    • Rangers
    • Unirea Urziceni
    • 90+3 Final whistle! Rangers hammered and they deserved it to be honest. Terrible from the Scottish side, in all aspects of their play. Unirea don't mind though, Dan Petrescu is delighted!!
    • 90+2 Novo will take and he pings it low through wall, it takes a touch and Tudor spills it but claims the ball at the second attempt.
    • 90+1 Naismith wins a free-kick around 28 yards out which Rangers take quickly but are ordered to re-take...
    • 90' Naismith with a header from Miller's cross but well wide.
    • 88' UNIREA SUB: Varga off for Paduretu.
    • 86' So easily could have been five but a wonderful spinning volley from the excellent Bilasco is blocked by Weir.
    • 84' Varga gets clear on the right and hammers a drive that clips the top of the crossbar! Rangers are second-best all over the park.
    • 80' Frunza again gets down the left and skins Whittaker this time but his cross is straight into McGregor's chest.
    • 78' Frunza races down the left after a diagonal ball catches Rangers out, he could be in here but his low drive across McGregor is wide of the far post.
    • 75' Unirea with another dangerous break but Rangers snuff it out this time, McCulloch clearing.
    • 74' UNIREA SUB: Frunza on for Balan.
    • 73' Rangers have it in the box with men over, Thomson is in and he has a chance to shoot but it's blocked by two bodies flying in, it skips up to him again but again he's blocked and now DAVIS but his shot is blocked too!
    • 72' Unirea are in defensive mode now, backs against the wall...
    • 71' The long-ball approach suits Rangers and realistically cannot be played with a lone striker, as no-one was there to find the knock downs, as if there were any from Miller. They look more threatening with three up front but are super-shaky at the back.
    • 69' Free-kick to Rangers on the right, Naismith to take and he whips in a beauty AND MILLER WITH THE FLICK HEADER BUT INCHES WIDE!
    • 68' Another corner to Rangers then but cleared with relative ease. They're going to have to just plug and plug away to get a route back into this match.
    • 67' Promising for Rangers as Brandan hacks the ball behind for a corner after a long ball into the box.
    • 66' RANGERS SUB: Novo on for Rangers, as Walter Smith goes 4-3-3, long balls ahoy!
    • 65' Apostol will take this then... he backheels it to Brandan, who slips as he shoots but he sends it low into the bottom left! A freak goal and Rangers are 4-1 down!
    • 64' Another free-kick on the left to Unirea but Rangers clear. Not for long though - Rothen with a high foot gives the Romanian side another chance around 25 yards out now.
    • 63' Whittaker gets down the right and his low cross almost causes havoc in the box, it skips up for Miller on the left but that is a rubbish cross, skied out for a goal kick.
    • 62' Unirea break, they have men over, real danger of a fourth now but they over-cook it and Rangers have men back.
    • 61' Rothen puts the free-kick in the box but far too straight and easily put out for a throw on the right.
    • 60' Vilana is booked for a foul midway inside his half, on Naismith.
    • 59' Balan will swing this one in and it's a good far-post delivery AND DISASTER FOR LEE MCCULLOCH! AN OWN-GOAL FOR THE RANGERS DEFENDER! It just skimmed off his head and past the stricken McGregor and the visitors lead 3-1 and, on their showing this second half, deservedly so.
    • 58' Whittaker with a cynical foul bringing down Apostol on the left...
    • 56' Rangers are all at see as Apostol turns Whittaker inside out but his cross is blocked and eventually the hosts clear. Thomson gets forward but no foul as he tumbles to the floor.
    • 55' Free-kick to Unirea around 30 yards out but Varga blasts it well over.
    • - Mendes celebrates scoring the opener - he's not so happy now, indeed he isn't even on the pitch!
    • 53' A long one aimed to Lafferty on the right wing is cleverly flicked past the left-back by the Northern Ireland international but he lacks just that extra bit of pace needed to get on to balls like that.
    • 51' Unirea are all over Rangers now, who look lost without Mendes, who, along with Rothen, was the only player in this Rangers team who can actually play football.
    • 50' Rangers are all over the place as Bilasco's flick on drops to Balan, with the home defence watching on as he scuffs the finish wide.
    • 49' Bilasco takes the corner short to Apostol who drills it low into the box AND FERNANDES WITH A WONDERFUL BACKHEEL THAT SPINS OFF THE INSIDE OF THE LEFT-HAND POST AND INTO THE BOTTOM RIGHT FOR 2-1! The Romanians are ahead! What skill from the defender!
    • 48' Unirea work it to within 30 yards of the Rangers box, cut inside to Bilasco who cracks a super shot for the top right that McGregor does really well to tip over!
    • 47' Rangers think they have won a corner, but Naismith is penalised for a foul on a Unirea defender.
    • 46' Second half underway!
    • - HALF-TIME SUB: Mendes, struggling it seems after picking up that knock on the knee, comes off for Lafferty as Rangers go 4-4-2.
    • - No-one has been caught offside yet, thanks in part to pretty deep defending from both sides.
    • - Unirea had 56% possession in that half, although to be fair to Rangers they had seven shots to the visitors' two.
    • 45+1 Rothen clips Brandan, mini-retribution from the Frenchman, and the ref oddly blows for half-time even though play was held up for two minutes when Mendes was hurt, and the visitors made a substitution. Ref Eric Braamhaar needs a new watch..
    • 45' There will be at least three minutes of added time at the end of this half.
    • 44' The Romanians slow it down as we approach half-time, as the rough-and-tumble when the ball flies about suits Rangers.
    • 43' Naismith on he left, this is good pressure by Rangers but he cuts it back to Mendes for a long-shot the Romanians are wise to and fly out to block. Look for someone else, man!
    • 42' Miller races down the left but he'd have to be Usain Bolt to get that one as it skips away for a goal kick.
    • 41' Rangers are in on the right but Rothen gets the cross all wrong and Unirea clear.
    • 40' Balan on the left for the visitors, smart ball inside for Bilasco but Rangers intercept and clear. Papac on the left clips it forward, nice backheel from Miller but Thomson can't get the shot away.
    • 39' Mendes takes this from the left using his right but Fernandes heads clear.
    • 38' A bit of nonsense as Davis readies to take this... SAVED BY TUDOR! The stand-in keeper gets down low to the left and easily parries a poor penalty from Davis. Corner.
    • 37' Rothen to swing this in from the right, with his left.... A great deliver and Weir arrives to head it down and that hits Fernandes on the arm! Penalty Rangers!
    • 36' This has been a decent spell for Rangers as Brandan clatters into Rothen and gets a yellow for cumulative offences.
    • 35' Rothen loses the ball on the right but Rangers win it back, Miller free on the left, he cuts inside and can shoot but instead gives it to Mendes whose attempt is blocked. It seems at times that Rangers are afraid to try anything, looking for the Portuguese man every time.
    • 34' Papac on the left plays it long into the channel for Miller to chase but it rolls out for a goal kick.
    • 32' Mendes gives away a free-kick just inside the Rangers half, it's taken quickly and Brandan is released down the left, he's clear of Whittaker and Unirea could be in AND HE DRILLS IT LOW FOR BILASCO AT THE FAR POST WITH A SIMPLE TAP-IN FOR 1-1! Rangers went to sleep and they paid the price!
    • 30' Papac races down the left and plays an excellent low ball in for Naismith but just behind him as it flies across the six-yard box.
    • 29' Rangers counter from that free-kick, Miller is in on the edge of the box but Unirea get bodies back as he steadies himself for a shot, he has no support and is outnumbered, where are the Rangers players? Finally Naismith and Rothen get forward and Mendes has a dig from range but the Romanians are able to clear.
    • 28' Thomson slides in on Apostol with a full-blooded challenge which would have earned him a yellow had he not got the ball. Some refs would have carded him anyway.
    • 27' Thomson has a pop from distance that takes a huge deflection and spins away for a corner. Mendes takes it deep and the keeper has dropped it but the whistle goes, Miller fouled him.
    • 26' Trouble here as Galamaz chops down Rothen pretty late but the ref just has a final word, no card.
    • 24' Papac gets the ball left-centre, cuts inside a bit more and unleashes a long-range shot but it goes well wide and a bit over.
    • 23' A very promising Rangers counter breaks down when, after played in on the edge of the box, Miller plays a dreadful pass to no-one in particular.
    • 22' Rangers attack down the right, Rothen puts in a teasing ball but Naismith's far-post header back to Miller sees the Scotland striker run into the brick wall that is Galamaz.
    • 21' That goal has been credited to Vilana, which is odd as Mendes's shot - while it probably would have been saved - was going on target.
    • 20' Unirea have a corner on the left which Bilasco swings in and McGregor flaps at but Rangers clear! Only half away though as Unirea have it back, it drops to Balan in the box but he mis-hits it and the chance is gone.
    • 19' UNIREA SUB: Nicu comes off, one assumes a tactical decision as he seems fine. Onofras on in his place.
    • 18' A somewhat scrappy period of play culminates in Unirea getting a free-kick after Rothen slid in on Nicu.
    • 16' Weir heads clear and Rangers could break but their natural conservatism takes over and they go backwards before looking long. Throw on the left, just inside the Romanians' half. Maftei puts the second ball out for a throw but Papac and Davis conspire to give it away.
    • 15' Varga with an impudent nutmeg on Papac but McCulloch flings himself into a full-blooded challenge to win the ball and let Varga know that there'll be no taking the Michael tonight.
    • 14' Rangers come forward with Papac on the left but he fouls Vilana and Unirea have a free-kick.
    • 13' Classic Rangers - they lead but have only had 35% of possession.
    • 12' Mendes curls the free-kick in with his right and it flies flat over the heads of a line of players for Miller to power the header towards goal but just over!
    • 11' Mendes is back on the pitch and wins a free-kick on the left. Amazing how quickly these lads recover.
    • 10' A promising break by Unirea grinds to a halt with the flag up for offside.
    • 9' Mendes limps off for more treatment, he'll probably be subbed but at least he is walking.
    • 8' The medics are on, Mendes is almost in tears, this looks like his match could be over. Walter Smith is on the intercom getting details from the bench.
    • 7' Mendes is down in the centre circle after twisting awkwardly as he challenged Vilana. Eventually play is stopped as this seems to be serious.
    • 6' The free-kick is wasted, Nicu forced right back into his own half by the harassment of Naismith.
    • 5' Decent spell of possession for the visitors as Brandan wins a free-kick on the left.
    • 4' Bilasco gets down the left and plays it crossfield, Rangers clear but Davis gives away a free-kick centre left. Bilasco will take but he sends it into the arms of the keeper McGregor.
    • 3' Unirea have a free-kick on the left which is taken quickly and Rangers now how have a throw which Whittaker will take.
    • 2' Rothen will take this one too... he swings it to the edge of the box where Mendes takes a touch, it's blocked and the deflection loops it up in the air BUT TUDOR JUST STANDS WATCHING AS IT DROPS OVER HIS HEAD INTO THE NET! Surely he could have made that, there was plenty of time, but Pedro Mendes doesn't care, 1-0 to Rangers.
    • 1' Naismith wins a free-kick around 30 yards out which Rothen swings into the box, nodded away by Fernandes for a corner on the right.
    • 1' The match is underway, with Rangers in blue and the Romanians in white kicking off and sending it long to McGregor.
    • - The Romanians, meanwhile, have 21-year-old keeper Giedrius Arlauskis on the bench as he nurses an injury, with veteran back-up Dan Tudor in goal instead.
    • - The injury to Bougherra means Lee McCulloch, a striker back in the day, plays centre-half alongside Davie Weir, with Sasa Papac playing left-back and Steven Whittaker on the right. The decision to drop Kris Boyd and Kyle Lafferty following the 2-1 win over St Johnstone means that, along with John Fleck and Nacho Novo, Rangers have four strikers on the bench.
    • - So Rangers have gone for an all-out attacking formation - not. One up front, Kenny Miller, with five aross midfield although Steve Naismith is an attacking player to be fair.
    • - Unirea Urziceni team: Tudor, Galamaz, Maftei, Bruno Fernandes, Nicu, Gomes, Apostol, Brandan, Balan, Bilasco, Varga; Subs: Arlauskis, Mehmedovic, Paduretu, Onofras, Semedo, Bordeanu, Frunza
    • - Rangers team: McGregor, Whittaker, McCulloch, Weir, Papac, Naismith, Mendes, Davis, Thomson, Rothen, Miller; Subs: Alexander, Boyd, Novo, Beasley, Smith, Lafferty, Fleck
    • - Rangers currently lie bottom in Group G, having lost heavily at home to Sevilla and done very well to draw in Stuttgart. The Spaniards are a shoo-in for the group and it's all about catching Stuttgart for second. Click here for Group G details!
    • - Davis also admitted that he knows little about the Romanian side - but that it does not make their task any easier. MORE HERE!
    • - Rangers' Northern Ireland midfielder Steve Davies believes they must take at least four points from their Champions League double-header with Unirea Urziceni to have any hope of progressing to the knockout stages of the competition. MORE HERE!
    • - Unirea recorded their first European goal in the 1-1 draw with Stuttgart in their last match. They are still seeking their first victory and their first away goal.
    • - These teams have never played each other before, so the pre-match stats are all about their European record. Rangers, worryingly, have failed to score in six of their last eight home European games in which they have won only once.
    • - Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra is out of tonight's clash after damaging his knee in training - he'd only just got back after being delayed while away with Algeria. More on that here!

  1. Why did no journalists except "Chck who flung dung" question or even speak to "the Cardigan" at the post match
press conference? Had they all lost their tongues? Or is it because they are Huns with typewriters in the scottish media.

Wonder if tony mowbray will get such an easy time from them if things dont go celtics way on Thursday night!!
    Hail Hail Encenderse el aros

From Evan, on Wed 21 Oct 5:56PM
  2. why dont Celtic and rangers shut up about what they could do if they had a level playing field and the same money as the top english clubs, they dont play in a level playing field in their own league and still they cant beat St Mirren or Inverness for god's sake, what makes them think they are so special? and before anyone points out Inverness are now in the first division, i know, and that just adds more weight to my point.

From inverkenny, on Wed 21 Oct 5:37PM
  3. Ha Ha best night of the year so far!!! Great to see a team like this humped and anybody who has any connection with them too! Why should a fellow Scot say such damning things? easy , this club is the bloodsucking vehicle reliant on the "loyal" among them to provide the finance to keep them going. This zero tolerance of sectarianism is just a publicity stunt because if it wasnt for bigotry the coffers would be even emptier than they are now. by the way I dont support any particular team but anyone who beats the old firm are fine by me

  5. "This has too be the Lowest of the Low, some unknown and unpronounceable Team, from a Third party League, hammers one of Scotland's Biggest Clubs."

Third party league? What does that even mean? Romania's miles ahead of Scotland in league coefficient and heading for 3 spots in the Champions League while Scotland is on its way to losing one. The sheer difference between Rangers+Celtic and the rest of the league has distorted reality for you lot. The SPL is pure @#$%.

and then obviously Rangers 1-4 Unirea Urziceni

That tells me that Rangers r the worse than the 20th best team in scotland:))=))

  17. Discount or under estimate any team at your peril.
Before the first game against Stuttgart away Rangers supporters seemed to think Seville would win the group and were resigned to a straight fight with the Germans to finish second and qualify for the next round.
Rangers are doing it the hard way simply not good enough at this level.
Only two years ago they reached the UEFA Cup Final in Manchester.

Arsenal and Chelsea are miles better than Rangers and Celtics, Celtic are in the Europa and are dead last in their group, You say Arsenal cheated, ..i'm glad they did, cause Celtic and Rangers have no business being in the CL. Period! Red Bull NY, Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy or Columbus Crew will do numbers on your weak league, FACT!
