Chelsea stunned Bayern Munich to win the Champions League for the first time after a penalty shoot-out in the Allianz Arena. More
- Right, I'm signing out now to work up the match report for your pleasure - you can catch me on Tweet-land later as I join my Chelsea-supporting friends for a drink. Tom Adams (@tomEurosport) had no reception from his seat but he's in Munich and will be out and about later, so follow him too. Thank you and goodnight! FOLLOW ON TWITTER!
- BAYERN 3-4 CHELSEA Drogba to win it for Chelsea! Will he win the Champions League with his last kick in a Chelsea shirt? YES! HE'S DONE IT! CHELSEA HAVE WON THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!!!
- BAYERN 3-3 CHELSEA Schweinsteiger now for Bayern - and he's missed it! Off the post!
- BAYERN 3-3 CHELSEA Ashley Cole to take this one - super kick, right of goal, Neuer guessed right but no chance.
- BAYERN 3-2 CHELSEA Olic, who leaves Bayern this summer, with his last kick in their shirt - WHAT A SAVE BY CECH! It was a good penalty but he guessed right and palmed clear!
- BAYERN 3-2 CHELSEA Lampard scored his penalty in Moscow as Chelsea crashed out - and he bangs this one into the roof of the net.
- BAYERN 3-1 CHELSEA Neuer is to take this one, Joe Hart style - and low past Cech into the bottom left but only just!
- BAYERN 2-1 CHELSEA Luiz's turn, the Brazilian defender with a long run-up... top right, boom.
- BAYERN 2-0 CHELSEA Gomez for Bayern now - bottom right, no problem.
- BAYERN 1-0 CHELSEA The jeers are deafening for Mata as he steps up. SAVED BY NEUER! Weak and straight at him!
- BAYERN 1-0 CHELSEA Lahm to open things from the spot here - Casillas saved his pen in the semi... IN! But just - Cech got a hand to it! Lucky Lahm!
- Well what a night, drama-wise. The second time Chelsea have been taken to a penalty shoot-out in the Champions League final. They lost the last one - but John Terry's not there to miss his kick. Will it be tears of agony or joy for the Blues? FOLLOW ON TWITTER!
120+1 And that, my friends, is that - penalties! Your poor hearts...
120' Torres with a neat piece of skill to beat one man, and then he fouls Contento needlessly. Harsh booking though. Ah, backchat.
118' Malouda trips Van Buyten, who goes down in agony. Surprised he wasn't booked for that little swing. The ref - notoriously strict - has been medium-lenient tonight.
112' Lahm on the right, superb run again and cross and it bounces up off Gomez and could go in but Luiz chests it out for a corner.
110' @joeledf kindly pointed out that the last time a Champions League finalist played at home was Roma - who lost. Yikes! FOLLOW ON TWITTER!
108' Lahm on a surging run, he lofts a hanging ball back post that Chelsea watch sail to the unmarked Olic who must score but his first-time volleyed finish spins wide of the far post! Cech just watches helpless and another chance goes begging! What was Bosingwa doing there?
106' The second half of extra time is underway.
105+2 Kroos to take. Van Buyten will be the target, no he isn't, a silly attempt to set up the volley and Drogba clears, time to change ends!
96' Luiz takes out Gomez as he got in down the right - Bayern are furious but I don't see a card. Ribery is off, Olic on in his place.
95' Robben with the penalty... AND CECH SAVES IT! Robben hit it low but a touch central, Cech went for the corner and his massive frame kept it out, the keeper holding on to the rebound.
93' Ribery on the ball now, Kroos cuts inside to shoot but blocked. Still with Bayern though and Drogba trips Ribery! Penalty Bayern!
91' Extra time is underway!
- Well I never. What say? I'm speechless. Will Bayern pay the price for that defensive change? Tweet away. FOLLOW ON TWITTER!
90+4 Drogba places it with what could be his last kick in a Chelsea shirt - if he gets it right. The ref moves the wall... Drogba takes two strides back and blasts it to Hamburg. Extra time.
89' GOAL CHELSEA! DROGBAAAAA! Mata's near-post corner is met by a flying, turning, power header by the Drog, into the top right. What a header, what a leap - what a man!
87' BAYERN SUB: Van Buyten replaces Mueller, I assume to play in defence with Tymoschuk moving a touch higher.
86' Luiz with a rash challenge is booked.
84' CHELSEA SUB: Torres on for Kalou. A somewhat partisan PA gets the crowd roaring Mueller's name.
83' GOAL BAYERN! THOMAS MUELLER! Somehow his downward header, which bounces into the ground at pace, ricochets off the underside of the bar and in! Cole was marking Gomez and Mueller snuck in! High ball from Schweinsteiger.
82' Mueller with a header as a fine cross from Contento found him in the box but Cole was in his way and in the end it's straight at Cech!
81' Mata with a poor pass when Chelsea were breaking and had men over - and now Cole rushes back to cover and clobbers Mueller, a booking.
79' Big miss by Mueller! Shambolic defending from Chelsea allowed the ball to bounce to his feet from 10 yards but he drags it wide! Luiz at fault there.
76' Malouda gives it away and then Lampard gets left for dead by Ribery but Cole again flies in from nowhere to block! The cross almost spins in over Cech but he tips it over! Corner.
73' CHELSEA SUB: Bertrand has been far better in the second half but Chelsea need some attacking impetus and he is indeed replaced by Malouda.
73' Looks like Malouda is coming on. But Drobga skins Tymoschuk easily - see! - and he's in acres of space and tries to pick Mata out but Contento intercepts! Corner.
72' Mata sees Bosingwa wide right, brilliant cross from the full-back and KALOU WITH THE HEADER but Boateng gets goal-side of him and Neuer can claim the loose ball!
70' Robben plays it low to the edge of the box AND KROOS SHOOTS but blocked by Cole! That was going in!
67' A flap from Cech at the corner and Gomez tries a bicycle kick but Luiz blocks! Now Lahm races in, Drogba easing him away to clear - Bayern's fans want a penalty but they're in dreamland if they think that's an option.
60' Lampard tries to play his way out of trouble, poor choice as Gomez finds ROBBEN but blocked, Cole with a marvellous spot and brave flying stop!
54' Drogba with a first-time effort from the right wing but straight at a defender. It had been a promising break, speaking of which here come Bayern! Robben shoots from the edge of the box, Cole can only divert it to Ribery who scores! But no! He was offside when the shot was taken, so Cole's touch was irrelevant. Chelsea escape. Cole played him offside, saving his own skin.
47' A long ball catches Luiz out and Robben is in! Robben is clean through wide right but Cole appears from nowhere to slide in!
46' The second half is underway!
- Phew. Quite a lot to say about that half: Bayern's possession evokes memories of the Chelsea-Barca epics, while Gomez has been off-radar. Ryan Bertrand, meanwhile, has done little to justify his inclusion, limited going forward and struggling to handle Robben. What do you think? FOLLOW ON TWITTER!
45+1 Half time and it's goalless - Bayern have had more possession but Chelsea have looked likely later in the half. Gomez, meanwhile, has missed a few good chances, which he tends to do under pressure. Don't bet against him though - he also has a knack of shinning in late winners.
42' Cole to Mata, surging run from him but the ball inside for Drogba is too close to the defence who clear. Chelsea come again - this is much better from them - as Kalou and Bosingwa trade passes, but Boateng clears. Bayern break now as Robben feeds Mueller, he flicks it to GOMEZ WHO SKINS CAHILL WITH A DUMMY AND SURELY but he blasts it miles over!
40' Comedy of errors for Bayern! A double shank as Ribery completely mis-hits his shot, which lands perfectly for a Gomez poach but the striker inexplicably takes a touch - which is desperately heavy - and Chelsea scramble it behind.
38' An excellent break by Chelsea as Mata finds Drogba, who returns it to the Spaniard with a backheel, a fine ball out wide smashed near post by Kalou but saved by Neuer! Contento looked shaky when confronted with a full-flighted Kalou. See? You must attack Bayern.
36' JUST WIDE BY MUELLER! Fantastic flying volley after a brilliant cross from Contento, who was let in by Bosingwa after Ribery's feint and pass. Obviously. The shin did for Mueller.
21' Robben has switched flanks, as we predicted, and he cuts inside, beats one man, the another and he drills in a low shot that Cech kicks clear with his boot and it's off the post! Bayern hit the woodwork!! Eventually it's put behind for a corner. That was a great save from Cech as he had bodies in his way - it went through Cahill's diving block. Bosingwa again all over the shop there.
19' The ball is swung into Robben who half-volleys but Bertrand blocks and it's another corner. This one is flapped at a bit by Cech but Chelsea clear. Now Gomez with a half-chance but he gets his turn all wrong, Lampard coolly plays it clear but a wild swing by Bosingwa and Kroos could be in but in the end Chelsea survive! What was Bosingwa doing?
5' Chelsea fail to clear their lines from the corner, it's played in to Schweinsteiger who lays it off for KROOS but his savage low drive spins wide!
5' Mueller slips it to Schweinsteiger on the edge of the D, and it opens up for him but Cahill dives in to block the shot! It flies over for a corner.
3' Handball by Schweinsteiger and the ref - who likes a card - books him.
1' The first half of the 2011-12 Champions League final is underway!
19:30 All right boys and girls (and in betweeners), this is your last chance to Tweet predictions before I immerse myself in live commentary. @ROMPED33: "Bertrand could be an advantage, bayern would have very little homework on him, could spark the blues"; @JooManGroup: "mueller schweini and co ofteb prodice top performances together he'd be my choice if i were heyneckes too"; @OsamaBinHaroon: "All lingering hopes of a @chelseafc victory vanquished with the shocking line up of the Blues tonight." 17:20 TEAM NEWS: We're getting news on the grapevine that Ryan Bertrand - a local lad who has only played 14 matches for Chelsea - will start in midfield due to an injury to Florent Malouda. He is a left-back but will be asked to shackle Arjen Robben and - when they trade flanks - Franck Ribery. Not confirmed, but it's looking likely.
17:15 SUSPENSIONS are all the rage in Munich, with seven players across both sides missing out. For Bayern, full-back David Alaba, defender Holger Badstuber and defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo are all out; Chelsea miss skipper and defender John Terry, midfielders Ramires and Raul Meireles, and another defender in Branislav Ivanovic.
17:10 Given the scale of this game you have not one but TWO people you can contact on Twitter - we have Tom Adams (@TomEurosport) in the stands alongside our German team, and Reda Maher (that's me, @Reda_Eurosport) as your match commentator. couple months late, jst wanna say it again, lol...no spurs in CL...FYI dat means chelsea finished 4th, sorry 3rd cuz we aint playin no qualifying series and stuff.
hjttkgteghvjsgg chelsea will win
I take that when you come to a game of football play you should come up with a strategy/system that will make you win. Being defensive by chelsea showed determination. What i can tell you is that the Germans played for 90minutes astheir plan, after that they did not have torch to light the tunnel. chelsea was to close them until the last minutes and thats what happened, thanx to all chelsea players. you really worked as a team and all the best for the next season
Yes,some brainless commenters here don't even know nor understand the true beauty of football, when a football team like {Arsenal} plays offensively and defends not they will criticize them for poor or inexperience defending and persuade the management to buy quality defender{s} and as such defensive game is needed isn't it? And a great football team like Chelsea FC who doesn't need extra defensive provision are being criticised for their defensive tactics ? What a funny complaint by the socalled football experts and prelegends like Steve McManaman,Rummenigge and co. Chelsea deservedly won CL crown than any other team involved and winning against all odds, is to mute their critics as destiny was never meant to be denied of them this time around.Champion!Champion!!Champion!!! CHELSEA FC more to come.
ROBERTO DI MATTEO led CHELSEA from decline to GLORY. Chelsea was seriously over-coached !! ROBERTO DI MATTEO allowed his players to play with PRIDE, and they played up to their potencial. ROBERTO DI MATTEO is luckiest coach in the World !!!
congrats chelsea fc...i'mso proud of u guys. eventhough i'm m.u hard die fans...but your team play very weLL. your team deserve it =D see u aLL next seasoNs. thanks for bringing back champion league trophy back to eNgland =D thnks RDM, petr cech, drgba and teaM =D
What a fantastic night with the game only won on the final kick of the ball. And the great celebrations after well done to chelsea and di matteo and all the staff and fans from a neautral sports fan.
chelsea are the best guys now spurs are not going to the Europa league
chelsea are the best guys
England should have no fear playing the Germans in Euro 12. Bring it on, we've got Ashley Cole.
C'ech should have got an 8 and Bertrand a 7.
well done cfc great win from a liverpool fan
Why would Chelsea let Drogba go, he is the beast! He scores loads of goals but no the owner wont keep him because he wants to keep his money, oh dear
For me the best player is drogba for everythings the guys has done, as you saw yesterday drogna is tha man of the match, this my opinion on terms of quality and the best player , iwill be happy if they was chosen as the best player for 2012.
congratulations chelsea but what happened to Bayern Munich last night as they could of scored 5 even 7 goals and missed a penalty plus had that many chances even wigan could of beat chelsea. poor game from both sides and the chelsea manager deserves the job as if not then the owner is a nutter and wish RDM all the best
You need teams to play in different styles, sure the Chelsea way is not as exciting as many others but the end justifies the means.
the best team in the world is chelsea
YES!!!! NO SPURS!!!!!!!! IN CL!!!!!!!!!!!!
why everyone rate Bertrand with bad grades, he kept Lahm at bay...Lahm started creating chances only when Ryan was replaced and Malouda came on...I tought he had a pretty good game, and don't forget it his FIRST CL game, and his 15th for the club....GREAT JOB RYAN!!!
Sadoldgit, all u can say is buying buying buying , so what?!?! its part of the game i hope they keep buying, u idiotttt
