  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • Rangers
    • Sevilla FC
    • 90+2' There's the full-time whistle. Rangers 1-4 Sevilla.
    • 90' Navarro is booked for a crude challenge on Bougherra. Thomson swings the ball in...but it's cleared by the first man.
    • 88' Nacho Novo scores an absolute cracker to give the Rangers fans something to cheer!! He cuts in from the left, shits the ball onto his right foot, and drills a piledriver of a shot past Palop into the far corner! 1-4.
    • 87' The game has pretty much gone dead now. Sevilla are happy with their four goals, and Rangers know there is no way back from here.
    • 83' Pedro Mendes shifts the ball onto his right foot, but his rushed shot is well wide.
    • 77' Diego Capel goes to ground under a challenge from Whittaker...and is booked for diving! Not sure about that. Whittaker certainly had a hold of his shirt, though the Spaniard went down very easily.
    • 75' Davis releases Boyd in behind the Sevilla back four...but Palop makes a decent stop from the striker.
    • 74' 4-0!!! Sevilla are running riot on the break! This time it's Luis Fabiano who sprints clear of Papac on the right, sees his partner Fredi Kanoute free in the centre, lays a perfect ball into the Malian's path, and he slots home past McGregor.
    • 71' Powerful play from Kanoute to win the ball on the right flank. He surges forward and stands up an inviting ball for Luis Fabiano...who rises high above Whittaker to head Sevilla 3-0 in front!! Another fine goal from the Spaniards.
    • 66' Diego Capel is on for Adriano for Sevilla now.
    • 65' GOAL!!! Sevilla lead 2-0! Luis Fabiano plays a lovely one-two with Jesus Navas, he pulls it back behind Kanoute, but behind Bougherra and Whittaker too...and Adriano curls a beautifully struck shot into the far corner. Brilliant.
    • 63' Kanoute plays a nice one-two with Zokora as Sevilla come forward again, but Bougherra blocks the ball infield. Sevilla continue to press, though.
    • 61' Mendes tries an ambitious shot from 25 yards, but again makes a poor connection and it's bhind for a goal kick.
    • 60' A glancing header from Naismith is blocked behind by Escude for a corner. It's a poor one...and Sevilla break at speed...Adriano is brought down by Weir...but no free kick!! This is most bizarre!
    • 57' Thomson stings the hands of Palop with a curling shot from 30 yards, and Rangers have a corner...which comes to nothing.
    • 54' Whittaker with a terrific ball into the centre...Mendes can't quite reach it...and neither can Papac at the back post!!! Agonising for Rangers!
    • 51' The free-kick is played wide for Jesus Navas, who is totally unmarked. He picks out Abdoulay Konko in the centre who is also totally unmarked...AND SEVILLA HAVE THE LEAD!!! Fine header from the Frenchman, and the home fans are beside themselves with rage. How ironic that it should be Konko who gets the goal - the very man who brought Naismith down for the penaltyu that never was in the first half.
    • 50' Luis Fabiano dances away from Weir, and the referee awards him a free-kick to further infuriate the Rangers fans. They're convinced this referee has it in for them! To be fair, Weir had a slight hold of Fabiano's shirt.
    • 49' Another free-kick for Rangers as Rothen gets another chance to deliver a fine ball...and Escude heads behind for a corner. No! Goal kick is given! Shocking decision!
    • 47' Good start to the second half for Rangers as they win a free-kick in a good position wide in the Sevilla half. Rothen whips it in...McCulluch rises well...and glances the ball just over the bar!
    • 46' Sevilla get the second half underway.
    • 45' There's half-time. Rangers 0-0 Sevilla. No shortage of talking points here. The boos once again ring out as the referee leaves the field. The home fans are not happy campers. Not with the referee anyway, though they are more than happy with the way their team has acquitted themselves.
    • 42' Adriano pounces on an awful touch from Bougherra... and McGregor makes an absolutely vital stop from the winger!!! It falls to Navas on the rebound...but he blazes over on the stretch!!! The game has really come alive here.
    • 39' Boos are still ringing out round Ibrox for that poor penalty decision from the referee. It really was a bit of a clanger.
    • 38' Free-kick from 35 yards for Sevilla...blasted into the Rangers' wall by Luis Fabiano.
    • 37' Massive penalty shout from Rangers as Steven Naismith latches onto a poor touch from Abdoulay Konko...goes down under a clumsy challenge from the Frenchman...but the referee waves the penalty claims away!!! The home crowd are livid, and rightly so!!! There was no reason for him to go down, other than because he was brought down!
    • 36' Navas cuts inside and looks to release Fabiano with a dinked pass through the middle, but Bougherra is there to halt the Brazilian in his tracks.
    • 35' Sevilla with their second corner of the game. Navas takes it...but David heads clear.
    • 30' Rangers' best spell of the amtch so far. They have a corner that Rothen will take. He whips it in...but Kanoute heads clear.
    • 28' Lee McCulloch pops up again just outside the area, goes for goal just outside the area...but makes a poor contact. Goal kick.
    • 25' Konko heads clear a cross into the area...and Lee McCulloch fires a dipping volley just over the bar!! That got the crowd to their feet!
    • 22' Davis with a ball over the top for Whittaker...whose cross is a disappointing one, though a difficult one to hit on the volley.
    • 20' Fine cross from Thomson into the area, but Palop claims and launches a Sevilla attack...that culminates in Luis Fabiano winning a corner with a hopeful effort from distance. And from that corner Didier Zokora finds the upper tier with a speculative volley.
    • 17' Konko takes a loose touch and concedes possession, but Kanoute is causing them real problems with his vision, passing and movement.
    • 14' Lovely ball from Kanouté for Navas, he is free to drill the ball into the centre for Kanouté...brilliant save from McGregor!!! That looked a certain goal!!!
    • 12' Lovely threaded ball through to Jesus Navas, but the little winger is ruled offside.
    • 11' Bougherra breaks forward and lays it across for Thomson, who backheels it to Mendes...whose off-balance shot is well wide. Good to see Bougherra coming forward again though after his superb goal in Stuttgart two weeks ago.
    • 9' Lovely passing move from Sevilla as Kanoute spreads it wide to Navas...though his cross is well cut out by Papac. An early warning sign for Rangers - Sevilla moved the ball beautifully there.
    • 7' Whittaker does well uinder pressure from Fabiano to turn defence into attack and Mendes wins Rangers a throw deep in the Sevilla half.
    • 5' Sevilla presing high up the pitch at the moment, Zokora full of running.
    • 3' Sevilla have won their last five games, and haven't conceded in their last four. Ominous statistics for Rangers.
    • 2' Gorgeous backheel from Jesus Navas. He will be a key figure tonight on the right wing.
    • 1' David Weir tonight becomes the fifth oldest outfield player ever in the Champions League at 39 years 142 days.
    • 1' Rangers get the first half underway.
    • 19:40 The Champions League hymn is ringing out round Ibrox Park, there's a fantastic atmosphere, and we're almost ready to go!
    • 19:15 Sevilla team to face Rangers: Palop, Fernando Navarro, Escude, Lolo, Squillaci, Adriano Correia, Jesus Navas, Zokora, Konko, Kanoute and Luis Fabiano. And the Andalusians' substitutes are: Javi Varas, Sergio Sanchez, Renato, Diego Capel, Dragutinovic, Romaric, Negredo
    • 19:15 Rangers team to face Sevilla: McGregor, Whittaker, Bougherra, Weir, Papac, Davis, McCulloch, Naismith, Mendes, Rothen, Thomson. On the bench tonight for the Scottish champions: Alexander, Smith, Miller, Fleck, Little, Novo and Boyd.
    • 19:15 Welcome to eurosport.yahoo.com's live text commentary of Rangers v Sevilla from Ibrox Park!
  • Summary

    • 88' Nacho Novo scores an absolute cracker to give the Rangers fans something to cheer!! He cuts in from the left, shits the ball onto his right foot, and drills a piledriver of a shot past Palop into the far corner! 1-4.

  1. You should have had a penalty SO WHAT?
Clearly the best side won on the night.
The sad thing from Rangers point of view is that they cannot possibly win the competition although they may well get out of the group the home game against Stuttgart at Ibrox is of vital importance.
Getting back to what I said about there not being an outstanding team Chelsea have stopped scoring goals
Real Madrid (or Manchester United) cannot defend and are dodgy when you get at them
Liverpool rely too much on Torres and the BIRDMAN OF ANFIELD ROAD (should have been locked up).
Seriously of the teams I have seen so far Lyon and Sevilla are the best but are not the champions in their respective countries.

  14. Rangers score one goal in four games. Wow!! real championship material that. Paddy McCourt has scored more goals in two games than the entire Hun team has in four. Maybe we should just send McCourt out on his own on Sunday to give the scum a chance.
