    • 64' Bosingwa shields the ball well from Lars Bender before eventually winning the foul.
    • 63' Great run from Sturridge down the right channel. He gets into the box and hits a low shot aimed for underneath Leno but the keeper saves! Sturridge deserves a goal for his performance this evening.
    • 62' Once more Chelsea give the ball away in a dangerous area, but on this occasion Terry and several other blue shirts swarm in to recover.
    • 61' Castro lifts the ball into the box and Kiessling gets the wrong side of Terry but his header is right at Cech!
    • 58' Cech denies Ballack twice in the space of a minute! First the Czech keeper tips his former team-mate's overhead kick from the edge of the box over the bar, and from the resulting corner he parries the German's header!
    • 57' Leverkusen substitution: Andre Schurrle replaces Schwaab.
    • 56' Great defensive cover from Meireles to make a timely interception on Ballack inside the Chelsea box.
    • 55' Ivanovic is the first Chelsea player to go into the referee's book for a foul on Sidney Sam.
    • 54' Lampard flicks a lovely weighted pass through. Drogba is offside, Sturridge is not, but it's Drogba who touches it first and the flag goes up.
    • 53' Ivanovic has a rare few moments to gwather his thoughts as he heads for goal and unleashes a strike from range, but it's an easy one for Leno.
    • 52' At the third time of asking, Cech has the ball in his arms and Chelsea have possession.
    • 51' Leverkusen's corner is turned behind for another at the near post by Meireles. The second is caught by Cech at the second attempt but he steps over the byline for a third.
    • 49' Drogba marks his first European appearance of the season with his 29th European goal.
    • 48' GOAL!! BAYER LEVERKUSEN 0-1 CHELSEA!! Great ball into the box from Sturridge deep on the right. Drogba has his back to goal, shields it from two defenders as he turns and fires a low finish inside the far post!
    • 47' No changes from either manager at the break, by the way.
    • 46' The second half is underway!
    • 45+2' Toprak takes a blow to the face, and he will have the whole of half-time to get it looked at because the referee has blown his whistle. A tight first half draws to a close.
    • 45+1' Kiessling's low cross is put behind for a corner. this will be the last action of the half...
    • 45' Ballack protests an incorrect decision over a throw that should have gone his way, but gets a booking for his reaction to the decision.
    • 44' Lampard squirms as he tries to get a shot away on the edge of the box. In the end he tees up Sturridge, whose effort tamely floats to Leno.
    • 43' Sturridge and Drogba combine well and the Ivorian holds the ball up before feeding Mata... The Spaniard has to dig the shot out from under him and Leno saves!
    • 42' It's now Valencia 4-0 Genk, by the way.
    • 41' Mata swings in a good delivery but Leno is decisive in coming off his line and palms the ball away two-handed.
    • 40' Sturridge again as he knocks the ball across the backtracking Kadlec and it strikes the Czech's hand. it probably is a fair handball, but the booking seems a little harsh. Still, free-kick to Chelsea...
    • 39' That's the sort of football that Villas-Boas is trying to get his team to play: played out from the back, right from Cech.
    • 38' Chelsea sweep forward and Sturridge plays Dorgba in behind the Leverkusen defence. Drogba beats Leno to the ball but the keeper sends him wide and the eventual shot from a tight angle is over the bar!
    • 36' Another rampaging run from Bosingwa and Kiessling clips him from behind. The Leverkusen forward goes to the linesman to appeal the decision, and he obviously said something the officials didn't like because he is booked for dissent.
    • 35' Ballack gets in a cross around Ivanovic, but the final ball is disappointing.
    • 33' Castro's corner swings out to the near post and Ballack's looping header rebounds off the crossbar! Manuel Friedrich's boot is dangerously high as he goes for the loose ball and Chelsea are relieved to hear the whistle blow for a free-kick in their favour.
    • 32' Schwaab fires in a low, awkward ball into the Chelsea box that Terry does well to hook away. Leverkusen again win the second ball and earn another corner.
    • 30' Omar Toprak fouls Sturridge. The turkish defender has to be careful - he is a booking away from a suspension. For Chelsea, Luiz is already on two yellow cards too.
    • 29' Not the best corner from Castro and it's headed clear. Leverkusen retain the ball and come again, but this time Mata emerges from the Chelsea box with the ball.
    • 28' Kadlec's first touch on the left wing is poor and it allows Branislav Ivanovic to make the tackle at the expense of a corner.
    • 26' Luiz's big hair takes most of the sting out of Ballack's cross and sends the ball safely rolling to Petr Cech.
    • 25' Mata taps it across to Lamaprd, whose shot from 35 yards or more swings high and wide. Told you it was too far out for a shot.
    • 24' Rolfes depserately brings down Ramires after a good pass to the Brazilian from Meireles. It's too far out for Lampard to take on the shot...
    • 22' Nice play from Simon Rolfes as he brings the ball up through the middle, but the rest of his team-mates do not share his attacking impetu on this occasion and the chance is lost.
    • 21' Bayer Leverkusen have won just two of their 16 previous meetings against English sides in European competitions, both at home (4-2 vs Liverpool in the 2001/02 CL and 3-2 vs Blackburn in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup).
    • 20' Lovely play from Chelsea. Luiz gambols forward and feeds Sturridge. The striker turns early and nips through three men before slipping in a through ball that's just too long for Drogba.
    • 19' Ballack prods a weighted pass into Kiessling inside the box, but the forward just can't reach it with an outstretched boot.
    • 18' The stretcher is out, but Luiz is being helped to his feet. Alex is warming up, but it looks like Luiz will continue.
    • 17' Kiessling catches Luiz late in the air and the Chelsea defender looks to have taken areal knock. He's still down on the ground, receiving treatment.
    • 16' Valencia are now 2-0 up! Roberto Soldado gets the second for Los Che.
    • 15' Leverkusen have Chelsea pegged back here. Full-back Daniel Schwaab floats in a cross that Sturridge heads away. Leverkusen seeing more of the ball now.
    • 14' Villas-Boas is already prowling around the technical area, squatting and crouching nervously as he watches his players.
    • 13' There has been a goal at the Mestalla! Jonas has put Valencia 1-0 up. Valencia v Genk
    • 12' Chelsea lose possession in midfield and Gonzalo Castro slips a good through ball into Kiessling's run, but it's just too far ahead of the forward. That is where Leverkusen will try to hurt Chelsea.
    • 11' Kiessling and Terry collide again, but this time the referee tells the forward to get to his feet.
    • 10' A rather low-key opening 10 minutes to this game. Both sides understand how tight this group remains despite this being the penultimate rond of games.
    • 9' Chelsea have won only two of their last seven Champions League games, losing two.
    • 8' Leverkusen have won five of their last seven home games in European competitions, losing one.
    • 7' Drogba has a speculative effort from outside the box, but it does not trouble Bernd Leno.
    • 6' Drogba features in his first CL match this season. Torres is on the bench, the first time he does not start this season.
    • 5 Great run down the left flank from Jose Bosingwa - deputising for the injured Ashley Cole - but he feels to go after the return pass after playing the give-and-go with Frank Lampard.
    • 4' John Terry catches Kiessling with his arm as the pair jump for a header. Referee Viktor Kassai has words with the Chelsea captain.
    • 3' Left-back Michal Kadlec puts in a cross, but it's far too high and out for a goal kick. Kadlec was the Czech Republic's top scorer in Euro 2012 qualifying with four goals, three from the penalty spot.
    • 2' Chelsea play keep-ball for the first minute but then a poor David Luiz pass out of defence almost gifts the ball to Kiessling! Raul Meireles wins it back for Chelsea.
    • 1' Leverkusen kick off and we're underway! Let's see how that now-notorious high back line of Chelsea's fares this evening.
    • 19:42 The teams are walking out on to the pitch now. We'll be underway shortly. You can share your thoughts on the match either by posting in the comments section below or by getting in touch with me via Twitter: @tony_mabert
    • 19:40 Chelsea are not having the best time of it at the moment. Before last Saturday's home defeat to Liverpool they were held to a 1-1 draw at Genk and also lost that barmy game against Arsenal 5-3 at the Bridge. That results came not long after another derby defeat, at QPR. Chelsea results and fixtures
    • 19:35 Leverkusen have both their top scorers starting this evening. Sindey Sam and Stefan Kiessling have both scored three times in the Bundesliga and once in Europe. They are the joint-lowest scorers in the top eight of the German league with 17 goals in 13 games. Bundesliga table
    • 19:30 The figures certainly back up Andre Villas-Boas's decision to play Sturridge ahead of Torres. This season the English forward has scored six goals in a dozen appearances for his club, one more than Torres has managed in 31 appearances since joining from Liverpool on deadline day back in January.
    • 19:25 When these two sides met on Matchday One at Stamford Bridge, David Luiz and Juan Mata scored to see Chelsea win 2-0 in a game which saw the Blues have 12 shots on target: no other sides have managed more in a single CL match this season. Match report: Chelsea 2-0 Leverkusen
    • 19:20 Chelsea can secure their place in the last 16 with a win in Germant this evening. Even a draw would be enough if the unlikely happened and Valencia were defeated at home to Genk. Leverkusen are looking to complete a 100 per cent home record in the group, having won their other two games at the BayArena. A win for the Germans and for Valencia would set up a thrilling final round of games in a fortnight's time. Group F table
    • 19:15 Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack against starts against his former club for Leverkusen, who are without first-choice keeper Rene Adler and Switzerland international Tranquillo Barnetta due to long-term injuries. Renato Augusto, Karim Bellarabi and Hanno Balitsch are all out, while midfield starlet Andre Schurrle is only on the bench.
    • 19:10 Daniel Sturridge comes into the Chelsea starting line-up at the expense of Florent Malouda after the England forward scored as a half-time substitute in Sunday's defeat to Liverpool. Didier Drogba retains his place spearheading the attack, meaning that Fernando Torres is once again on the bench. Raul Meireles replaces Jon Obi Mikel in midfield. Chelsea team page

Subs: Giefer, Reinartz, Oczipka, Schürrle, Derdiyok, Jorgensen /// Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Bosingwa, Terry, Ramires, Lampard, Meireles, Mata, Drogba, Sturridge.
