    • 90'+3 There is it! All over at Anfield! And it's another night to forget in Europe for Liverpool!
    • 90'+2 That always looked like happening... disaster for Liverpool... that is really not what the club needed...
    • 90'+1 GOAL! DELGADO BREAKS LIVERPOOL HEARTS! It's another substitute, Delgado, who taps home at the far post from Govou's brilliant cross! Devastation for Liverpool!
    • 90' Mascherano tries his luck now! But it's easy enough for Lloris, who has had a great game.
    • 88' Reveilerre is booked for a rather innocuous challenge on Insua as time runs out...
    • 86' Lyon make a change now... Delgado for Lisandro.
    • 85' SKRTEL! Kuyt nods down for the defender, but his shot on the turn goes over!
    • 85' A few boos ring out as Benitez decides to make a change... Benayoun is taken off and replaced by Voronin.
    • 84' That said here's Kuyt! No! His header goes wide of the mark...
    • 83' Time running out for both side to nick a winner, although Lyon look the more likely at the moment...
    • 78' Liverpool just can't seem to get this one clear as Gomis and Lisandro cause a few problems down by the corner flag... but the ref comes to their rescue, and blows for a Liverpool free-kick.
    • 75' Bad news for Liverpool.... Skrtel's gone into the middle and Carragher's moved to right-back... he doesn't like it there one bit...
    • 74' Kelly's night is over... the youngster limps off and is replaced by Skrtel, who was dropped from the starting line-up tonight.
    • 73' Nightmare for Liverpool... delight for the travelling Lyon fans!
    • 72' GOAL! LYON EQUALISE! It's a real scrambled effort! Reina do so well to make a double save first to deny Toulalan and then Cissokho! But there's nothing he can do about the third effort on goal as substitute Gonalons finds the back of the net!
    • 69' Carragher and Reina with a lack of communication at the back! They look a bit nervy still...
    • 68' Benayoun wants a free-kick here as he tries to wriggle past Aurelio... he's not going to get one.
    • 67' Oooh! Into the side netting! That looked like it was in as Toulalan whipped in a free-kick towards the near post!
    • 66' Here come Lyon... Cissokho marauds down the left-hand side... but that man Kelly is there to head clear! He's having a decent game so far tonight!
    • 65' The atmosphere's just gone a little flat at the moment... or is it just tension? Liverpool need another goal before they can relax...
    • 61' Here's a change for Lyon as Bafetimbi Gomis comes on to replace Ederson...
    • 60' Kuyt! Oooh! Another chance for Liverpool! The Dutchman rises high to meet a cross with a headed towards the bottom left hand corner! Lloris is forced into a making a decent save, low down to his left!
    • 58' Ngog! Another great first touch! He brings a Kelly cross down on his chest, but his volleyed finish is hurried and bounces wide!
    • 57' Makoun! It's a free header for the Cameroonian! But he directs it over the bar! Flag's up anyway...
    • 56' Benayoun displays his tinkle-toes on the edge of the box before feeding Kuyt... the Dutchman sends it back into the area, where Benayoun has popped up again! Oooh! His header goes wide of the mark, when he really should have at least hit the target!
    • 55' Yellow for Govou for a high challenge on Insua...
    • 53' Brilliant turn by Ngog down on the by-line! But his second touch isn't half as good and he doesn't get a cross over...
    • 51' Gerrard has made his way to the Liverpool bench... he's got a face like thunder... but at least he's not had to go to hospital or anything. Can we assume his injury is not hugely serious, then?
    • 50' Reveillere makes sure Reina is still awake with a crisp drive from the edge of the box... but it's always rising and in the end the Liverpool keeper doesn't have to make a save!
    • 49' Benayoun and Ngog link up nicely as Liverpool look to find a way through the Lyon defnece... but Toulalan eventually gets rid...
    • 48' Makoun heads on from a corner... Lisandro appeals for a hand ball as the ball bounces up into the arm of Insua! Play on, waves the referee!
    • 47' That's a great ball into the Liverpool box! But Agger is there to head clear with Lisandro lurking in behind!
    • 46' Here we go! Back underway at Anfield... no changes to tell you about.
    • 45'+4 There goes the half-time whistle! And Liverpool head in a goal to the good...
    • 45'+3 Ngog is booked for a raised arm on Toulalan...
    • 45'+2 Lucas takes it... Lloris punches clear... eventually it comes out to Aurelio, but his half-volley is sliced wide of the mark!
    • 45'+1 Makoun is penalised for tripping Mascherano... no, he's not, it's a corner... should have been a free-kick...
    • 45' Then Ngog lands one on the top of the net as Liverpool end the half strongly!
    • 44' Brilliant from Liverpool, namely Kelly who beats his man beautifully before delivering a great cross to the back stick which Aurelio gets his head to! Great save by Lloris to deny the Brazilian!
    • 43' Lisandro takes advantage of a sloppy ball by Insua... he fires on target again, but again Reina is equal to it.
    • 42' Cris is down again after that goal went in.... he's still suffering from that blow to the head... and he's stretchered off, with Gonalons coming on to replace him.
    • 41' GOAL! LIVERPOOL TAKE THE LEAD! It's Benayoun who gets it! Aurelio causes confusion in the Lyon box with a fierce drive from outside the box as Kelly swings a boot at it and misses... it falls to Benayoun, who takes a moment to pick his spot, and then fires past Lloris! 1-0 Liverpool!
    • 39' What a ball in from Kallstrom towards Govou at the far post! But his sliding volleyed effort flies over the bar!
    • 37' Pjanic lets fly from distance... easy for Reina...
    • 36' News on that injury to Gerrard now... apparently he came off as a precaution only and there's nothing torn.
    • 35' Chance for Liverpool! Cissokho with a great block to deny Kuyt before Ngog lashes goalwards! Saved by Lloris and Lyon scramble clear!
    • 34' Lyon down to 10 men for the time being and they'll have to defend a free-kick here... Aurelio takes it, but it's claimed easily by Lloris.
    • 33' Cris is still down... that was a real John Terry-like, use anything to stop you challenge... he ended up taking a knee to his head.
    • 32' Cris brings down Kuyt with his head.... not sure how that's possible, but the Brazilian somehow manages it! And, understandably, he comes out of the challenge worse off... the medics come on to help him, and when he gets back up again, he'll have a yellow card to his name.
    • 30' Kuyt tries his luck from distance... he strikes it well enough but his effort skids wide of the mark.
    • 29' Nice footwork from Pjanic in the middle of the park... but his final ball is poor and it rolls all the way through for Reina.
    • 27' So, it looks like Benayoun will come inside and Aurelio will play wide on the left.
    • 26' The Kop responds to that blow with some encouraging noise... but that's given Benitez a real problem...
    • 25' Oh dear... it's not Insua who's coming off at all... it's Steven Gerrard. The Liverpool skipper is replaced by Auralio and that's really not good news for Liverpool.
    • 24' Lisandro forces his way into the box... he nudges Agger before kicking the underside of Carragher's boot... ouch.
    • 23' Aurelio is getting a talking to from Benitez on the touchline... it looks like he's coming on! Insua is certainly struggling against Govou, but to bring him off after just 23 minutes?
    • 22' Govou turns Insua again... and the Liverpool full-back is forced to foul the flying Frenchman... in fact, he's lucky not to get a booking...
    • 21' Agger and Govou clash heads in an aerial challenge... but it's not serious and both will be okay to carry on.
    • 20' Ngog's through on goal here! But again the flag is up, this time for offside... he couldn't round Lloris anyway...
    • 19' The Lyon fans who have made the trip to Liverpool tonight are doing their bit for the atmosphere...
    • 17' Kallstrom again lets fly from distance! It's not too far away, although Reina doesn't seem too perturbed by it.
    • 15' KUYT! IT'S THERE! NO! The flag's up and it won't count! Replays show the Dutchman pushed his man as he got on the end of Gerrard's precise cross...
    • 13' Govou now looks to spread the play... but his pass looking for Ederson is well out of play.
    • 12' Lyon have started really well... and it's clear they're not going to stick 10 men behind the ball and try to frustrate Liverpool.
    • 11' Oooh! Real chance for Lyon to take the lead! Cissokho gets to the by-line and centres... Lisandro is there to head on target! But Reina makes himself big and makes the save!
    • 10' Kallstrom lets fly! He catches is sweetly... but it's blocked...
    • 9' Cissokho sends over another cross from the left wing... headed clear by the Reds defence.
    • 8' Kuyt ventures forward now... but his delivery into the box isn't his best and Lloris, the France keeper, is able to claim.
    • 7' The ball falls to Toulalan, fully 40 yards out... he fires a strike on goal! But it's way high and wide and Reina isn't troubled.
    • 6' Agger now goes in and concedes a corner.... no, it's actually a throw...
    • 4' Govou skips past a few challenges, but Mascherano is across to make the challenge.
    • 2' So, it's going to be interesting to see how Liverpool respond to their latest injury worries... it's a big night for young Martin Kelly.
    • 1' We're off! Underway at an electric Anfield!
    • - Steven Gerrard returns but Glen Johnson misses out with a groin strain. So, Martin Kelly comes into the side for his first appearance of the season. He is one of five changes, with Javier Mascherano, David Ngog and Emiliano Insua also coming into the side.
    • - And tonight's referee is Alberto Undiano Mallenco (Spain).
    • - Lyon: Lloris, Reveillere, Cris, Toulalan, Cissokho, Pjanic, Makoun, Kallstrom, Govou, Lopez, Ederson. Subs: Vercoutre, Clerc, Michel Bastos, Gomis, Delgado, Belfodil, Gonalons
    • - Liverpool: Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Agger, Insua, Mascherano, Lucas, Kuyt, Gerrard, Benayoun, Ngog. Subs: Cavalieri, Voronin, Aurelio, Babel, Spearing, Plessis, Skrtel
    • - Player to watch: Miralem Pjanic. The 19-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovinia international has impressed so far this season, scoring against both Fiorentina and Debrecen, while setting up a further two against the Hungarian champions.
    • - Sydney Govou is the most experienced of the visitors' players having notched up 60 Champions League appearances and scored nine times.
    • - Lyon have a 100 per cent record in Group E, having beaten Fiorentina and Debrecen in their opening two games. Group E details
    • - But, like Liverpool, they head into the clash at Anfield off the back of a defeat - to Sochaux and their first of the season. Cris demands reaction
    • - Having conceded their title to Bordeaux last season, Les Gones are back on top of Ligue 1 heading into the clash at Anfield. Ligue 1 table
    • - Meanwhile, Lyon have not won any of their last seven matches against English clubs and just one of the last 11, a 1-0 away victory over Blackburn Rovers in the 1998-99 UEFA Cup.
    • - The two sides have never met each other before, but Liverpool have a decent record against French clubs. The Reds have conceded a mere three goals in 11 previous home games against French clubs. They won nine of those and have lost only once - 1-0 to Marseille two seasons ago in the Champions League.
    • - More concrete team news as and when we get it.
    • - Better news is that Steven Gerrard returns from injury, as does Javier Mascherano, who started the weekend's game on the bench after a long trip to South America for World Cup qualifying.
    • - Benitez will be hoping his side bounce back from Saturday's disappointing beach ball influenced defeat at Sunderland, but they will have to beat the seven-times French champions without striker Fernando Torres, who remains out with an injured groin. Torres ruled out
    • - But victory over Lyon tonight would help ease the strain while setting the Reds up nicely for the small matter of Sunday's crunch derby against Manchester United.
    • - Defeat at Fiorentina three weeks ago put a dent in Liverpool's bid to qualify from the group stage of the Champions League while having lost four out of nine in the Premier League, Rafa Benitez's side have it all to do in order to salvage something on the domestic front.
    • - Under-pressure Liverpool welcome Lyon to Anfield for their Group E Champions League clash knowing that the next week could well make or break their season.
  • Summary
