way for Diaby.
    • 69' Van Persie is flagged offside as he takes Fabregas' dink on his chest and tries to beat Boruc.
    • 67' Fortune plays a great early cross from the right and Gallas puts it behind for a corner. For a moment there it looked like he might put the ball in his own net. Good play from the Celtic sub.
    • 65' Celtic take hold for a minute as they win a free-kick in midfield. Nothing comes of it though...
    • 63' Celtic break through McGeady and he spreads it wide to McDonald in support. The Australian striker's delivery is well over-hit though.
    • 61' Arsenal have a corner which Arshavin whips in. Brown eventually hoofs clear and Celtic break through Fortune, but he ends up fouling Denilson after the Brazilian wins possession off him.
    • 59' Bendtner takes the ball on and unchallenged he shoots well wide. Arsenal enjoying more space as the game opens up.
    • 58' N'Guemo is booked for a late one on Fabregas. He'll miss the second leg next week.
    • 57' Samaras and Donati make way for McDonald and Fortune as Mowbray goes two up front.
    • 56' Arsenal forced to defend as Celtic come forward down the right. Vermaelen heads clear.
    • 54' Gallas wins the ball in midfield, runs it forward and feeds Van Persie who pulls a shot just wide from the edge of the area. Arsenal are dominant.
    • 53' First booking of the evening for Fox.
    • 52' Penalty appeal turned away by Busacca for Celtic. Samaras appeals for a handball as the balls strikes Bendtner on his arm. It would've been harsh...
    • 51' Maloney wins a free-kick out on the left side...
    • 50' Arsenal are winning out in midfield here as Song brings the ball forward...
    • 48' Denilson curls a shot a foot wide of Boruc's left post! Celtic have been too slow out of the half-time interval and Arsenal are flying.
    • 46' A hush descends on Parkhead as Arsenal break immediately and Arshavin feeds Van Persie. His shot is dragged a few feet wide though... Fabregas almost breaks in shortly after but Donati puts in a telling tackle.
    • 46' Kick-off! Celtic get the game back underway.
    • 45'+1 HT. Arsenal take a one-goal lead into the interval after William Gallas' deflected goal puts them in front.
    • 45'+1 Into added time, and a strong psychological blow struck for the Gunners before the break.
    • 44' Caldwell brought Fabregas down 25 yards out with a trailing leg, and the Spaniard took the set piece. He drilled it towards the left of the goal, but the ducking Gallas got in the way and unwittingly gave his side the lead!
    • 43' GOAL FOR ARSENAL! Fabregas' free-kick takes a shocking deflection off Gallas' back and Boruc is left stranded! 1-0 to Arsenal.
    • 42' Hinkel cuts the ball back but Sagna blocks Maloney's shot. Brown then follows up with a low one that Almunia holds onto!
    • 41' Arshavin runs from deep and gets a shot off, but Boruc gathers easily as the sting is taken out of his effort by a block.
    • 40' Caldwell defends well with a good header under Van Persie's watchful eye. Arsenal enjoying a spell of possession inside Celtic's half here...
    • 39' Lovely skill in midfield from Arshavin but Arsenal are still kept at bay.
    • 38' Loovens does enough to stop Van Persie latching onto a dangerous-looking through ball...
    • 36' Almunia takes Fox's delivery well under pressure from Caldwell, who is late on the keeper. The Spaniard gets up and makes no fuss though.
    • 35' Vermaelen gives away a corner as Celtic come forward again...
    • 34' The tempo of the game picks up as Denilson tangles in midfield but loses out. Caldwell then fells Song with a very unsubtle challenge and Arsenal have a free-kick inside Celtic's half...
    • 33' Fox almost links with Maloney but his pass is a touch behind his team-mate. Arsenal take the ball upfield.
    • 31' Loovens gets rid of the ball as Clichy floats a cross in which Van Persie nods on.
    • 30' Samaras offside as he mis-times his run onto McGeady's pass.
    • 29' Fabregas dinks a ball over the top of Celtic's defence and Van Persie is onto it, but it's a tad too heavy and Boruc can collect.
    • 28' Celtic keep it tight in midfield and some neat passing allows Donati to try a cross-field pass, but the Italian over-cooks his searching ball and Arsenal have a throw.
    • 26' Mowbray barks out orders on the sideline and it seems to work as Donati gets forward.
    • 25' Samaras pulls Song back and Arsenal have a free-kick which is pumped forward, but Boruc gathers.
    • 24' Loovens clears Sagna's first-time cross from the right as Arsenal stream forward.
    • 22' Van Persie hits the deck having come off the worse in an aerial challenge. He's taken off for treatment and is back on shortly.
    • 20' Celtic are in Arsenal's half in no time and McGeady dinks the ball into the onrushing Brown, but Vermaelen is there with a simply fantastic block to deny the midfielder's volley!
    • 19' Van Persie whips the delivery in but Vermaelen's header at the far post is well off and Celtic break...
    • 18' Free-kick for Arsenal on the right in a dangerous spot as Donati brings down Van Persie...
    • 16' McGeady presses Clichy well and is unfortunate to not get the bounce of the ball as he charges down the Frenchman's clearance.
    • 15' Maloney and Fox combine but the former fails to control the latter's mis-hit cross as he receives the ball back, having started the move down the left. Hinkel breaks down a counter attack from Arsenal.
    • 14' Song tries to find Fabregas with a pass off the outside of his right boot. Donati is dumped on the floor by Fabregas as Celtic come away, and the hosts have a free-kick in their own half.
    • 12' DISALLOWED GOAL FOR ARSENAL! Arshavin's offside as he pounces on a deflected Van Persie shot to stroke the ball home. Nice build-up play but the Russian was ahead of play when Van Persie struck his effort.
    • 11' Fox with the corner to the far post and Caldwell's up from the back. He can't get his header on target and Almunia watches the ball sail well wide.
    • 10' McGeady's looking lively for Celtic and almost comes off the better in a tussle with Song. Celtic come again and Samaras wins a corner out of Vermaelen.
    • 8' Fabregas almost nips in to intercept a short back-pass from Fox to Boruc, but the Celtic keeper manages to hack clear just in time.
    • 7' Denilson slams a pass way too hard as he tries to meet Van Persie's arcing run. Arsenal are looking slick when passing and moving.
    • 6' Caldwell tries a long ball forward but it's well over-hit. N'Guemo has looked bright for the home side in midfield.
    • 4' Arsenal hold onto the ball and play some nice, incisive passing but Bendtner's poor touch halts a promising attack.
    • 3' Fox with an early whipped cross from the left side, but lone striker Samaras can't get on the end of it.
    • 2' Early free-kick for Celtic as Arshavin bundles Hinkel over inside Celtic's half. The ball's pinging around in midfield as both sides try and take control.
    • 1' Kick-off! Arsenal get the game underway...
    • - Last season's Champions League final referee Massimo Busacca is taking charge of this one.
    • - The teams walk out and line-up for the Champions League anthem...
    • - You'll Never Walk Alone belts out around Celtic Park as a sea of green sways along.
    • - So will home advantage count for anything this evening? I don't think it will. I fancy Tony Mowbray's side to not be out of touch after this first leg, but I reckon Arsenal will leave Parkhead with a 2-1 lead.
    • - And for the Bhoys, Georgios Samaras leads the line as Scott McDonald and Marc-Antoine Fortune are left on the bench.
    • - So for the Gunners Bacary Sagna, Cesc Fabregas and Denilson all come through late fitness tests having been doubts, as Arsene Wenger sticks with the starting XI who demolished Everton at the weekend.
    • - And for Arsenal: Almunia, Clichy, Vermaelen, Gallas, Sagna, Denilson, Song, Fabregas, Arshavin, Bendtner, Van Persie. SUBS: Mannone, Diaby, Eduardo, Ramsey, Silvestre, Eboue, Gibbs.
    • - Team news is in for both sides, and we start with hosts Celtic: Boruc, Hinkel, Caldwell, Loovens, Fox, Donati, N'Guemo, McGeady, Brown, Maloney, Samaras. SUBS: Zaluska, Naylor, McDonald, Fortune, Flood, McCourt, O'Dea.

  5. No coach has the eagles eyes to buy players in the premeirship like Arsene Wenger.
Check out such world class buys as Eduardo da Silva, Andrea Arshavin, Thomas Vermaelen Nasri just to mention a few. Keep it up Wenger. U have good eyes for players with the resources available to u. That fulham defender alone may also make one of your good buys. Dont BOTHER ABOUT Chamack, he does not belong to the arsenal class for now.

  8. #511 - it could be said that at that time the Old Firm had more money than the English 1st Division...

Certainly Rangers had more money than Leeds.. (at least more of their own money - all of Leeds' was borrowed :P)

As has been said TV revenue has helped the English Premier League prosper and lack of it has driven the Scottish, especially the old firm backwards.
    but why is that?

why are TV stations prepared to pay so much more for the rights to top flight English games than Scottish?

It is a shame that 2 such great clubs as Rangers and Celtic are stuck in such a poor league, it reduces their revenues and weakens them... true as many have said, if they were to merge into the English leagues they would have trouble with the initial adjustment, but the TV revenue along with their fan base (probably expanded with premier league exposure) would give them a good chance of becoming a force after a couple of years... especially if some random Arab sheikh bought them and gave them £1bn to spend on players.

  10. i did say a few goals but 2 is enough
If Celtic wanna get through they'll have to score very very early in the game.
When will Walcott be back because we may need him

Please Arsenal you have to get through

Nice goal Gallas!! Even though everyone is saying we got lucky, i think both the chances that we scored with would have ended up as goals anyway, even if Gallas hadnt deflected Fabregas' free kick and even if Caldwell hadnt tried to block the cross coz Van Persie was right there ready.

    From greg.magee, on Wed 19 Aug 8:13AM
  17. The old Firm game only has your hairs up on your neck coz you support those teams, you have a vested interest in them. It means nothing to those who don't support those teams, that's why I said I felt it was not better than the Man United Liverfool Match. I never said that match was a derby, just a match.

  19. the good thing about arsenal is the free-flow football and entertainment.now that the team appears rejunevated, every club in the premier league and europe should be wary.up Gunnersssssssssssssss

From Emeka, on Wed 19 Aug 7:39AM
  20. The advantage Arsenal have over most teams is that the players get on with it rather than argue with one another. This is mainly due to the fact that none of them speak the same lamguage.
